👏 👏 👏 @Nike ❤️ @Kaepernick7

“Companies and brands often attempt to avoid taking strong public positions out of fear of alienating customers, but Nike is running straight into the political fray.“

Kaepernick will be one of the faces of Nike's 30th anniversary commemoration of its iconic "Just Do It" slogan. The campaign will also feature athletes such as Serena Williams, NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and Shaquem Griffin, a rookie linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks whose left hand was amputated when he was a child.

The ones who need knee pads are Mike Huckabee, his daughter Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the Republican Congress. They’ve been on their knees since 2015 peddling their FAKE values while “servicing” Trump #RacistInChief #HouseOfLies

The company also drew fire from Fox Sports Radio host Clay Travis, who called the Kaepernick campaign "pathetic," and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who tweeted, "I guess @Nike will now focus on making knee pads for NFL."

As Kap’s message has now been distorted, co-opted and used to further divide us along the very racial lines he was highlighting, we as players have a responsibility to come together and respond collectively.
So here’s my idea:
Let’s open up a line of communication just between us, and be ready to respond with one voice as players. Let’s transcend the “natural” divisions that have been defined by the league and sanitized by a fictional narrative of competition above all else.

❤ This needs to be posterized

"Taking a knee at an NFL game was never about the flag or the military. That's what the president wants you to believe. It gives his insulting 'sons of bitches' comment cover. A comment that not only insults hardworking professional men, but tries to drag their mothers down to his level, as well. Taking a knee is a constitutionally protected expression. It falls within league rules. Period. If anyone actually believes this is about the flag, then you must believe Rosa Parks' protest was about a bus."
"Here's what this is about. It's about focusing attention on racial injustice. It's about challenging our country to extend the promise of that flag to all citizens, including the citizens whose ancestors were slaves. You may not agree with Colin Kaepernick or the scores of players who take a knee or took a knee this weekend, and that is OK. You don't have to agree with them. But that's not really the point here. No American gets to tell another American how to express their love for this country."

[Colin Kaepernick]’s one of the brightest, most articulate and committed people that I have ever come across. I knew Muhammad Ali. I most certainly worked with [John] Carlos and [Tommie] Smith. Bill Russell, Jim Brown, some of these people from the 1960s, Arthur Ashe—I put him in that class… I personally am pushing him for a Nobel Peace Prize nomination, even if he doesn’t get it, because I think he’s going to have that impact as we look back 20 years from now, 30 years from now. And I think it should be recognized.

Dr. Harry Edwards on why he thinks football player Colin Kaepernick should be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Read the full interview here.  (via democracynow)

Trump would go mentally ballistic if Kaepernick was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize #TakeAKnee #BLM #RacialJustice #SocialJustice

“Kaepernick had achieved something that Barack Obama and all the nation’s activists and prominent black voices had not. He had ignited a discussion that had been missing for generations.”

“The discourse might not be civil. It probably isn’t reasoned or rational. But it’s discourse. And, really, that’s the reason Kaepernick took his knee.”

As a 39-year military veteran, I think I know something about the flag, the anthem, patriotism, and I think I know why we fight. It’s not to allow the president to divide us by wrapping himself in the national banner. I never imagined myself saying this before Friday, but if now forced to choose in this dispute, put me down with Kaepernick.

Tracking the Colin Kaepernick Effect #TakeAKnee

ThinkProgress tracked the protests that spread across the country. The following tweets are from Lindsay Gibbs -  Sep 26 2017

1. It's been 13 months since Kaepernick's protest first made headlines. Today, TP launches database of the movement: https://thinkprogress.org/kaepernick-effect-database-b2f50ca7277f/ …
2. This database is interactive and searchable. There is a form to alert us to protests we've missed. #takeaknee
3. Thanks to @ofosuuu, we were able to visualize the data and see how the Kaepernick effect spread. #takeaknee https://thinkprogress.org/inside-our-sports-protest-tracking-3f35187ef670/ …
4.The protest morphed as it spread to high schools and colleges and youth groups. It morphed post-Trump. #takeaknee
7. The scope of what Kaepernick inspired gets lost in the trivial debates -- over 3,500 people in over 200 protests.
8. Because of @Kaepernick7, students all over the country are having tough talks about police brutality and racism. https://thinkprogress.org/kaepernick-effect-database-b2f50ca7277f/ …
