Kennedy says he's done making a fool of himself.
— Claude Taylor @TrueFactsStated
CNN:
Kennedy then implored an elevator operator to help him escape the reporters and seemed to acknowledge that his shifting Ukraine views -- disputed by many other GOP senators but backed by President Donald Trump -- had hurt him.
"Ma'am, can you help me here," Kennedy called out. "These people are trying to kill me and hurt me the entire time that I'm dying."
As he finally climbed aboard the "Senators Only" elevator, he bumped directly into Sen. Mitt Romney, a Republican from Utah, who moments earlier had told many of the same reporters that he strongly disagrees with Kennedy that Ukraine interfered in the US elections.
Reporters had pressed Romney to directly criticize his fellow Republican but he declined to take their offer.
Cabrón John Neely Kennedy and Putin Republicans
Republicans biggest problem is Trump himself. ☑️ #GOPExtinction
Trump "viewed the campaigns he had weighed in on mostly as opportunities for gratification.” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
“If you had any doubt that Trump was a human repellent spray for suburban voters who have a conservative disposition, Republicans getting wiped out in the suburbs of New Orleans, Louisville and Lexington should remove it,” Tim Miller, Republican strategist
Trump also pleaded with Kentucky, 'You can't let that happen to me!' 😂
“You got to give me a big win, please, O.K.,” the president pleaded with a red-hatted crowd last Thursday in Bossier City, La.
But on Saturday night, Mr. Trump’s wager backfired in spectacular fashion.
Not only did Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, win re-election by more than 40,000 votes, he did so with the same coalition that propelled Governor-elect Andy Beshear to victory in Kentucky and that could put the president’s re-election chances in grave jeopardy next year.
Like Mr. Beshear, Mr. Edwards energized a combination of African-Americans and moderate whites in and around the urban centers of his state, building decisive margins in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport.
While turnout grew modestly in many of the rural areas, it jumped by 29 percent in New Orleans and 25 percent in the parish that includes Shreveport, and it was nearly as high in Baton Rouge and in the largest New Orleans suburbs.
Kushner is Trump’s right hand.
Mulvaney, Pence, Pompeo, Mnuchin... are just figure head minions.
And with few seasoned political advisers in his inner circle — his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who has control over the president’s campaign, has never worked on another race — there was nobody to tell him that attacking an anti-abortion rights, pro-gun Democrat like Mr. Edwards as a radical would be folly.
“a wave of state and local Democratic victories in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Missouri that also were driven by suburban voters.”
Good riddance Charles Rispoli and Angelo Varisco.
Officer Charles Rispoli wrote in the post last week that the progressive freshman is a "vile idiot" who "needs a round ... and I don't mean the kind she used to serve," an apparent reference to Ocasio-Cortez's former job as a bartender.
Gretna Police Chief Arthur Lawson told reporters Monday that Rispoli -- along with Officer Angelo Varisco, who "liked" the post -- had been fired."This incident, we feel, has been an embarrassment to our department," he said.
Trump supporters can’t distinguish real news from fake news. Remember how Republicans went crazy over #PizzaGate.
Republicans, this is why Education Matters!
Rispoli's Facebook post was in response to a satirical article that featured Ocasio-Cortez saying, "We pay soldiers too much" -- something the congresswoman hasn't said. It's unclear whether Rispoli knew he was responding to a satirical article.
The police chief also added: "I mean this wasn't even a real news article."

