Regina King plays Angela Abar — a.k.a. Sister Nightknocking and killing white supremacists  👊 ✊ 😂

The opening scene was based on a real life massacre committed by white supremacists also known as the Greenwood Massacre, or the Black Wall Street Massacre

Watchmen is set in 2019, but these opening 10 minutes depict the Tulsa, Oklahoma, race massacre of 1921. The massacre was pure malevolent violence committed on Tulsa’s “Black Wall Street,” undertaken by white citizens who killed dozens and wounded even more (exact totals are unknown) while burning black property to the ground. It is widely considered one of the most shocking acts of racial violence in American history, and it’s core to what Watchmen is saying about America today.

How serious was the White Domestic Terrorism threat during the Bush years after 9/11?

“The Secret Service took the unprecedented step of assigning Barack Obama a protective detail in May 2007, mere months into his campaign and long before candidates typically receive protection.

TL;DR:

  • Over the past decade Republicans and later Trump knew about the increase in hate crimes committed by White Supremacists Groups.
  • Instead of dealing with the National Security threat, Republicans and Trump took away funding and resources from the FBI and Homeland Security to combat Domestic Terrorism -  White Domestic Terrorism
  • After Trump took office, he ended Obama’s counterterrorism efforts and “redirected federal resources on Islamist terrorism”
  • FBI agents are reluctant to pursue white nationalist extremists because they don't want to target Trump's base, former FBI counterterrorism agent, Dave Gomez
  • “Even if there was a crackdown right now, it’s going to take years for the momentum of these groups to fade,” Daryl Johnson, a former senior analyst at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)  who is a  Conservative Republican

“White supremacy is a greater threat than international terrorism right now,” David Hickton, a former U.S. Attorney

The FBI has warned about the rising domestic threat for years, but has not had a receptive audience in the White House.  #TrumpBase   #TrumpsTerrorists
Daryl Johnson led a six-person group at DHS’ Office of Intelligence and Analysis, began working on a report about the rise of right-wing extremism.

“The Modern Militia Movement” report linked members of these militias to fundamentalist Christian, anti-abortion or anti-immigration movements.

It warned that white nationalists, antigovernment extremists and members of other far-right groups were seizing on the economic crisis and Obama’s ascension to recruit new members. Johnson was preparing to release his report when a similar study by the Missouri Information Analysis Center, meant for law-enforcement officers, was leaked to the public in February 2009.

“The report was pilloried by GOP groups and politicians for singling out conservatives as possible criminals.”  #RepublicansTerrorists

Missouri officials warned Johnson about the blowback he could expect for publishing a similar analysis. But Johnson, who describes himself as a conservative Republican, says he thought the DHS lawyers and editors who worked on the report would provide a layer of protection from GOP criticism. “I didn’t think the whole Republican Party would basically throw a hissy fit,” he recalls.

Stats:

  • From 2009 through 2018, the far right has been responsible for 73% of domestic extremist-related fatalities, according to a 2019 study by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
  • More people–49–were murdered by far-right extremists in the U.S. last year than in any other year since the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress in July that a majority of the bureau’s domestic-terrorism investigations since October were linked to white supremacy.

“Over the past decade, multiple attempts to refocus federal resources on the issue have been thwarted. Entire offices meant to coordinate an interagency response to right-wing extremism were funded, staffed and then defunded in the face of legal, constitutional and political concerns.”  #WhitePrivilege

Today, FBI officials say just 20% of the bureau’s counterterrorism field agents are focused on domestic probes. This year alone, those agents’ caseload has included an investigation into an Ohio militia allegedly stockpiling explosives to build pipe bombs; a self-professed white-supremacist Coast Guard officer who amassed an arsenal in his apartment in the greater Washington, D.C., area; an attack in April at a synagogue outside San Diego that killed one; and the July 28 assault at a garlic festival in Gilroy, Calif., that killed three. Cesar Sayoc, a 57-year-old man from Florida, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Aug. 5 after pleading guilty to mailing 16 pipe bombs to Democrats and critics of President Donald Trump.

“Then there is the problem of a Commander in Chief whose rhetoric appears to mirror, validate and potentially inspire that of far-right extremists.”

🩸 NRA praised the 10 bills as “protecting your Second Amendment rights”  #RepublicansCOMPLICIT  🩸

A west Texas shooting rampage that killed five people on Saturday may have renewed calls for gun control, but a package of laws set to take effect in the state just a day after the carnage will actually loosen gun restrictions.

From CNN

The new laws were passed in August and will go into effect Sunday, September 1.
Among the new laws:
  • House Bill 1143 says a school district cannot prohibit licensed gun owners, including school employees, from storing a firearm or ammunition in a locked vehicle on a school parking lot -- provided they are not in plain view.
  • Senate Bill 535 clarifies the possession of firearms at churches, synagogues or other places of worship. It allows licensed handgun owners to legally carry their weapons in places of worship.
  • House Bill 1387 loosens restrictions on how many armed school marshals a school district can appoint.
  • House Bill 302 bans homeowners or landlords of rental property from prohibiting residents from lawfully possessing, carrying, transporting or storing a firearm or ammunition on the property.
  • House Bill 1177 prohibits residents from being charged with a crime for carrying a handgun while evacuating from a state or local disaster area.
  • House Bill 2363 allows some foster homes to store firearms and ammunition in a safe, locked and secure place for personal protection.

In today’s edition of “Accuse Them Of That Which You Yourself Are Guilty,” or ATOTWYYAG, as it’s commonly known by pretty much only me, we have proof positive that Right-Wing conservative “journalist” Andy Ngo is absolutely cool with Nazis.
While whining about Antifa on Fox News, Ngo argues to have Antifa designated a terror organization, and masks outlawed if used in the commission of a crime. (How would that work, exactly?) He is more troubled by the existence of a small, splinter group that establishes a presence at Proud Boys and Neo-Nazi rallies to resist fascism and protect those who peacefully protest than he is actual fascism and Nazi ideology.
Now we have audio directly connecting Andy Ngo with the Proud Boys from the Portland Hate-fest last August. From Willamette Week:
What they said: A large man in a Proud Boys shirt says the June 29 assault on Ngo happened because he ignored Proud Boys’ offer of protection. “Andy Ngo was fucking told that if he wanted protection from the PBs [Proud Boys], he went in with us and he went out with us,” he says.
Why it matters: Ngo has claimed to be an independent journalist. It is increasingly clear he is coordinating his movements and his message with right-wing groups. On Aug. 26, The Portland Mercury published an allegation by a Vancouver infiltrator of the right-wing group Patriot Prayer. “There’s an understanding,” the man told the Mercury, “that Patriot Prayer protects him and he protects them.” Ngo could not be reached for comment.
Media needs to stop treating these fascists and white supremacists as if they are legitimate sources of information. The do not deserve an outlet. Their views are not expressed in good faith. Their information is bogus.

Spoiler alert for white supremacist sympathizer Andy “Banana” Ngo.

Listen to what Jared Taylor, a leading figure in the white supremacist movement, says to Eddie Huang about Trump and anyone who isn’t white — including Asians. The full interview is on Vice.
