IMPORTANT UPDATE ON THE SHEHAB CAMPAIGN

Many of you have probably seen the Shehab family's campaign circulating around over the last several months. Fahed & Reem Shehab (@/fahedshehab-new & @/reemshehabnew) have been campaigning like crazy for months to save their family of 13 & thanks to you guys' unbelievable generosity, they were getting super close to completing their fundraiser.

Unfortunately, due issues with their organizer's bank, donations to the old campaign have been frozen & they have to start over. (details of the issue here)

As you can imagine, this has been an incredibly painful blow to the whole family. For now, the old campaign will remain live but donations closed so that anyone who sees older posts with the previous link can redirect donations to the new campaign instead.

To all you lovely donors who helped them get so far (especially in the last couple of weeks): please request a refund from GFM and donate to the new campaign instead.

It's an incredibly frustrating situation to have happen so close to the end & it comes on the back of an absolutely horrifying year. Uncountable losses, inhumane living conditions, displacement after displacement after displacement, endless danger and far too many close brushes with death. They're all exhausted and heartbroken.

Let's do what we can to make sure that they get back on track as soon as possible!

i started playing Disco Elysium and last night (the same day i started playing) i woke up to my stomach hurting so bad that in my delirium i thought it had to do with something from the game.

i thought this was completely normal until waking up later after the pain was gone.

ok last thing. but what people fundamentally need to get through their heads is the significance of gaza fundraisers not being the same as like mutual aid when you're helping someone get groceries, because it is a genocide. there is insane deliberate scarcity and prices are unmanageable, because there is nowhere nearly enough for everyone, so only people who can pay can eat. and what positioning individual fundraisers as the only course of action does is quite simply give a tiny percentage of random people whose fundraisers take off the ability to pay those prices while thousands of others can't. and every one of those thousands of people without a fundraiser is suffering through the same inconceivably horrific reality. it is giving a few completely desperate people out of hundreds of thousands a slightly more favorable position in a horrific war economy of imposed scarcity. and what grassroots community kitchens do is try to mitigate in some small way that inconceivable hierarchy of who can pay and who can't, by stretching ingredients as far as they can last to cook meals at large scale and give them out at no cost. and obviously people are still going to send money to their friends and families because this is hell what else are we supposed to do but please just think about that before promoting endless individual fundraisers as somehow the most ethical way to help

Operation Olive Branch has a spreadsheet dedicated to mutual aid, local distro, community kitchens, etc. in Gaza.

This is a good place to start if seeking to donate to a community resilience action. Just contact the group(s) directly to make sure they are still active. Life in Gaza and Palestine is full of uncertainty.

Got off a video call with my grandma. Asked her what sort of American foods she was enjoying (my dad flew her in from Korea and she's staying with him in Phoenix rn).
