Okay as a gender queer IN MY OPINION the initial Taash gender convo was handled well, playing a nonbinary character gave me some very touching responses. Also think however u like about terminology but considering they have a convo with the Shadow Dragons about it, and Tevene is basically Latin, and the terminology does come from Latin words...

I must not look at spoilers. Spoilers are the mind killer. The temporary anxiety relief that longterm have the effect of making me increasingly more uncomfortable with storytelling-induced discomfort and uncertainty. Instead of respecting the storytelling craft and process, I look for temporary relief to 'is it too bad?', 'is it good enough?', 'how close is it to how I imagined it?' and that's not the way to go.

Stories don't pop in from the ether or as messages from God, they're made by people, and they inevitably contain something of those people. The same bullet point list of events can be read and experienced quite differently depending on storytelling factors. etc etc

Tbh I'm still omw to making peace with the fact this game will inevitably do some things different to how I imagined or wished and that's OKAY. I'm having a lot of fun with it, and lots of complicated feelings tied to how intwined this series has been with my life since highschool. I feel like the only antidote for spoileritis is trying to take it slow and to have fun, see what the makers came up with, treat it as a conversation rather than a proclamation. To have above all grace for the process, the key to my enjoying of every Dragon Age game so far, one I practiced naturally up to Inquisition, where it needed to be deliberate cause I changed and became more cynical about stories in general then. This time it also needs to be deliberate, because it's so so easy to slip into cynicism or let nostalgia distort perception of how things used to be vs how they are now.

And to any spoilers I marginally glanced on the corner of my eye, I need to remind myself it's unlikely many or any people managed to reach the end of the game already while being very very thorough with exploration, codexes etc. I just need to chill tf out cause people can misinterpret online, and make definitive statements lacking information online, and really just straight up lie online.

Also even from a solavellan run perspective the choices suck bcs there's seemingly no space for lavellan to like, not want to kill solas but also not want to go back with him either? If you pick him as your romance + vowed to stop him I fear that'll be pinged as being aggressive and wanting to kill him, and him romanced + saving him is just gonna have lavellan fawning over and still being in love with him 😭 why's a bitch not allowed to have an ex she sees as a friend now????

Honestly I'm, in my heart of hearts, fine with making a sequel a blank slate. I'm a hag and grew up on old rpgs like NWN and KOTOR, ME's worldstate importing was novel when the most you knew about past game events in these older rpgs was stuff you could 'define' through dialogue or, as in the case of NWN:HotU, your vanilla game companions appeared just to be TPKd and the vanilla game and expansions didn't even share a protagonist!

But choosing Veilguard as a blank slate moment when the continuation of plot threads they picked demands referencing back to legacy characters is weird. Like, WE didn't make the choice to bring back Varric and Morrigan, THEY did. They also chose to connect the game with the last entry through Solas, in a way markedly different that it was with Anders going from Awakening to 2, cause the events of Awakening did not have implications for the literal state of the world and reality itself!

Contrary to current corpo beliefs you CAN finish a story of an entry and wrap up the plot without having to introduce cliffhangers just to emotionally blackmail people into staying tuned, they're gonna do that if your stuff is good anyway! There are blank slate moments and the interval between Inq and Veilguard was not it I fear.
