Ever wondered what it was like to read Stargate fic in the golden era of the fandom (1999-2005)? Overwhelmed by the sheer volume of stories on AO3 and want a collection of curated recs to dive into? What is it?

A Stargate SG-1 Fanfiction Time Capsule, originally collected onto burned CDs to send to fandom friends through the mail. (Yes.)

It contains ~850 PDFs of text files copied straight from the web between 2001-2005, sourced from LiveJournal, author websites, awards collections, rec dumps, webzines, and occasionally FF.net.

Think of it as a Trapper Keeper full of my favorites to shove at friends when they asked for recs.

What kind of fic?

Predominantly Sam/Jack, but plenty of gen/team-focused stuff, as well, organized into broad categories - Angst, Humor, Fluff, Mini!OTP, etc. - and author. There are a handful of Stargate Atlantis and crossover fics in there, too. The categories are grouped together to fit on multiple CDs cleanly, so don't spend too much energy wondering about the logic behind the organization.

Things weren't tagged for much back then, but the archivist left a few notes where it would be helpful. Most things were posted with a rating, but not all.

Anything else I need to know going in?

In a good-faith effort to protect privacy, I redacted author contact info if it isn't still publicly available with a web search (i.e. still findable on an archive somewhere like samandjack.net). If I missed any, and you're the author in question and want an email address redacted, let me know!

A few stories have embedded links to other fics, and you'll have to trust The Wayback Machine for some of those. In a few cases, I added the archive.org links directly.

I'm releasing these stories without any additional formatting. The web was a bit of an untamed beast back then, so you might have issues on small mobile devices if the text is tiny. Some of these authors have ported their fic to AO3, so you can try finding them there for a better tagging/reading experience!
