As someone who writes books for a living, the idea of retaining copyright beyond 15+ years is nuts. Every piece of writing should be public domain after 15 years at the absolute maximum.

I'm considering making my own work public domain after 5. Like, at that point sales slow to nothing. Having a book for free on the internet is just advertising for your other work.
