“You’re okay?” relief seeps through in her voice, even as she asks the question, because she’s seen him in far worse states of aliveness: eyes glazed over, shallow breathing, unresponsive, covered in his own blood. But this time, he’s looking straight at her, and there’s a weary but soft grin on his face. He reaches his arm up, the material of his gloves all but vaporized (again), and she cradles his hand as it meets her face to wipe away tears.
“I’m okay,” he puffs out, partially from laughter and partially from exhaustion.
"It’s not funny, I don’t know any boyfriends who make their girlfriends cry as much as you do,“ she defends, "Weren’t you the one who was always crying when we were at UA? What happened to that?!"
Out of the corner of his eyes he can spot the paramedics rushing over to prod him, and knows time’s about up on their exchange.
"Guess I rubbed off on you, huh?”
the broken glass was, in fact, an afterthought
