do you think it would have been preferable for 'non-binary' to be called something from an in game language? like maybe taash could have used a rivaini word, or an elf/dwarf rook could have used a name from their own language? i personally don't hate non-binary being used but feel like in addition, expanding upon in game languages would have been cool too.

I personally see no problem with it either. Especially because if you don't spell it out that plainly, there's gonna be people arguing about how it's "not really enby" or whatever.

Fictional worlds can have all sorts of things not directly derived from either what is expected to be their inspiration or within themselves, but specifically the moment it has anything to do with suppressed groups, people began to get pissed.

Thedas has nonbinarity, has it by that name, and if someone doesn't welcome that, they should deal with it.

Of course, it is good if it also has different manifestations and names for similar concepts, just like in real modern world as well; and just like in real modern world, they can use "nonbinary" in more than one place.

And very yes to the "if it was a different term people would be arguing that it isn't really enby"

If Dragon Age can whitewash characters and claim those are the same characters, it could de-whitewash them (also it should be doing de-whitewashing and not be doing whitewashing in any case).

They gave us that white redhead dude and claimed it's the same Alistair we met in Origins, brown-skinned and brown-haired. They could have given Solas his concept art appearance and act like he's always looked like that. Instead they, like, perfectly recreated his Inquisition appearance, which isn't even something they've ever done before (even to characters who originated as white; and especially to characters of color).

They could have given Isabela her Origins appearance and natural Black hair. Instead, they made her look completely as if she could be nonblack, and gave her that fucking horrid orientalist outfit.

When I talk about the concept of Raistlin using a powerchair, I do not mean a headcanon/AU of him having disabilities/severity that he doesn't have in canon.

He canonically struggles to stand and walk even with his staff as a mobility aid. I thought I might have overestimated how much, but having began to read Dragonlance properly (yes, I finally did it, though it ended up to be one day and I don't know when I'll get back to it) I found out that I have *under*estimated it. In the beginning of DoAT, a lot of time he can only walk with Caramon's help, not even just his staff. He literally needs a wheelchair.

I'm saying powerchair because he has whole-body weakness and likely pain (I don't think I've encountered descriptions of the latter directly yet, but from other things I'm certain that he canonically has fibromyalgia). Also because I need a powerchair bc of the same + specifically shoulder & upper arm issues but would even without them.

Headcanons and AUs where he is more disabled than in canon are absolutely valid, and all the power to you! But also please acknowledge the extent of his canonical disability, and the fact that that extent does warrant that need. These things go hand in hand!

Several years ago I witnessed a discussion about how Orube is Lawful Good in the comic and a good arc for her would be moving more towards True Neutral, learning to focus on herself.

She is *not* Lawful Good.

She is Lawful Neutral. It's huge. And moreover, as I have literally just realized while thinking this through to write about it in a server, even though in general I'd been thinking about this for this entire time:

Specifically, the moments where she *either* shows care for others (like with Maqi) *or* does something good for others (like when she let the 'Astral Drops' go) are also the moments where she goes *against* the system, does something she was not supposed to do.

Oh, she absolutely needs to learn to care about herself! But the reason she does not is not because she was taught to care for others instead. It's that she was taught to not care for either others or herself.

This misconception is also a part of a large tendency I see, not anywhere limited to the W.I.T.C.H. fandom (with which I have not interacted for a while), not limited to fandoms at all, but I don't have the spoons to word it out rn. I do want to post this now though, I think :) [smiling emoticon]

So the general consensus in the fandom seems to be that pawns have blunt teeth, high-ranking carapacians have sharp teeth, and all carapacians have sharp claws/fingertips.

But I once happened to pay attention to who has what. And I just remembered it and am making a post now.

