When talking about functional programming languages, there tends to be a few flavors: Haskell and Lisp, with plenty of debate over which is better. Although they are both functional languages, they are in fact quite different, each with their own trade-offs. By the end of this article, I hope you have a better idea of what those are. Both have their share of descendant languages as well. Two such languages that you may have heard of are Elm and Clojurescript, both of which compile into JavaScript. But before I get into the specifics of each language, my real goal is to instill in you some of the core concepts and patterns behind functional programming.
