A senior member of the US Marine corps is telling people "multiple platoons" are deploying to Egypt, a source tells us. There is a system within the US Marines that alerts the immediate families of high-ranking marines when their marine will soon be deployed to an emergency situation where they will not be able to talk to their spouses or families. That alert just went out, says our source.

Remember, this is not yet officially confirmed.

The radical Muslim opposition has a totally different status in the Egyptian society and deserves to be called the main force opposing Mubarak’s regime. Ruthlessly persecuted under Nasser, Sadat, and Mubarak, over the past decade The Society of the Muslim Brothers renounced terrorism and, while still banned, re-branded itself as the political opposition. The Brotherhood whose candidates ran as “independents” won 80 seats in the Egyptian parliament in 2005. The last parliamentary elections were almost openly rigged and only due to this reason left the Muslim Brotherhood with nothing. Of course, the Brotherhood’s political facelift did not reflect its inner reality. Even a brief inspection of the group’s web site clearly shows that it remained a phenomenon of absolutely the same nature as the notorious Al Qaeda. Should Mubarak’s regime fall, the liberal opposition would momentarily be sidelined by the Muslim radicals. Al Baradei took the risk of forging an alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood being fully aware that only they were able to mobilize truly mass support for the opposition, especially among Egypt’s poorest population strata. The demise of the current regime would inevitably be followed by the country’s conversion into a center of Muslim radicalism not much different from Afghanistan, Somalia, or, in some regards, Pakistan. The West may be extolling the Egyptian democratic breakthrough but should be mindful of the above.

This contradicts other reports that state that Muslim Brotherhood is a more moderate religious organization than many others - like how there is enmity between The Brotherhood and the likes of al Queda (if one allows the paradigm that al Queda is a unified organization).

But I have to ask if there is any secular political opposition to Mubarak that is nearly as well organized as the M.B. This matters if a new government is to be organized in Egypt; look at what has happened to Iran after the Pahlavi Dynasty (sic) was deposed...theocracy is not a good thing.