_

The Queens: sharp teeth, five sharp fingers [on each hand]

The Kings: ? teeth (we never see their mouths iirc, definitely haven’t seen their teeth), four blunt fingers

SS: sharp teeth, five *blunt* fingers

DD: ? teeth (we haven’t got to see them), five blunt fingers

HB: sharp teeth, four blunt fingers

CD: ? teeth (we never see his mouth), three blunt fingers

ARs: sharp teeth, four sharp fingers

Standard male pawns (e.g. WV): blunt teeth, four sharp fingers

Standard female pawns (e.g. Ms. Paint): ? teeth (presumably blunt), four sharp fingers

PM: ? teeth, four sharp fingers (I’ve seen it mentioned that Hussie has called her a pawn, perhaps she’s a variation/mutation, so I’d assume she has blunt teeth)

_

These are all consistent in sprite mode, hero mode(s) and all animations; with one small, clearly erroneous exception: there are moments in one part of Cascade where WQ and Jack have their fingertips the other way around. But even there it cuts to a part by a different artist and Jack has blunt fingertips again.

The hands of the ARs and all the pawns are drawn the same way to each other.

The fact that all the top-rank agents actually have *blunt* fingers is really interesting to me. And I always see them described with claws in fics. And the Kings also have blunt fingers! Even though they are literally on the battlefield!

Thoughts wrt all this? :) [smiling emoticon]

I'm honestly quite unhappy with specifically the painting of this, at least in comparison to my previous one (not posted) — which idk about publicly posting bc it has a self-portrait 😭 — but decided to post it anyway.

I'd been unhappy with my previous depictions of Raistlin for several reasons, perhaps I'll write a separate post about it, and recently I read a new bunch of bits from the books and today realized that now, a few days, a bit more stuff later, I do have a distinct vision of Raistlin's appearance in my mind!

This is my very first attempt to draw, which also turned into the very first attempt to paint, this new version. More to come! (As of current plans)

This has a different skin tone than what I used in my previous paintings of Raistlin as well, tried to replicate what my brain has pictured to me probably based off some of the illustrations, and the way I rendered the old one doesn't work on this one, haven't yet fully worked out how to render it and perhaps I'll change it again, back to the old one or to something new.

A digital painting depicting, in portrait form, Raistlin Majere from Dragonlance, specifically — in the timeframe around the beginning of the Legends trilogy. He is looking skeptically towards the viewer's direction but not quite right in it, his head slightly bent down as part of his posture.

He is a thin human in his late twenties, but he looks probably quite a lot older than that, and his hair is thin and fully white. His skin, meanwhile, is literal metallic gold in color and, partly, in texture. His irises are also golden, and his pupils are in the shape of hourglasses. His hair is long, straight, down at the bottom but pulled back at the top; his lips are cracked, and blood vessels are well visible in his eyes. There are bags under his eyes as well. He has a large forehead and a receding hairline, eyebrows that meet in the middle and a crease of frequent frown between them, a nose with prominent both bridge and tip, a narrow chin and a rather narrow, but not quite, jaw. He is wearing a black shirt with a standing collar and a black robe with its good down.

A bit of cloudy color — purplish, whiteish — is behind him; the rest of the background is black.

The artist's signature, in thin, mostly translucent white brush, reads:

So I am finally writing a canonverse fic where Raistlin uses a wheelchair.

I headcanon that, like me (and I do think it's really canonically likely from what I know of canon...), Raistlin cannot use a manual wheelchair, so I suppose his chair has to work on magic.

The thing is I know nothing about dnd. And I'd like to find a way for the chair to move without him actively having to move it with magic himself, because it would probably strain him?

Only found manual chairs by tumblr searches "dnd wheelchair" and "dnd magic wheelchair".

A digital painting depicting Raistlin Majere from Dragonlance, at the time of the Chronicles trilogy. He is shown about half body, partly with his back turned towards the viewer, but his head turned, in side profile, looking at the unseen character who is looking at him from about the same angle as the viewer. Raistlin is angry, frustrated, tired, and is addressing the unseen character with the words, written in the painting, the letters red with a gold shine: “Nothing. Mind your business, Half-Elven.”

