Lmaoooo I just realized…

People out here unable to accept the idea of the Ackerman clan being far removed from long ago — that although there IS blood relation technically, it is very small and far spread — but these same people watch the whole scene today of ALLLL THE PEOPLE IN THE WALLS WITH YMIR’S BLOOD IN THEIR VEINS and no one bats an EYE at Eremika, Erehisu, whatever other ship exists.

The Ackerman bloodline was created long ago — SO LONG AGO that Zeke says this:

They also possess a bloodline once thought to exist only in legends told by the royal family. The Ackerman clan, byproducts of Titan science. To be frank, I never want to meet them again.

It implies that the Ackermans began likely a little after Ymir and the Titans arose in power, confirmed to be years and years ago. If the minuscule amount of blood of Ymir connects all people in the Walls, so much that when Eren accesses paths to call to all Ymir-blooded humans, then it should be the freakin same for Ackerman-blood humans.

I don’t give a rat’s ass if they have the same last name because it is canon that their ancestry extends from tales old as legends. Again, it has been clarified SO many times that the Ackerman clan is out spread for years. If it’s okay to ship Ymir’s descendents, it’s also okay to ship Ackerman descendants. People truly get over dramatic about it.

It makes me mad that we have to deal with so much crap just because 90% of the fandom won’t stop to think about it.

Like?? Why the HELL else did neither Levi or Mikasa have any sort of huge reaction to finding out about their connected lineage? If they were truly closely related Isayama would have ABSOLUTELY written them a more familial dynamic, but they reacted like how Eldians found out they were Subjects of Ymir. Like people who found out they came from the same city.

Idk. Just in my feels today lol. It was an intense episode and that hit me hard. They’re all freakin’ related!!!! Technically!!!

Hi Helena! Big fan of your writing here🥺♥️ Your rivamika fics are my safe space 😭 (if you have time to answer) i’d love to know when you first started shipping them, why, and what made you continue to love this ship (or anything else to do with your journey as an RM shipper)? i love your characterisation of both levi and mikasa individually, but even more so, your portrayal of their dynamic as a couple, which is why i wanted to ask so badly ☺️ x

Hey anon! Oh woah, first of all, thank you so much. Second of all, oh god, you probably shouldn't have handed me the mic. heh 😅

I’m afraid to look at the word count of this response, I’m sure it’s much more than you bargained for, but I appreciate the question and enjoyed thinking through my response (: Most importantly, I’m so glad you find my stories as a safe space. It’s really an honor. Thank you for sharing with me 🖤🖤

TL; DR As a longtime reader, writer and lover of stories and story-telling, by being someone who pays attention to how stories are crafted and deliberately developed from beginning to end, I sincerely thought Isayama was setting up rivamika as an endgame relationship. So, I read into and interpreted meaning out of ALL their interactions and became deeply invested.

I don’t necessarily ship them cause of the parallels, age gap, enemies to lover trope, height difference, or some of those common reasons and/or kinks. I’m more basic and boring than that. I love the concept of them coming together as though it’s inevitable.

They both are unbelievably strong, selfless, and have suffered so much loss— so, no one else could truly understand them as well as they can understand each other. They both probably would have always settled for a stable, simple life, and been alone and lonely even without realizing it— instead, they find each other, and realize what it means to actually no longer be alone, to do more than just survive. It’s this understated bond, as opposed to a dramatic and passionate romance, that I envision in them and that I love so much.

Then, the passion, heat, the romantic "spark"— I think that’s an added bonus, the cherry on top, the perfect final puzzle piece. They’re both so physically capable, can speak through their actions, and don’t show much need or capacity for emotional/ verbal communication, so the ability to connect with each other through physical intimacy and mind-blowing sex seems like another given.

Still, at the end of the day, for me it comes back to their ability to fully depend on each other, to the inevitability. Not like some soulmate trope where they 'have no choice' in it, but like the stars aligned to prove it's right. How each of them have only one other person on the whole planet who could see and understand them, to be on par with them, to make them realize there’s more to life than settling and surviving, and they happen to find it in each other.

You asked, I rambled 😅 Here’s a breakdown of my thought process in my rivamika journey. For those who make it to the end or want to skip to the end, I'll finish with the excerpt of the very first rivamika scene I felt compelled to to write.

It's really interesting to me that Nanami hates working overtime and tries his best to avoid it, if possible. On the other hand, Shoko is a doctor who can heal sorcerers using her reverse cursed technique so she can't afford to leave on time. It's probably a fact that she got called in for work, even on her off days, because someone needs urgent medical attention. Actually, she probably can't take a day off (LOL). Our woman literally has eye bags 😪

Both of them love to drink and although, we don't know much about Shoko. She gives off such a matured vibe? Remember the episode when Nanami called Shoko and Shoko was comforting Yuuji?

