so many of the "i only use chat gpt for ___" excuses are concerning because people use it in place of learning basic, valuable skills.

you don't need chat gpt to write professional sounding emails for you, there are many many guides on the internet and with a bit of practise you can learn to write them yourself. a very important skill for a professional to have, and some of the basic rules will carry over into irl conversations!

you don't need chat gpt to be a "more detailed search engine", because you're robbing yourself of the chance to learn how to find and filter information on the internet and evaluate the credibility of sources. which is a VITAL skill. plus, chat gpt is notorious for being wrong?

if you use it to write essays, you're taking away your ability to hone your research skills, your writing skills, your critical thinking skills. your ability to create persuasive arguments!

and for most of the other reasons people use chat gpt, there are non-ai websites for that! for maths, wolfram alpha. for figuring out what you can cook with the ingredients you have there's supercook and the like. for creating routines, there's about a million apps!

whatever you "only" use chatgpt for i promise there are better websites out there that you don't have to worry will produce complete bullshit???? and destroy the environment???

Seriously: you are not helping yourself.

my friend is a college professor and has reliably called a paper as being ai written before running it through the detection software. Because they fucking suck.

it's so fucking frustrating to be in college and know everyone uses chatgpt and to be tempted by it constantly while also knowing intellectually that it doesn't work and it's a bad idea. like, i hang out in the library a lot, and i see people using chatgpt on assignments almost every day. and i know it isn't a good way to learn, because it's not really "artificial intelligence" so much as it is an auto text generator. and it gives you wrong information or badly worded sentences all the time. but every week i stare down assignments i don't want to do and i think man. if only i could type this prompt into a text generator and have it done in 10 minutes flat. and i know it wouldn't work. it wouldn't synthesize information from the text the way professors want, it wouldn't know how to answer questions, it just spits out vaguely related words for a couple paragraphs. but knowing my classmates get their work done in 10 minutes flat with it while i fight every ounce of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in my body is infuriating.

i think one thing that's been really helpful in keeping myself from using it is thinking about Why i have to do the specific assignments i have. like what is the actual goal. like some assignments the goal isn't "share a story about parenting styles in ur personal life" so much as it is "show you understand the concept of parenting styles thru a story". or it's not "how do hormones impact teenagers' decision making abilities" it's "can you understand, reword, synthesize, and explain the information in the text and videos to explain how hormones impact teenagers' decision making abilities". and looking at it as "this assignment is asking me to read some words and then understand and explain them, which is a skill i want to have" rather than "i have to answer these stupid questions that seem really obvious because all my professors want me to die forever" has helped. especially in a world where everyone uses chatgpt i want to know how to read with my own brain

You know how Google has "safe search?" It blocks stuff that potentially sexual in nature and you can turn it off. I wish there was a feature you could opt in to block the results from like Open AI or something. Maybe there's a Firefox plug in... I'm gonna look it up and report back. If you know of anything you can put it in the reblogs or comments. Thanks

When SAG-AFTRA responded to the studios’ latest contract offer on Monday, AI protections for high-earning members remained a key sticking point.

Multiple sources familiar with the state of the negotiations tell The Hollywood Reporter that SAG-AFTRA has pushed back on an AI clause that is included in the studios’ “last, best and final offer.” The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is seeking to secure AI scans for Schedule F performers — guild members who earn more than the minimum for series regulars ($32,000 per TV episode) and feature films ($60,000). The companies’ suggested clause would require studios and streamers to pay to scan the likeness of Schedule F performers — think George Clooney, Ellen Pompeo, etc. SAG-AFTRA is seeking to attach a compensation for the re-use of AI scans as AMPTP member companies would also need to secure consent from the performer. The language currently in the AMPTP’s offer would see the studios and streamers secure the right to use scans of deceased performers without the consent of their estate or SAG-AFTRA.

