Fun Fact: in one month, all Sherlock Holmes stories hit the public domain and the Conan Doyle Estate can't do shit! I say this for absolutely no reason but also congrats in advance to the happy couple.

sherlock isn't simply a mean asshole, a major point of the show is that he's a well-intentioned and vulnerable weirdo who's doing his best. he's a lonely recovering addict with a long history of being hated on sight because he's gay and autistic, and his sense of what's appropriate to say out loud is iffy, so sometimes his best is shit. but the whole story is about him reconciling his learned fear of vulnerability with his desire to help people and be loved. if you're only capable of interpreting that as "rude, brooding antihero" I really think that's not the show's fault
