Of course!! I’d be super happy to! Thank you so much for asking!
I always love questions and talking about characters is fun! 💗 So here she is~
Audrey Winchester, Rey for short, is an half American, half British witch. Her mother was from Kansas, and a good part of her family lives in America. She grew up in England though, which is why she goes to Hogwarts like her father and siblings.
She’s a pure blood witch who grew up surrounded by wizards, but with a great curiosity for Muggles. One of her cousins from America marries a muggle lady at some point, and she sends Rey items and books every now and then, she loves muggle faiy tales the most! She also has a walkman she’s very proud of, and a bunch of other things like that.
She’s a Gryffindor, her wand is made of Hornbeam with a Phoenix Feather core. Her patronus is a Lynx.
Her parents were both Aurors. Her mother, Mary, was good friend with Alice Longbottom. The two became pregnant at the same time and loved the idea of seeing their children grow up together, as friends, like their mothers. Unfortunately, the war took both Mary and Alice (Alice is alive but... you know ;; ) and Audrey’s father became over protective of his children and forgot about his wife’s wish. But the little miracle is that the two kids became friends anyway, after Rey’s brother saved Neville from drowning at Blackpool.
Audrey is a loud kid, happy, dynamic and full of energy. She enjoys to play outside, take care of little animals, spend time in her tree house, explore and gather muggle things. She looks up to her big brothers and wants to spend time with them, and play Quidditch. She can be a little annoying, maybe because her father loved her dearly and always let her do everything she wanted. She’s a bit spoiled!
She’s a good friend for Neville, though she’s much more extraverted than him - and basically while Rey’s dad let her do anything she wants and spoils her, Neville has a very pressuring family, so parts of them are polar opposites. But Neville enjoys spending time with Rey’s family, and she even passed on summer vacations visiting her family in America to stay with Neville and not miss his birthday, even though he forgot hers twice. (He swore not to forget it anymore after she did that!)
I like to think they help each other find balance! (I see them a bit like Carl and Ellie from UP as kids!) She’s super super eager to go to Hogwarts and yet, when Neville believes he’s a squib because of his family’s pressure, she says she won’t go if he can’t. Eventually, they both get their letter anyway!
In her first years at Hogwarts, she’s very outgoing and speaks her mind, also chatting and laughing and doodling a lot so she surprises everyone by still being a pretty okay/good student. She’s great on a broom, but she’s not Harry Potter so she doesn’t make it in the team until years later. She’s a chaser! (She befriends Harry by talking Quidditch, by the way)
Audrey doesn’t like Snape for the way he treats Neville and she isn’t shy to say it. She also stands up to bullies in school!
She loves flowers and charms, she’s good with spells. Less good in history of magic. She takes quite a few extra curricular classes later, Ghoul Studies, Muggles Art, Art and Music. She’s an artist and loves to draw. Her grades in Herbology drops in year 6/7 and Neville helps her (though at some point in year 7 they stop worrying about their NEWTs...) [Rumor says Rey’s grades in Herbology dropped when she started staring more at Neville than she was listening to Professor Sprout]
She’s also good friends with Ron (he thinks she’s hilarious), Ginny, Colin, Seamus, Hermione... well most of the Gryffindors really because she spends time with them, but maybe more with Colin, Ginny, Luna and Seamus. And of course Neville.
As the years go by she starts having romantic feelings for Neville, though she’s too shy and afraid to change the way she is with him, she even encourages him to invite other girls to the Yule Ball and ends up going alone. Ginny, who happens to be one of Audrey’s best friends and smart enough to be aware of this, encourages Neville to ask Rey for a dance or two while they are at the ball. This is a revelation for both... they kind of dance around the subject for months though, unsure how to speak their heart. They only confess feelings (Rey first) during year 5.
Rey changes a bit as she grows up, around 15, she’s far from the loud kid she used to be. She’s sensitive, empathic and caring. She thinks more before talking than she did as a child, she is a good listener. Though still dynamic and fun to be around, laughing and smiling and joking a lot. As she turns into a more sensitive girl, she starts doubting her bravery and asks the hat twice if she is really a Gryffindor, he always agrees. She’s not sure why he’s convinced she is a Gryffindor, but she finds a great comfort in this, she is very proud of her house. (She wears a lot of Gryffindor or Quidditch themed clothes, even out of school!)
Year 7 is very harsh for her (for a lot of people...) and the fear of losing her family (all fighting death eaters and hiding from Voldemort, she has no news from them for months and months...) or Neville (who is (co)leading the resistance and often gets badly injured) is so, so hard and she’s very afraid to be weak because sometimes she wishes she could run away with them and be safe, seeing Neville stand up to the Carrows is driving her crazy worried. She’s proud of him, but she feels bad for wishing he wouldn’t do that sometimes. Even Seamus gets hurt trying to protect her. It’s so, so harsh knowing your loved ones can get hurt if you refuse to do terrible things. It’s hard when what’s right has such terrible consequences. She finds out eventually that bravery is to be there anyway, to do her best for everyone. She fights and she protects and she cares. She tries her best!
She always wanted to be brave and felt like she wasn’t, but she was not giving up, and she cared a lot.
Years after the Battle of Hogwarts, she and Neville get married, Audrey becomes Professor of Defense against the dark arts - which means there is two “Professor Longbottom” at Hogwarts! They have a daughter, Mary Alice, who comes a bit late (which is another story, a little sad one but with a happy ending!)
Annnnd there you go! A longer answer about Audrey Winchester.