“This is one of the biggest reasons SAG did not accept the ‘last, best and final’ offer from the AMPTP. We could not allow that language to stand,” says one union-side source. “This is massive. Every A-, B-, C-, D- and E-lister — all the higher-paid performers — who think this is a minimum wage strike, they must know they are in this fight. They have to realize that this is about protecting them. This is their strike now when they realize what’s on the line. The people who launched the campaign to take a deal — they’d be f—ked if we took this deal with that in there.”

the reason people aren't noticing details, like I pointed out in my series of posts about reevesartisse, is because we are so used to consuming content instead of enjoying art. quick click to like and reblog, then you move on.

this is adjacent to the desire for instant gratification

Wildly unfair, I think.

I frequently reblog and hype up art which is riddled with wrong anatomy, weak colour theory, terrible fabric folds, and dubious paintbrush choices.

Because a lot of fanartist are beginners, self taught, or both.

If I stopped at every single painting to make sure it's perfect in every way, where would I draw the line? It's why I HATE ai art. It was easy when they couldn't draw hands or teeth. But this? That Obi wan cloak looks perfectly fine to me and I could name dozens of artists who do far worse with fabric.

I don't have the inclination or energy to weight in on every new artist and skim their entire history to make sure I'm not getting scammed, when we're getting at that level of fucked up.

I would like to not be accused of not enjoying art and being a dumb content consumer because I was too quick to spot AI looking this good on my phone.

What's the solution now? Only reblog art from vetted artists? Only reblog art I've spent 10min critically gazing at?

Some of the art I reblog is cool/cute/I want to boost the creator and not necessarily art I love looking at and want to scrutinize. I don't need to gaze in depth at everything, because reblogging it doesn't mean I'm that smitten in the first place.

Except now apparently I need to?

Oh I loathe AI art that hides itself. But I also don't want to be told my consumerist mindset is why I hit the quick RB on an AI post by mistake.

yeah, that's very fair of you to say. i'm sorry for putting you on the back foot.

i only figured out it was AI art after looking at one piece for a moment. the artist tried to prove it wasn't AI art and that doubling down is what first of all made me notice even more errors.

you're right that beginner artists make plenty of mistakes with cloth and anatomy, but they will not be on the same canvas as art which you would find on the cover of Marvel Comics. the uncanny disconnect is what I noticed.

I'm sorry for being flippant and grossly overgeneralizing but it very much was not about you, Blue. It's about a greater trend in fandom where all work is being treated as content to be consumed, it was for the 'general you' which includes myself.

it's not about vetting every artist, it's about spotting a liar.

i get the feeling quite a large number of people don't mind AI art as much as i do. and that's fine. i'm not planning on extending this concern into tomorrow, we all have better things to do.

i sincerely do appreciate you reblogging this with your thoughts. i'm not mad at the people who reblogged the original art, i'm frustrated by society.

SITH! OBI-WAN & ANAKIN SKYWALKER | WHAT IF? STAR WARS BY ME. I always liked the idea of Obi-Wan corrupted by the dark side, so i made this. Star Wars really needs a what if show.

this is AI generated, look at the light reflecting in Anakin's eyes, their brown color rather than blue and the numerous folds on Obi-Wan's cloak and Anakin's tabards, showing a lack of understanding of clothing. Obi-Wan's eyes are also problematic, filled in with a different brush.

the original poster, reevesartisse, is now tracing the art generated by machines and thus has "progress" to show on their page.

the artist would be better served not trying to pass off these traces as their own work, especially when the line quality is so different from before they were tracing.

even the recent "process" art (meant as proof) of Anakin and Ahsoka has numerous detail issues.

tracing should have let the artist fix those errors but a lack of understanding how art works left the machine errors intact.

the artist would be better served by just using the tracing techniques they've learned recently and study art drawn by people rather than machines so they can learn more about drawing and make more interesting art!

tracing should never be shared as your own art.

it isn't demotivating to me exactly, and I hate call out posts, but this is the second time an generated image manipulator has become popular in among star wars fans (first was saturn255) and I'm really not ok with people lying like this

SITH! AHSOKA. BY ME.

After leaving the Jedi Order, Darth Maul manipulated Ahsoka Tano into turning her to the dark side, making her Maul's new apprentice.

“What's the lesson, master?”
