That's the irony of being the luckiest duck in the world. Good luck puts you in a great position but that also means that you'll be surrounded by people who would use you for it. The misfortune of fortune is that you're not sure of who will stick around for you once things go south.
Meanwhile, Donald's consistent misfortune has led him to have people who will stick to him in spite of it. Donald lost more but in losing more he gained people who sincerely liked him for who he is. If you think about it, adventurers are also very unlucky because they stumble into problems that they themselves have to solve. While Gladstone can be seen going out on dates with various people in the comics, I feel like a lot of these relationships tend to be superficial because of his luck. And I think Gladstone has come to that point wherein he's likely not to take them seriously. There's a level of distrust. In a sense having perfect luck is to win but never to truly win.