"This is Trump's goal when he uses targeted language & threatens elected officials who don't agree w/ his political agenda. It's authoritarian behavior," she tweeted Monday. "The President is sowing violence. He's creating an environment where people can get hurt & he claims plausible deniability."
Under Trump — threats against Congress members breaks records.
"For FY 2018, we had approximately 4,894 cases. So far for this year, we have 2,502 cases. So we're on par to probably break last year's record."
— Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund said in a hearing before the House Administration Committee
By a 5-4 vote, the court said the restrictions must remain on hold while challengers appeal a lower court decision in favor of the law. Chief Justice John Roberts voted with the court’s liberal members.
It was the Supreme Court’s first significant action on the hot-button issue of abortion since Donald Trump’s nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, replaced Anthony Kennedy, who generally voted with the court’s liberals to uphold abortion rights.
In Thursday’s ruling, Kavanaugh voted with the [Republicans] — Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch.
Kavanaugh filed a dissent, writing only for himself. He said he would have allowed the law to take effect in order to see whether it would impose a burden on women’s access to abortion in the state.
Abortion-rights advocates applauded the court ruling, while opponents expressed disappointment…
The high court’s decision Thursday was not a ruling on the legal merits of the Louisiana restriction. But the decision to keep the law on hold signals that a majority of the justices have doubts about its constitutionality.
Passed by the state legislature in 2014, the measure requires any doctor offering abortion services to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles. Two Louisiana doctors and a clinic filed a legal challenge, arguing that it was identical to a Texas law the Supreme Court struck down in 2016.
Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that John FUCKING Roberts just saved abortion rights in Louisiana, but I’m certainly not complaining…

Are Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, and Georgia using their free federal money to buy Tiki Torches, automatic weapons and dry clean their klan outfits???
A recent study by the Pew Charitable Trust Fund found that the states which voted against President Obama in both elections are actually the biggest beneficiaries of the socialistic system of which they seem to be so terrified.
"Pew Charitable Trust Fund found that the states which take the most include Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, and Georgia. Like Mississippi, more than 40 percent of the budget in Louisiana is made up of federal dollars. The other states rely on federal funds for more than 30 percent of their budgets.“

Sarah Silverman Deconstructs Late Night Form and Adds a Big Heart in “I Love You, America”
The traditional form of late night is so well established these days, parodying it is getting to be an old move as well.
Still, there’s room for reinvention as Sarah Silverman has shown in premiere of her new series I Love You, America. Right in the series premiere opening, she prefaces how different the show might be (case in point full frontal nudity in the first few minutes of the show) and even offers up a satirical sidekick of a white man at a desk a la most late night talk shows.
Aside from Silverman’s brand of humor that she has rode to success, Silverman leans in to her more genuine persona (something she has been slowly doing over the last couple of years) by actually having heart-to-heart conversations with a Trump voter family over dinner and a former Westboro Baptist Church member in her very living room style studio.
As she had warned, they may not be getting dozens of laughs per minute, but they are engaging and fascinating (and maybe succeeding in territory attempted by a show like Brand X with Russell Brand).
It’s the first episode, so we’ll have to see how I Love You, America progresses, but it is refreshing to Sarah really embody the heart in the title of her show.

Jimmy Kimmel: “Bill Cassidy just lied right to my face”
“I don’t know what happened to Bill Cassidy. But when he was on this publicity tour, he listed his demands for a health-care bill very clearly. These were his words. He said he wants coverage for all, no discrimination based on preexisting conditions, lower premiums for middle-class families and no lifetime caps. Guess what? The new bill does none of those things.”
“We want quality, affordable health care. Dozens of other countries figured it out. So instead of jamming this horrible bill down our throats, go pitch in and be a part of that. I’m sure they could use a guy with your medical background. And if not, stop using my name, O.K.? Because I don’t want my name on it. There’s a new Jimmy Kimmel test for you. It’s called the lie detector test. You’re welcome to stop by the studio and take it anytime.”

