Post Business Proposal, my best friend is obsessively watching Tomorrow, and because she is the BEST friend, I am watching it too, because that gives her joy.

It's not a bad show, don't get me wrong, just not what I'm in the mood for right now.

Lee Soo Hyuk's minimal screen time definitely helps, because she DOES NOT THINK HE IS INSANELY ATTRACTIVE (ma'am, even if you are blind, are you also deaf?? His VOICE?? HELLO?!?!?!) so I'm enjoying sending her specific scenes captioned solely by punctuation marks, which she responds to with unconvincing generic platitudes.

Which has resulted in there suddenly being more LSH on my dash, which is great, so win win all around.

My best friend asked why I can only hang out on Sundays

Monday/Tuesday: In Beautiful Mind, Jang Hyuk looks all set to be playing the sort of role I love him best in - the asshole-who-wasn't (i.e. he comes across as a cold hearted jerk, but we eventually see him for the softy he really is. But he’s still cold. Look it’s hard to explain, just think Wang So in Shine or Go Crazy and you’ll know what I mean).

Wednesday/Thursday: Lucky Romance throws us a midweek twofer; Ryu Jun Yeol being a puppy, and Lee Soo Hyuk being... well... also a puppy. So much squishy.

Friday/Saturday: 38 Task Force rounds up the week with Seo In Guk being a little shit.

What’s a girl to do?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You know what bugs me about Lucky Romance?

It’s not the way Lee Chung Ah says Gaewwwwryyyyyy. Although that’s a close second.

It’s the way they make her speak English on the phone because Amy is from Canada San Francisco somewhere in North America and therefore fluent in the language... but her pronunciation is nowhere close to native.

I’ve been annoyed by the same issue in other dramas, but the thing that makes this particular instance of it worse is that those phone call scenes are completely unnecessary. We really don’t need to see her talking to HQ, because she says nothing of importance to them. She could just as well text it. Or email it. Or the scene doesn’t even need to be on screen.

If on top of this, the show has her evolve into the typical conniving scheming sort of second lead I’m going to be so mad because apart from that, I’m really enjoying watching this. I love that the misunderstandings don’t drag on for unnecessarily long. The show is sweet, and fun, and let’s be real, it’s chock full of eye candy.

Although I do wish Gaewwwwryyyyyy would be consistent with his hair. That bangs-down-the-front look is not cutting it for me. Style that shit up boy.

Christmas Review #15 - White Christmas

This show probably isn’t for everyone, but I liked it. I think my absolute favourite part was the scene when Yoon Su is chasing himself in circles around his room - the soundtrack and camera work and everything was just so reminiscent of art house movies I used to love watching. I’ll admit it, I rewatched that scene a couple of times. I also love how he just perched way up there, just chilling out, for half the series.

Not to put any spoilers in, but this show is dark. If you want high school happy times, look elsewhere. It’s also kind of slow at times, I’m guessing a lot of that has to do with the conscious decision the producers made to not fill up everything with a lot of background noise. There’s a lot of quiet, which builds the whole sense of isolation, and it adds to the overall impact of the show, but it can get a bit draggy. I didn’t go so far as to fast forward scenes, but I did find myself waiting for things to happen. Which, again, is a bit like art house movies, so you know. It really depends on what you like.

It’s a great cast, although admittedly there are one or two characters that I wanted to slap upside the head, but that could just mean the actors did a great job with the role.

The only thing I didn’t quite like was the ending, but then again it’s not like I have an alternate ending in mind that I would have preferred. Would I watch it again? Probably not. I’m glad I savoured it as I watched it, because I feel like it gave me a chance to think about what was going on.

Honestly, I’m contemplating going back into my list and upping the rating I gave it, because I enjoyed it a lot more than the value below seems to indicate.

rating: 7.5/10

Celebrating tonight by marathoning all eight episodes of White Christmas. (or attempting to anyway. I might wuss out and crash)

In celebration, here’s an old still of Lee Soo Hyuk from High School King.

And a happy weekend to you too!
