Gentrification isn't "progress".
It doesn't benefit the average citizen of your city.
It most likely will raise your rent if you are in the area, and push out those who cannot afford the rising rent prices. It negatively affects already marginalized groups and benefits those who are already wealthy.
It raises the cost of maintaining the native, local businesses that we all love and replaces them with cookie cutter, aesthetically inorganic bullshit that's is most likely owned by a large corporation that could care less about the city that it aims to destroy the culture of. I live in a city with around 290,000 people and certain blocks are barely recognizable.
I am in no way condoning any vandalism of any kind, but will let you know that it takes a simple Ducky search to find out how much damage a small amount of sugar can do to setting cement.
