A little smth i drew in class inspired by the latest chapter. My boy twice, i miss you

So here’s my thoughts on the current state of My Hero Academia and Shigaraki and why:

First of all, I have never read a story where I completely fell for the villain and they ended up being my favorite-NEVER. This tells me that Horikoshi’s writing of Shiggy just hit different with me, I’m always siding with the good guys. Obviously this is different, for me personally. So with that being said I want Shiggy to have a satisfying ending-whether that be redemption, saving, escaping, whatever, I want a good ending for Shig. He is not your typical villain who is power hungry for the sake of it, THAT villain is AFO. Currently we know Shiggy is breaking away from AFO, as he tried to decay him in that spirit world place. Shiggy is not going to change his ideals and beliefs, and he SHOULDN’T.

We know Horikoshi said he thinks Shigaraki is too far to turn back, but he said this after saying that he is a villain that SHOULD be saved. Then he said he doesn’t want to give too many details to “dampen our imagination”. This tells me he has something wild in store- meaning it’s not just going to be the typical “kill the villain and everything is okay now”. No, that’s not imaginative in the slightest, and I don’t see an easy redemption either, because that’s not very imaginative either. I see something unexpected, and I can’t even imagine what it’ll be! But people keep misquoting his interview saying that he SAID Shiggy is never going to see the other side, never be saved, and that’s just not what Horikoshi said-so there’s that. We don’t know what he has in store. We also know that we definitely have not seen the last of Nana and Shiggy interacting. We ALSO know that All Might STILL has every intention on seeing Shig and speaking to him, or something. We know All Might no longer wants Shiggy to disappear from the earth, and that’s important and has still yet to be written.

A theory I have on what COULD happen, obviously not so sure- Eri. Eri and Shig are similar in that they both have dangerous unique quirks, and both killed their families, both were abused and traumatized. Eri got saved early on though, Shig didn’t. Eri’s power is currently “in training” so she can learn to control it. There’s no way it doesn’t play some role in the end game of this series. I am guessing (and hoping) that she uses her rewind somehow on Shig. People speculate that we will see Tenko Shimura again and I think they’re right, possibly, and if it were to happen Eri would be the reason it did. There is soooo much to be written out about Shiggy and everyone around him that wants to talk to him-Deku also. Deku tried to save him, and there’s speculation that based on AFO’s rant about the “restless souls” within him from his stolen quirks that Deku can feel the feelings of the past users of OFA. Someone pointed out that if this is true then he can feel Nana’s feelings toward Shig. And Nana had NO feelings toward Shig until chapter 287 when she met him, so now she knows and there’s no telling WHAT all she is feeling.

Anyway, I want Shig to live, see the other side, and be okay. I’m biased though because he’s my absolute favorite, which is unusual for me to pick the villain as I usually HATE the villains in stories because they’re always so pointlessly evil and power hungry.

Half-baked theory time!!!! :D

Aight so I was reading chapter 277 again and I had a thought. This may mean absolutely nothing but Hori typically puts thought into small details so why not run with it

Basically, the way Shigaraki’s eyes are drawn indicate if it’s him or AFO in his head. No pupils=AFO and “normal”=Shig

This is what I think happens in ch277:

First, AFO takes over for a second and Shig’s eyes have no pupils

Surprised by this, Shigaraki abruptly takes control again, and his eyes return to normal

Then- and this is where I get kind of confused- Shigaraki’s pupil and then his whole eye fill with these little cracks that look a little bit like Decay. I’m inclined to believe that this is Shigaraki asserting control over his mind (his narration seems to support that, he’s basically saying “haha bitch u thought >:D”). If you look closely, the far left panel of Shigaraki’s eye is extremely similar to the background of the panel where Shigaraki “decays” phantom AFO- they have the same cracks in the corners. So yeah, I’m gonna say with more certainty that it’s Shigaraki taking full control again. I think this particular bit of eye craziness is meant to act as a little window into Shigaraki’s mind/Shig literally going into his own mind for a hot sec, not symbolize AFO trying to possess Shig again. “No pupils=AFO” is still plausible. Yay.

And Shigaraki’s visible eye is back to normal after that little foray into his dreamscape (notice the backgrounds).

But then when Shig goes after Deku, his eyes are mismatched. We know that AFO kind of has a thing about getting OFA back, and seeing Deku alone and vulnerable might have been enough to reawaken the fragment of AFO in Shigaraki’s mind. One blank eye, one normal. It’s ambiguous who’s in charge.

I could be very wrong, but I think this panel is meant to tell us that AFO is still very much present within Shigaraki. As long as Shig has AFO the quirk, he can’t really get rid of AFO the guy. Unfortunately for everyone, AFO the guy is nowhere near done with Shig. I’m expecting more possession angst in the future

The above panel could also just be a shading thing though. Who knows. I guess I’ll see if I’m right when the next chapter with Shig comes out whenever that is
