I missed the unfolding of the second eyeball incident, so please accept delayed extra special Mango hugs and strength for Yvaine (and you guys too)
Thank you! The Monocular Cocker and her sidekick The Double Eye Patches Kid return the hugs with enthusiasm.
This was so sudden, "blink and you'll miss it" speed. Two and a half weeks ago, my primary vet examined the eye grafts and was pleased with how they were healing, and took a look at a slightly unusual cyst; we made plans for her to return in a few weeks and remove the cyst.
Two weeks ago, Yvaine became miserably sick, the cyst abscessed enormously, the eye grafts were inflamed, and every possible wart, cyst, and scar on Yvaine's skin was swollen and infected-looking. All her blood tests came back normal; there was no reason we could find. Both my primary vet and the eye surgeon ran all the tests they could think of, but couldn't find any actual cause of the inflammation.
She started strong antibiotics and three types of eyedrops; most of the inflammation went down, but her eye kept getting worse. First thing this week, the eye surgeon checked it again and said it probably couldn't be saved, and she went into surgery Weds.
We still don't know why any of this happened, but the eye and the abscessed cyst have been sent to pathology, where we might learn something about how to make sure she gets entirely better and prevent any recurrence.
Now the TinyLady Pirate has a permanent wink and feels much better, but we still desperately need answers.
