The Slytherins went 200% during the Yule Ball. Everyone got together to make sure Slytherin was the best looking house there. No two Slytherins had the same dress/suit/robes. They all did each other's makeup in the common room, to ensure everyone looked good. The richer Slytherins helped pay for the less wealthy Slytherins. No one could be allowed to ruin their top-of-the-world reputation, after all.

I love this idea!
The slytherins could have avoided being caught by giving their DA an official name and interest that could act as a cover to their meetings, meaning if they were all caught together they could simply change what they were doing. Being slytherins and keen to do the job well they probably had a great lookout system to keep them from detection.
I also love the idea of Snape having a hand in setting it up. Not the illegal DADA club, but in bringing some students opposed to Voldemort’s ideals together. When Snape was at Hogwarts there seems to have been a ring of Slytherin students working to groom/recruit people for serving Voldemort, so Snape would perhaps be keen to make sure such a group didn’t have the same power while he was head of Slytherin. He may therefore secretly bring a group together to fight against pureblood ideology, acting as a counterweight to Voldemort’s recruiters, but crucially no Slytherin student knows its origin because Snape makes sure he avoids detection while setting it up.
This group then forms the Slytherin DA and tries to attract others to the cause, meeting under a fake name so Umbridge doesn’t find out. They also could form a fellow resistance group to the Order of the Phoenix, which seems to lack much Slytherin presence, making life difficult for the Death Eaters.
I never believed that all Slytherins were with Umbridge, but they were all generalized like the bad guys for like no reason. DA would highly benefit of Slytherins being with them but I guess prejudice :)

Slytherin Problems
- The fact J.K. Rowling waited until the last two books to introduce Slytherins who were actually good people, such as Slughorn, Andromeda, and Regulus (I understand her waiting to reveal Snape wasn’t evil, though. Plot reasons.)
- The fact the films left out most of those good Slytherins.
- The character who’s supposed to be our, “Look, Slytherins can be heroic, too” guy being the character who bullied the heck out of half his students, and thus people both in and not in Slytherin find him highly controversial, and morally grey at best.
- Almost all Slytherin themed merchandise is Death Eater related due to the aforementioned small number of good Slytherins from the books.
- Dumbledore awarding all those points at the last minute.
- That whole “no witch or wizard that ever went bad who wasn’t in Slytherin” quote that is easily disproven simply by looking up what house Professor Quirrell was in.
- The fact Umbridge is in our house.
- Edgy people who embrace the “All Slytherins are evil” stereotypes and throw the rest of us under the bus by trying to use their house as an excuse to be a total brat, which also gives non-Slytherin HP fans a bad impression of Slytherin HP fans. (I literally met a girl who claimed she was sorted into Slytherin because she was a “mean b****” and that the rest of us were, too. And yes, she was a total b****.)
- The fact that the books seem to treat “cunning and ambitious” like it’s a bad thing. Cunning and Ambition are good traits to have, and many heroic characters from other franchises and mythologies have these traits. You could easily argue any trickster character is a Slytherin because of their cunning.
- The “all smart characters are Ravenclaws” mentality that the fandom tends to have despite “cunning” literally being one of our traits, and the fact there are multiple highly intelligent characters who are not in Ravenclaw, such as Hermione, Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape, Professor Slughorn….most of the professors, actually.
- The people who can’t be bothered to read Pottermore.
- The stupid “lock the Slytherins in the dungeon” scene that not only never happened in the books, but makes McGonagall look like a jerk who puts and entire groups of children in harms way just because a couple of them wanted to hand Harry over, as if Pansy Parkinson somehow speaks for all Slytherins.

Marcus, Adrian and Draco before a Quidditch Match Adrian was on the Slytherin team in Harry Potter’s first year up to and including his fifth year; hence, he is no more than two years ahead of Harry, assuming that he did not need to repeat a year, like Marcus Flint. headcanon that since the slytherin common room is under the lake there’s a room where the walls and ceiling are glass and you can just see into the lake like an aquarium

headcanon that when this was first done the mermaids got really aggressive and hateful about it and started ramming the glass but since it was magic this just caused them injuries
until a deaf/hoh slytherin started to teach them sign language and it took a long time bit by the time they left hogwarts they and the rest of the house were communicating with the mermaids and on good terms
eventually it becomes a part of slytherin house culture you’re a slytherin you know sign language because if you don’t chat with the mermaids they get grumpy
this helps a lot of deaf/hoh students
this also gives slytherin the best grades of any house on all aquatic magical studies
the mermaids give terrible dating advice do not trust them
The most common mermaid dating advice, of course, being “Drown him”

