Alien hand syndrome (AHS) or Dr. Strangelove syndrome is a category of conditions in which a person experiences their limbs acting seemingly on their own, without conscious control over the actions[...]The affected person may sometimes reach for objects and manipulate them without wanting to do so, even to the point of having to use the controllable hand to restrain the alien hand. Alien hand syndrome is best documented in cases where a person has had the two hemispheres of their brain surgically separated [...]It also occurs in some cases after brain surgery[...]Other areas of the brain that are associated with alien hand syndrome are the frontal, occipital, and parietal lobes.

experimented a bit with digital painting/lineless art for this! what if after having the metal plate installed, ford got a bout of this and was terrified that the surgery backfired and trapped a little piece of bill in him forever? :D

Victor Frankenstein experienced misogyny

You might think this is a joke but it's not. That happened in the book. He's like repeatedly dismissed as hysterical when he tries to warn people about the creature & then the creature gets them. You know who this is always happening to? Women.

I don't necessarily headcanon Victor Frankenstein as trans, in any particular direction, but there is something undeniably gendery afoot. The themes of it all. Why are you as a man giving birth

To be so fr though people have a tendency to point out he was written by a woman & while it's 1000% true that Mary Shelley's personal experiences definitely heavily contributed to the narrative in frankenstein & Victor's character in particular, there's a certain Way people say it that kind of implies that she did that, like, by accident? Which feels weird to me. Yes the original manuscript was done in a couple days but she revised it several times, with a level of skill that suggests she Knew What She's Doing. And I honestly find it insulting to suggest that she simply didn't know how to write a man realistically. Especially when there are other male characters in frankenstein who aren't, yknow... filling a very classically feminine literary role. It's Just Victor who's Like That

[ID: a reply from @moob-knight that reads, "my pov on it has always been that she wrote him Like That so that ppl would be upset about his treatment in a way they wouldn't have been if the same things happened to a woman. sort of like shelley doing a 'yeah this fucking sucks doesn't it? doesn't it?? u get it now???' like Fuck yes it was purposeful" /end ID]

Right literally. Victor is a man for the same reason why women would usually publish under a man's name

  1. The author's poorly disguised fetish
  2. The author's proudly displayed fetish
  3. The author's fetish you're pretty sure they don't realise they have
  4. The author's fetish which they're firmly convinced everyone has and is just pretending otherwise
  5. The author's non-sexual special interest which just sounds like a fetish because of their habitually unfortunate phrasing
  6. The fetish the author is making a well-meaning effort to cater to in spite of clearly not understanding it themselves
  7. The author's fetish that never quite makes it into the text because they keep getting sidetracked by the requisite worldbuilding
  8. The author's utterly pedestrian sexual preference which the text treats like a bizarre fetish because they've got shit to work through
  9. The author's seemingly innocuous recurring trope they're going to have a personal revelation about ten years down the road
  10. The author's fetish you missed on a first reading because it's so far out of pocket, it never occurred to you that you could sexualise that

This is going to fucking suck but I will not do my enemies’ work for them. I will not just roll over and fucking die.

We’re going into an era that demands intelligence and courage and compassion. Bring all three to the table when you engage with your community, and DO engage with your community. It’s past time to take off the kid gloves when it comes to protecting our most vulnerable members, and people on here tend to be the sort that are willing to do that. Be tactical and safe in your efforts going forward, and stand with imperfect allies even when you’d rather not. If someone isn’t as far left as you’d like, still watch their back and buy time for them to do the same for you — leftist infighting has cost us so goddamn much already.

Intelligence. Courage. Compassion.

If you aren't sure you can bring enough intelligence or enough courage to the table, then focus on bringing compassion; it's the least intimidating of the three skills to build up, and EVERYONE benefits from expressions of it.

The demonization of actual charities/orgs in favor of individual GFMs has done nothing but stripped marginalized people of their privacy + dignity by forcing them to become internet celebrities in order to get their needs met as opposed to an org that could privately help them if said org had the funding!!!! Also it’s why people feel the need to go as far as to fake their own kidnappings just to get traction! Not to mention it’s just made the lives of grifters so much easier

To circle back, who benefits more from this? The 65 year old drug addicted woman on skid row who can’t read or the young hot gen z college kid with 10k tiktok followers? This bastardization of “mutual aid” combined the constant like mining dopamine cycle social media has done almost irreparable damage to young wokey people especially young people of color.

