i love when you can feel the disdain dripping off of a wikipedia article
Looking to get into philosophy does anyone have any thoughts for beginners?
Yep some stuff is bad or good.
But it depends
queer people on this site really make me feel like a confused straight guy at pride. the discourse here could kill a man
"why polyamorous people aren't valid" "mspec lesbians AREN'T okay actually" "aroallos are freaks" "he/him dni. cis men dni" "this post is for non-men only" yessss and the one with long hair goes in the girl box, then the one with short hair goes in the boy box!!
maybe I'm just a boring he/him white guy but inventing about 7 trillion terms to define "man" and "woman" so you can reinforce gender essentialism isn't very "love is love" of you. maybe i just don't have a sexuality but picking and choosing what sexualities are normal and which ones are "weird and predatory" sounds like we're all a bunch of republicans on fox news. if you attend your local pride parade and look REAAALLLYYY closely, you'll notice you can't actually tell if someone's gay or not from their appearance, and there's no way to know if they're "invading queer spaces". maybe it's just me, but when i attended my local gaybar last night for the drag show, they didn't ask for my gay-card with a peer reviewed diagnosis of faggot stamped on it. they just let me in the building. i live a life of bliss and luxury in not caring about any queer discourse ever, and just going "WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY :-)" while booting up the latest cod game. and it seems much more fun than whatever the fuck you people are on about
muting my notifs for this post but i need to acknowledge this first. My favorite tags fr 🙏
It's easy to think "nobody in the whole wide world cares about me" on an empty stomach but try doing it while eating Vegetables and Rice. Seems less convincing now doesn't it? That's simply the power of Vegetables and Rice..
transfemme and transmasc are useful terms for trans people that don't fully align with either binary gender and rather just associate with masculinity or feminity based on vibes but for gods sake if you are nonbinary please remember that you don't need to use them. I think sometimes the labels just announce "this is my agab!" and that's no one's business, especially if you're nonbinary and you don't align with being a man or a woman at all. you don't have to volunteer any information that you don't align with.
[In a room where it's all quiet]: Wow it's like a western front in here

Universities love to make their websites completely unusable and impossible to find things on it's their favourite activity
love the word lackluster. well it sucks because it’s not shiny
"why we build the wall" from hadestown is really gonna trip up future media analysis students. they'll be like "ah a piece of media from the 2010s referencing building a wall to keep out the poor, clearly this is a reference to the president of the united states from 2016-2020", and then their professor will have to be like "actually the concept album for this musical came out in 2010"
how i hope this conversation goes from there is like:
"actually the concept album for this musical came out in 2010 and the original song was written in 2006"
"so she knew about the wall 10 years before Trump proposed it be built?"
"well, let's talk about that...
...but that wasn't when the wall was first built...
...this shift in the '90s marked the start of an enforcement philosophy called Prevention Through Deterrence, which basically says that if crossing is made more deadly, fewer people will cross (fact check: it just means that more people die on the journey). From the start, the purpose of the wall was not to physically to stop people from crossing -- it was to make it more deadly to do so.
...and we can also look at the song metaphorically and expansively, as a reference to the policing of migration, to company towns, to gated communities, and the physical and metaphorical walls that throughout history have kept people in and out and defined who does and don't belong.
"...how did you just say a hyperlink?"
"why worry about that when you can use this show as an entry-point into a deeper understanding of capitalism's investment in coercive control over human migration, and its long history in the United States?"
"so the song only seems prophetic because the long history of policing and militarizing the border has been ignored, and treated as an outsider position by Trump rather than the continuation of bi-partisan policy dating back decades? and it can be seen to reflect larger patterns of capital controlling people's movement in order to extract land, labor, wealth, and ultimately life from them?"
"and the song slaps"
"....and the song slaps"
thank you so much for this well-researched response tho because, as a texan, the very concept that trump invented the idea of the border wall made me kinda. reboot. not mad at op! just surprised at the difference in our life experiences

Actually very good advice
Is this still good advice? Do we still make enameled saucepans with things that will become poisonous if the enamel is scraped open?
On the direct level, it’s good advice with non-stick pans: if the non-stick coating gets scratched, it can start flaking Teflon into your food, and that isn’t good.
But in a broader sense, the idea that “if it’s too unsafe/unpleasant/broken for you, it’s too unsafe/unpleasant/broken to donate” is still very, very relevant. Food pantries everywhere have stories about people donating expired cans of food; it was expired, so the donor didn’t want them, without considering it’s just as expired and unwanted by the people who need to rely on the food pantry. Clothing drives often stress that they want clean, non-stained clothes for the same reasons: people will donate their garbage. It’s an indignity to think that something not good enough for you will be good enough for The Poors. That is just as true now as it was in 1915.
let the contemporary record show mr beast was pretty ignorable for his whole career if you were just like, busy.

My mom is waxing poetic about cheese tonight
Both a timeless question and probably the most profound piece of cheese-themed poetry ever
