Proof Republican men hate women and children. They know how to make them but nothing about what’s involved in raising them. #Nannies #BoardingSchool

Rubio’s “conservative approach” bill would create a mechanism for new parents to receive income for up to 12 weeks from their own Social Security. In exchange, they would have to delay retirement to make up for drawing on the fund for the leave.

“Robbing your future self to help your present self scrape by is hardly a benefit, especially in a country where old age is a leading driver of poverty.”

Andrea Flynn, a fellow at the left-leaning Roosevelt Institute, says, “This proposal would force women to choose between leave and retirement security. And we already know women’s retirement is much more precarious than men’s.” She notes that women on average have $3,000 less in retirement income per year than men, and it’s even worse for women of color. The plan could also be a threat to Social Security itself, since the program is many Americans’ sole source of retirement income.

Vote out Republicans and wait for Gillibrand’s bill

The success of comprehensive paid-leave plans with sustainable funding at the state level (seven states and counting) and the growing number of sponsors on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s FAMILY Act make it likely to pass if Democrats get back even a modest majority in Congress.

Republicans, what’s next? Lowering the legal working age so kids can make up the difference, so their mom’s can retire?

During the RNC, Ivanka Trump took the stage in Cleveland to espouse her father’s commitment to supporting working mothers, and then affirming her own belief in the importance of “policies that allow women with children to thrive.” Ironically, a recent investigation by the Washington Post alleged that employees at the company responsible for designing Ivanka Trump’s own fashion line do not get even “a single day of paid maternity leave.“ This shouldn’t come as a surprise though.

The Trump Family helping to Make America Great Again ... by hiring nannies

But, as the Post uncovered, the G-III Apparel Group, a brand licensing partner not run by Trump herself, but is contracted by the Ivanka Trump Brand to design and distribute her apparel line, offers no paid maternity leave for new parents, according to "past and current employees" who spoke to the Post.
It's perhaps not surprising that the G-III Apparel Group, which is based in New York, doesn't offer paid maternity leave — the United States does not require paid parental leave by law, and, despite a small increase, from 2011 to 2015, in the number of U.S. workers taking paid parental leave, many families have no options when it comes to caring for new additions.

...

In July, Sammy Aaron, vice chairman of G-III, told Forbes that Trump is “very involved on a weekly basis” in the design process. Yet, the company’s policy breaks from Trump’s public stance on how businesses should support working moms.

This exception is not to be confused with exceptionalism ;)

A Map of Maternity Leave Policies Around the World
If you're a woman working in the United States and your employer provides paid maternity leave, consider yourself lucky: Just 11 percent of Americans employed by private industry have access to some sort of paid family leave. For state and government employees, 16 percent can take paid family leave. The U.S. federal government provides no paid family leave to its employees, though they can use their sick days or vacation days that they've saved up.
