Let’s take a moment and acknowledge how insanely cool Doug Henderson’s Permian and Triassic Black-and-white art was. From “Dinosaurs: A Global View” by Sylvia and Stephen Czerkas (1990).
Between 1963 and 1967, artist Norman Deaton created three 1″:1′ scale dioramas of Mesozoic landscapes for the National Museum of Natural History.
The animals were sculpted in clay. Deaton would mail curator Nicholas Hotton photos (like those above) of the in progress sculpts, then alter them as needed until Hotton was satisfied.