The Federal Emergency Management Agency proposed regulations Monday that would require companies and homeowners using federal funds on construction projects in flood-prone areas to build on higher ground—2 feet higher, in many cases.
The regulations stem from an executive order signed by PresidentBarack Obama in January 2015. The order requires a new flood-protection standard for infrastructure projects that use federal money and is part of the administration’s broader agenda to addressclimate change.
“This is ensuring that when federal investments are made we will rebuild higher and stronger,” Roy Wright, deputy associate administrator for insurance and mitigation with FEMA, said from Baton Rouge, La., where he was helping oversee the agency’s response to recent historic flooding that has killed 13 and displaced thousands.
Mr. Wright called the regulations the most significant flood-protection action a president has taken since Jimmy Carter.
How stupid a world, where FEMA mandates building at least 2 feet above the 100 year flood line, and people start howling, despite recent massive floods in Texas and Louisiana, not to mention Katrina and Sandy.
GOP clowns who deplore big government – which is who has to pay the insurance for these flooded homes and businesses – are yelling about regulations and government overreach. Idiots.
This is why: Facts Matter. Education Matters. Intelligence Matters. Living Matters
The Facts and Politics of the Louisiana Flood Disaster
Facts Matter!
The President today declared a major disaster exists in the State of Louisiana and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms and flooding beginning on August 11, 2016, and continuing.
The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in the parishes of East Baton Rouge, Livingston, St. Helena, and Tangipahoa.
Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
Federal funding also is available to the state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work as a result of the flooding in the parishes of East Baton Rouge, Livingston, St. Helena, and Tangipahoa.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
...
FEMA said that residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated parishes can begin applying for assistance tomorrow by registering online athttp://www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
FOR FURTHER INFORMATION MEDIA SHOULD CONTACT: FEMA NEWS DESK AT (202) 646-3272 OR [email protected].
So many contradictions!
The optics of Obama golfing while Louisiana residents languished in flood waters was striking. It evoked the precedent of the passive federal response to the state’s agony in 2005, a chapter of history no one should ever repeat.
The president acted prudently in officially declaring a disaster for the flooded part of the state, a key step in advancing federal aid. We’ve been heartened so far by the active involvement of Craig Fugate, head of Federal Emergency Management Agency, a far cry from FEMA’s hapless Michael Brown in the days after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was slated to visit Louisiana today to assess the damage.
But a disaster this big begs for the personal presence of the president at ground zero. In coming here, the president can decisively demonstrate that Louisiana’s recovery is a priority for his administration – and the United States of America.
The president’s vacation is scheduled to wrap up on Sunday. But he should pack his bags now, and pay a call on communities who need to know that in a national catastrophe, they are not alone.
...
"Sometimes, presidential visits can get in the way of emergency response, doing more harm than good. But we don't see that as a factor now that flood waters are subsiding, even if at an agonizing pace. It's past time for the president to pay a personal visit, showing his solidarity with suffering Americans."
President Barack Obama has received criticism for staying on vacation rather than traveling to Louisiana to see the damage first-hand.
But Edwards said Thursday that he's spoken with the White House daily and has received quick responses for each request he's made to the administration. He noted that FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate visited the state Tuesday and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was in-state Thursday.
Edwards said he is "not complaining in any way about our federal partnership."
“Alright, y’all,” wrote Baton Rouge resident Neva Butkus, “I need to clear some things up.”
Butkus — a Chicago native who has worked with the City Year teaching program — said that she “has spent this entire week running donation centers, organizing volunteer efforts, and will be doing demo work on houses all this weekend.”
She wrote, “Our Governor has explicitly asked Obama to NOT VISIT at this moment because our first responders are STILL saving people’s lives. YES, It has been a week and there is still standing water. Tens of thousands of people are displaced. This is a NIGHTMARE and our governor does not want to shut down interstates that are BRINGING IN SUPPLIES just to escort our President into the city.”
She went on to say that Donald Trump’s visit was not welcomed by any residents she knows because it tied up precious resources that could be used in rescue and relief efforts.
“He is exploiting an opportunity to look as if he is welcomed during a tragedy,” she said.
“Our Governor literally told him (as this article shows) that Trump is welcome in our state but if he’s coming he better be volunteering or writing a sizable check to assist with recovery,” continued Butkus. “A 60 second video of him unloading play-doh from a truck does not count.”
Finally, she demanded, “Trump. Seriously. Where is the check. Like where is the fucking check. My people are drowning. My co-workers and family and friends have lost everything. My friends and co-workers that haven’t lost everything are taking off work (my boyfriend is taking PTO) to clean out people’s homes and rip out sheet rock and carpet. Give us money or GTFO. I don’t want to see you in your suit in AUGUST carrying boxes off a truck like you care about us. Louisiana is an incredible place. Baton Rouge is my home and I have watched people drop EVERYTHING to help one another during this time. The whole country seems to be floored by the generosity and love that our residents show each other during tough times, but to us this is normal. This is Louisiana. And you do not belong here.”