Making every poor person dance for the internet in order to get their snazzy twitter begging flyer traction will only set people up for long term failure.

Imagine: I’m a young person down on her luck so I beg on twitter with my real name and face along with every personal detail, I get my coin, I am actually able to put myself through schooling but now whenever an employer googles me they can find this incredibly personal information about me!

I have nothing but sympathy for people who are in a position where they urgently need money and need it fast but we should instead put that money towards orgs whose whole job is to PRIVATELY help people

My guy you have entirely missed the point of my post and there are multiple ways to vet a charity

if you are worried about charities spending your money they do actually have to share their accounts publicly in most jurisdictions.

I’m not reading more of the article because I need to stop myself from going insane.

Trump appeals to men’s victim complexes, plain and simple. They’re the biggest babies with the tiniest dicks who can’t stand women even talking about men treating them badly. Women spent the whole campaign talking about being forced to give birth and being medically tortured via abortion bans, and men went “screaming and crying and throwing up WHAT ABOUT ME????? WHAT ABOUT MY FEELINGS???? DADDY TRUMP LISTENS TO ME!!!!”

Fuck men and their feelings 🤷‍♀️ Women are told we’re second class citizens all the time by men, but waahhhhhhhh men feel big uncomfy wahhhhhh

fiddleford mcgucket and things that go bump in the night

i understand why people like to explore scenarios in art/fic where fiddleford is aware of bill and has face-offs with him while he's in ford's body, or he works with stanley to try and get ford back post-portal incident, but to me personally? nothing beats the canon scenario where he is left entirely in the dark. because it's so horrifying.

you know the principle of horror that the monster is much scarier when it stays in the shadows than when it's revealed, usually towards the end of a story, because until then, it's left to the depths of your imagination to fill in the blanks? fiddleford chooses to not investigate those shadows, and even further enshrouds what he fears in darkness, because he's too scared of what he might uncover. he's the child who refuses to check for the monster under the bed and instead stays awake all night under the covers frozen in terror. that's the appeal of his character to me.

canonically, he doesn't know bill or stan exist. because ford refused to even trust his best friend with the knowledge of his muse, or anything about his past, even the fact that he has a twin. he actively hides childhood photos of him and stan from fiddleford. presumably, in college he kept all their conversations strictly to their interests and passions.

can you blame fiddleford for becoming infatuated with the guy? a talented, bright, yet mysterious individual. he probably longed to slowly break down those walls and gain his trust, learn more about this man who has made an effort to be unknowable. happily offered up stories of his own life back in tennessee, his family and aspirations, and prayed one day ford would do a little of the same. but he respected him too much to pry.

and then, when they reunite, he slowly notices his dear friend acts a little Off sometimes. unnatural. but how well does he really know him anyway? surely he speculates about the life ford is hiding from him, people he may be talking to, mental afflictions he may have, but he can't pin down anything due to how left in the dark he is, and his own fear of asking too many questions and overstepping boundaries. so he can only suspect. ultimately all he knows is there is some sort of evil afoot, and the machine him and ford are building will bring it about. all he has to go off of is his calculations and a vague dread.

until he starts making the choice to forget, which may be a little easier since there's already so much he knows he doesn't know. what's the harm in losing a bit more, especially stuff that is causing him pain?

and so he starts to lose his mind in turn, and he can feel it as it's happening. he knows he can't trust his deteriorating memories. but he can't stop because of the mechanisms of addiction.

and maybe one day, before everything is entirely gone, he's made aware that stanford pines, his ex-friend, has converted his lab into a tourist attraction. not one fiddleford can afford to attend with his increasing reliance on dumpster diving and beggaring to get by, mind you. but perhaps he gets a glance at the proprietor, this man claiming to be stanford pines, and feels that old sense of wrongness in his gut.

he's pretty sure that's ford's face, but something's off about it. and his hands. something's wrong with his hands. didn't ford have something with his hands? fiddleford didn't notice it at first in college until ford pointed it out because he's mighty insecure about it, but he's forgotten what it was. but honestly, how much of his own fragmented memories can he even trust?

he feels a shiver down his spine. perhaps it's best to forget about stanford pines altogether.