I love how people underestimate Slytherins’ loyalty. It’s not always the loyalty you think you would see, they do everything the way they want to and they are loyal to the people who they want to be loyal to. You cannot make a Slytherin do something they don’t want to if they are not loyal to you.
- Narcissa Black: literally looked Voldy in the eyes AND LIED, like the nerve it takes. She looked Death in the eye and lied for her son.
- Regulus Black, I’m not even explaining this. The kid died out of his loyalty to Kreacher??
- Severus Snape: his loyalty to Dumbledore (not to anybody else but to him). This may not be a popular idea but good lord that man did some crazy stuff out of his loyalty to Dumbledore.
- Bellatrix Lestrange: went to prison, came out never changed her ways. She was loyal to Dark Lord to the end. Borderline obsessive but at the beginning everything she does is out of loyalty.
- Andromeda Tonks: her loyalty to her family knows no bounds. Not to her blood family but to her real family.
- Draco Malfoy: who almost killed his headmaster because he wanted to protect his family and himself.
I’m sure there are more examples but these are the ones that came to my mind. Do not underestimate Slytherins my dears.

Okay, well if you actually looked at my blog, you would probably know that I have never condoned teenage James’ actions towards Snape. However, Snape was never in the right either. Both of them have made mistakes but James is the one who owned up to his, not Snape. Also, sorry. Helen.
Okay, so as someone who has had waaaay too many debates on this kinda shit, let me just say:
The Maraouders were asshats.
Snape deserves a few broken arm and legs.
And Slytherin is the house of the cunning and ambitious, not whiny and pathetic.
Conclusion: You can support the Slytherin house and still hate Snape. why?
Because Slughorn was also a Slytherin. Did he bully Harry because he acted like James? NO. Did he insult muggle-borns because his first crush (a muggle-born, i remind you all) was smart and rejected him? NO. DID SLUGHORN EVER, EVER FIGHT ON THE SIDE OF THE DEATH EATERS????? NO!!! Snape is still a complete and total asshat, so please stop saying that he’s perfect. He also joined the Death Eaters, and hated everyone who was muggle-born. His friends and him literally jumped a kid (see: book 5, flashback). The marauders never attacked someone based on the “purity” of their blood, did they?
And the marauders, they’re actually amazing people. James GAVE HIS LIFE FOR THE CHANCE THAT VOLDEMORT WOULD LEAVE LILY AND HARRY ALONE, Sirius was willing to house Harry anytime, and Lupin tried so fucking hard to help. May i also remind you: JAMES SAVED SNAPES SORRY LIFE AND SNAPE TOLD EVERYONE ABOUT LUPIN BEING A WEREWOLF PURELY BECAUSE HIS AWARD WAS REVOKED!! Don’t forget that Peter, James, and Sirius started learning transmogrification in their 2ND YEAR purely to help their friend out. They learned something that professionals struggled for years with while being teenagers.

I am really annoyed with the idea that Slytherins are always cool, calm and unemotional. Most of the Slytherins we see are very emotional, and make a lot of important decisions based on strong emotion, and even foil themselves because they get too emotional. They’ll absolutely tear themselves apart for whatever they love, whether that’s a person or power. You have to feel strongly about something to be truly ambitious.
I MEAN JUST LOOK AT THE EXAMPLES. Someone insulted you/your family/someone you care about? Forget the snide comebacks, it’s time to SCREAM, YELL, CURSE THEM WITH BOILS. Family doesn’t approve of your boyfriend? ELOPE, it doesn’t matter whether this turns out to be a terrible decision. Boy Who Lived refuses to be your friend? OBSESS OVER HIM FOR THE NEXT SEVEN YEARS. Telepathic Dark Lord is threatening your son/childhood friend? Lie on the spot AND RISK A TORTUROUS DEATH TO DEFY HIM. Dark Lord is threatening your house elf? DRINK POISON AND THROW YOURSELF INTO A PIT OF ZOMBIES.
