I’m sure you’re disinclined to read this letter. We’ve had our differences and didn’t part on the best of terms, but I urge you to put all that aside and just fucking listen. For Tav’s sake.
It’s the devil. I don’t know how, but he got to her. Her condition has worsened since the battle. She spends most days in bed. I’ve done my best to tend to her, but there’s only so much comfort even the best potions and medicines can provide. Two days ago, I returned from a brief errand–Gods, Gale, I was only gone for an hour at most–to find the house abandoned, no sign of anything amiss save for the faint stench of cherries and sulfur. She left a note on her pillow, a snippet of verse:
Oh, my heart, it aches to stay But the flesh will have its way Oh, the way is dark and long I’m already gone
I got as far as that damn diabolist’s balcony before I was caught. She threatened to tie me to a chair and set me on the roof to watch the sun rise, former working relationship be damned. As much as it pains me to say, I haven't anywhere else to turn. I know you’re absorbed with your all-important quest for the crown, but if you ever loved my our Tav, go find her. She’ll listen to you.

My main Tav's name is a variation of Tav, but it is a real name.
My Tav from my multiplayer playthrough is a fictional name but not made up by me, and then my dark urge (who I have not played yet) is a made-up variation of Tav.
Octavia (or Tav) was born a Bintalzari, a name echoing with wealth and influence in the glittering city of Calimsport. But beneath the gleam of privilege, her parents were cold and rigid, obsessed with power above all else. As the eldest daughter, Octavia carried the sting of their disappointment – they longed for a son, an heir. When one finally came, it was at the terrible cost of her mother's life. Life got worse for her and her sisters after her mother's death. They were pretty much raised by the house staff as their father neglected them.
Octavia was raised like a porcelain doll, moulded for a life of alliances and political manoeuvring. She yearned to train in combat, to protect her city, but her father ignored her pleas. Instead, she was trapped in a miserable, arranged marriage to a man steeped in corruption because her father saw no further use for her.
Her husbands death by poison was a scandal – and though Octavia was innocent, her own family condemned her and she was charged as guilty without trial. Cast out and hunted, she fled to the city's shadowy underside. Even there, betrayal stung; an old friend sold her into a harem's gilded cage.
Five years passed before a band of holy knights serving Helm stormed the harem, liberating her. Octavia joined their ranks, proving her worth as a fighter. But even among the devout, she found hypocrisy. She fell for a Tiefling paladin, a love cut short when she died needlessly on a mission. Tired of the selective justice, internal power struggles, and financial extortion she left.
Octavia shed her vows, becoming a blade for hire for anyone that needs protection in Faerun. Her reputation grew alongside a taste for hard-earned pleasures. Yet she refuses to be called a hero for slaying beasts and helping the common folk. Around 12 months before the events of BG3, she became a target for assassins (poison), triggering the loss of a child she hadn't even known about.
She survived the attempt at her life but in a weakened state, as it took a while for her body to recover from the trauma. After a severe bout of depression she decided to head back to Calimshan to deal with the unfinished business from her past before she was abducted.
Ocativa struggles with trust, finding it difficult to open up to others, even though she desires to do so. While she is driven to aid people, she holds skepticism towards the idea of heroes. Suddenly finding herself entwined with the lives of six strangers, she realizes that survival hinges upon placing trust in them. Reluctantly, she must also embrace the mantle of a hero, and come to terms with falling in love with another person who is doomed by the narrative.

Yes, the comment was poorly timed but it is hardly a sleight towards Wyll. That is just Gale's way of sympathising with Wyll. Granted, it was ill thought. All the companions make a poor comment at some point towards another.