Raistlin is a twenty-five year old human, but several of the features typical to young humans were altered in his body. His hair is already fully grey, and his skin is literal metallic gold; so are his irises, and his pupils are in the shape of hourglasses.

He is very thin, with sharp but still somewhat soft features, and wavy hair that reaches almost the bottom of his shoulder blades, fully down and parted in the middle. He has thin eyebrows that meet in the middle, circles under his eyes, and thin, cracked lips. His eyes are bloodshot, and there’s a little blood on his teeth.

He is wearing a red robe and a red cape that also covers his shoulders, with a wide black border with thin gold ornament. With one hand, he is leaning on a dark brown wooden staff; the top of the staff is not visible in the painting.

The background is an irregular texture of brown, lighter behind Raistlin and darker towards the edges.

I wish I had used references, but in any case, yay 💗

I also really wanted to put some thin bright pink accents on top, but haven’t managed to do it well :( [sad emoticon]

[Image description:

A digital painting depicting Boldir Lamati from Hiveswap. She is shown from the chest up, looking meaningfully in front of her and up, wearing only the thin white shirt she wears under her coat. The background behind her is a dark, deep pink starfield, a pale teal hill and a white spiral over it, and, behind her head, a thick, round cloud of pink and orange dots.

Boldir is a young troll from the Homestuck universe — human-like with grey skin, pointy ears, sharp teeth, orange-yellow horns and yellow sclerae; black hair and, in young ones, like Boldir, grey irises. Boldir’s two upper front teeth form a large triangle together, and her horns are thick, going from the sides of her head, and angling upwards and getting thinner in the middle, ending in sharp upward points.

She is thin, with a wide, angular face, a wide nose, and a dimple on her chin and her nose. She has wide eyes with monolids, and circles under her eyes. Her eyebrows are very thick and meet in the middle, and her hair is neck-length, longer in the back than in the front, mostly straight but full, and parted in the middle, with light bangs reaching her eyebrows. There’s a very light green blush on her face.

The shadows on her figure have a greenish hue, and there are green highlights in her hair.

The Wikipedia, wiki, and TVTropes *really* don’t do justice to some aspects of Dragonlance, what the fuck even.

I disliked how they described the handling of two things, and it was completely fucking different in the books and I absolutely fucking loved how it actually was in the books (the bullying in Raistlin’s youth and the raisania rejection scene). And they erase a good portion of his disability, only talking about him coughing blood since the Test and having had weak health all his life (which is. already more than some of the fans and adaptations acknowledge).

(Disclaimer: I still haven’t read the books in full, perhaps I will soon. I’m also definitely not saying that the books are perfect yea)

After the Test of High Sorcery.

(Still mostly haven’t actually read the books, sorry; and yeah, the robes are a different type, forgot it while sketching and then ultimately decided not to fix. Maybe it’s a different one)

(Either way, this is now one of my most favorite things of mine. Wow)

[Image description:

A digital painting depicting Raistlin Majere from Dragonlance — soon after he has passed his Test of High Sorcery.

He is shown from the chest up, at a ~3/4 angle, and his head is turning towards the viewer — and someone talking to him offscreen. He’s just been through hell and looks exactly like it. He’d much prefer not to be talking to that offscreen someone right now. He is frustrated, angry, and *very* pained and exhausted.

He is a twenty-one year old human. However, several traits typically distinctive of both of these categories have been changed. His skin is literal metallic gold. His hair is grey. His irises are also golden in color, and his pupils are in the shape of hourglasses.

He is very thin; his hair reaches past his shoulders and is heavily wavy in texture. His eyes look very large and round, and are very bloodshot. There is also blood on his bared teeth. there are deep dark circles under his eyes. His face is pretty angular but those angles are rounded, his nose is wide and rounded in shape, his eyebrows are thick and meet in the middle, and his lips are on the thin side.

He is wearing a white shirt, and a red robe with its hood down over it.

The shadows on the painting are deep.

The texture behind him is a mess of gold, with red over it. Behind it, the canvas is very dark.
