I love Chamber of Secrets, though I may have read it less than some others, it’s really good! (Don’t ask me my favorite though, I can’t decide xDD)

Rey and Neville had very little adventures in this one, actually :c

They weren’t really involved in the main story. Rey tried to reassure Neville that he wouldn’t be attacked because he’s a pureblood though haha

They met Ginny and befriended her in her first year, yes! They were not super close yet, and they didn’t know Ginny enough to understand she was not herself.  

Rey also became friend with Colin and while the books don’t say Colin and Ginny were friends, they do say she was shocked and sad about him being attacked because they sat together in class (right? You read CoS more than me so you can tell me if I remember wrong xD)

Rey comforted Ginny and she would have wanted to spend more time with her but Ginny became more distant. Again, they didn’t know each other since long enough, it was weird, but maybe it was just Ginny! xD

I think only Harry and Ron knew Ginny was taken, since they overheard teachers talk about it. 

But Rey and Ginny’s friendship grew stronger in PoA, and even more in GoF!

Audrey and Neville were only friends back then. Supporting each other! And Neville practiced his dancing and was excited about the ball (that’s one of the rare movie things I kept cause it’s so sweet), so Rey naturally gave him all her support, helped him practice when she could, and even brainstormed about who he could invite. He needed to go with a super cool date!! He deserved the best date! 

It was a confusing time for them. Growing up from kids to teenagers, they started to feel that... friendship turning into something else. But they weren’t going to just accept it and confess to each other, nonono. What if it wasn’t mutual (it couldn’t be!), and it ruined their friendship? Without that fear, they might have gone together as friends. 

But of course, secretely, Rey wished he would have asked her. (She hated Ron for saying no one would want to go with Nev!! >:C what. an. idiot!)

Neville went with Ginny, absolutely! A perfect choice! And Rey went alone. She had no partner :c She didn’t even try, actually, and she put on a dress and went anyway because all her friends said it’d be fun.

But Ginny is very good friend with both Nev and Rey, it didn’t take her long to notice and she made sure to reunite them so they could share a dance or two. That’s also how Ginny ended up chatting with Michael who became her boyfriend (funny, that’s canon, Ginny and Michael met at the ball and started dating, ain’t that a perfect fit for my story xD)

Sooo Neville and Audrey shared a dance or two, or more (Ginny had company so it wasn’t rude! I can also totally see them sharing looks and Ginny being proud of herself or winking at them haha), and I believe that is then, at the ball, that they truly realized they had feelings for each other. (Though they didn’t confess or date immediately, they went through some other things before, but that’s another story)
