Seeing people say that The Substance was bad because Elizabeth and Sue kept taking out their frustration on eachother rather than on the true source of their problems (Harvey).
You're missing the point. It's not a revenge story. It's a movie about violence against the self. It's a movie about how fucked up it is that people internalize so much self-hatred that they literally despise the person they see in the mirror and will enact horrible violence on themselves.
Just saw it last night and DAMN, as a woman I've never seen self-hatred and loathing portrayed so poignantly before in my life. I felt seen, and I think a lot of other people felt it as well.
It is hard to love yourself even on good days. It is really easy to hate yourself every day. This movie really highlighted that for me.
I was typing an entire post about food issues and why I don't like wet food, until I remembered that unlike in Dutch, 'wet food' has a specific meaning in English. Just straight up deleted everything bc all I could see myself as was
