Can people please stop beginning posts about very specific disability experiences with “abled people can’t imagine”.

Literally all my personal thoughts about the category of abled people aside, many disabled people also can’t, because they’re disabled differently.

I post about the entire thing of calling people abled already and even put it in my header, talking about it specifically now because I began thinking about a certain experience of my own as in how different it is from what many “can” imagine, and remembered those posts.

Sometimes they are about rather broad things, but still not universal, and sometimes they are literally extremely specific.

"Common sense" is not actually a thing.

If something is common sense to you, it is actually simply just because at some point in your life, perhaps a very long time ago, it was made explicit enough for you, and you were able to internalize it long term.

Even mainstreamly, things that are common sense to some are not to others. Then we have differing backgrounds, and then we have disability, about which this post was originally first of all intended.

"Common sense" is literally very close to "basic DNI". Or, "this food contains allergens. You know, the basic ones."

Yes I hate the cure narrative and was actively harmed by it, literally making me more disabled in the attempts to make me less disabled. Yes I constantly wish I wasn’t disabled. We exist. This is a serious post. I don’t want to be “fixed” because I do not fit the norm or because other people feel bad for me. I want to live without my body making me suffer. I am sick of people conflating the two and saying the latter can only be because of the pressure of the former.

My disability pride is not “actually it’s awesome to be disabled”. If it’s awesome for you, I’m glad, but don’t extend that to every single one being. My disability pride is being loudly miserable when everyone wants me to pretend like I’m not. My disability pride is “my pain is my fucking issue, stop acting like it’s yours and like my autonomy should be replaced by your authority”. It is not all of it, too, but a core part.

I have no wish to position my feelings as universal, including as universal for people whose disabilities cause them inherent suffering. But too many people position their feelings, that exclude mine, as universal.

Less “some people need everything to be explicitly explained” and more “some people can understand things without an explicit explanation”. Why the fuck even is the latter default.