[JJK SPOILERS] Or the chapter when Principal Yaga asked Shoko,"I thought you quit smoking." Shoko replied,"I'm reminded of the old days." ~ something like that??? I think??? can't really remember

I can imagine them drinking together and relaxing, ya know? The work they do is so exhausting. The shit they went through when they were in high school was horrible. They give me a very matured, wise couple vibes. I'm all for it, either platonically or romantically. I hope I make sense :/

TLDR: Nanami x Shoko is really cute.

Y’all I think about RivaMika so often

I was a huge Petra x Levi fan for god knows how long, and used to be so distraught about how she was dead and gone. I’ve always loved Mikasa and Levi separately, and always has this lingering thought that they’d be pretty foineeee together but I never fully understood where Isa was going with the Ackerman clan connection (so to be safe, I disregarded any positive feelings I had about them as a ship).

It wasn’t until the last chapters, which revealed Levi and Mikasa to be alive and well after the war, and after defeating and killing E together in the end, and after a whole time skip where Mikasa is a grown ass woman and Levi is a grown as man that I was like… wait… hold up? You’re telling me they’re both alive and well? And both of them can finally live normal lives post-war? And they’ve gone through the world and back? These two people, who deserve all the damn happiness in the world??

And that’s when it clicked for me, all the reasons why I love RivaMika now, and the potential it had all along. Their dynamic and their will to literally fight for those they love. Both being seen as humanity’s strongest, meaning they both understand each others strength in ways no one else can. They never worried about the other keeping up with them because they both were so equally with each other. Mikasa stuck by his side through all their missions together, even when the others started to doubting his character and leadership. And he never once doubted Mikasa. In fact, she has always seemed special to him; he always had a natural soft spot for Mikasa and what she thinks. Everyone sees Mikasa for her combat skills but he was one of the only characters who really tried to listen to her words/reactions/emotions. For gods sake, Mikasa is the only woman comrade of Levi’s who stayed alive with him through all his battles; and there were many battles. He’s treated her like an equal from the beginning, and they’ve always had a mutual respect and implied admiration of each other. There was nothing ever established that Levi and Mikasa were closely related at all; in fact there were more clarifications by Isa that they were not!

Then I got deeper in the damn rabbit hole of potential for RivaMika. All of their parallels. The “I’m with you” to “Stay with me.” The side glances at each other and the personalities that create the best tensions and attractions.

Mikasa being obsessed with E, then having to kill him in the end; literally having to let go of her love for E that was never healthy for her. She can now move on and find a love that is healthy, with a partner who loves and respects her and treats her exactly how she deserves to be treated by someone she can grow to love, but also someone challenges her to be exactly who she is and more. Someone who sees her strengths and is never afraid of it, but wants to fan the flame. Levi is exactly that for her, romantic or not. That man values her not just a few levels better than E did, but in a whole other way that is by nature good.

Then Levi. Oh, Levi. The man who has been through hell and back, and has lost so many loved ones on the way. He has given so much of himself for the sake of others, for the sake of humanity, and has seen so many people give up their lives along the way. This man is hurt and tortured, but he still fights for the future. Battle after battle after battle, so many people are gone — but then Mikasa, sweet beautiful Mikasa, is there with him in the end. In the final battle she tended to him while he was hurt, she saved him, and she fought alongside him — just the two of them — to finally finally finally claim victory for what he had been fighting for all this time. And she does it. And because she does, now they can rest. For once in his life, he didn’t have to be the one delivering the final blow. And oh my GOD, the glimmer in his eyes returning when Mikasa told him to help her win, after he lost all his purpose after he killed Zeke. He must’ve thought Mikasa was fucking amazing.

Then the time skip. Levi is able to have a home and all the damn tea he can possibly want. Mikasa is also able to have a home and live a life of peace. Both have been through so much together, and they are the only ones left who survived the battle, and survived together. They are old comrades, but more importantly, permanent friends. And as friends they are bound to see each other again. And that thought of them being able to see each other again and again and again, and bloom a stronger bond in the context of a peaceful life ahead, was really what solidified RivaMika as my all time OTP. This man who gave up so much of himself for others, can now start thinking of himself and what he wants, and who he wants to share a future with. And this woman, who gave up so much of herself for the people she loved, can also start thinking of herself and what she wants, and who she wants to spend her future years with.

…I’m just emotional right now, smh. They deserved better. Y’all can’t tell me J*an’s dynamic with Mikasa was stronger than this; I love J*an but there is absolutely no competition when it comes to who has and who will treat Mikasa the best. I also freaking think Isa was planning on RivaMika to be end game but didn’t want his misunderstanding audience to be mad lol. I have all the feelings rn. I love RM so much. I’ve never felt this strongly about a non-canon OR canon ship ever in my life
