So we've found the one person in the world who does not trigger Fremdschämen in me, and it's this useless sack of unfiltered ass. I could watch CR embarrassing herself all day long.

Fucking shande.

Her wearing a t-shirt with Taylor's face on it as a mocking statement while being interviewed by Taylor is a shining example of the pettiness the right defaults to. She really thought she did something there, and Taylor Lorenz is just 100% professional and letting chaya show herself as the complete tool she is.

fun fact of the day: anyone who tells you that "femme" and "butch" can only be used by lesbians took the terf pills- white cis lesbian separationists (terfs) are the ones behind the idea that only lesbians can use butch and femme when many lesbians of color have their own terms for masc and fem lesbians. this is also an effort to erase the history the terms butch and femme have had in including trans and gnc people, drag performers, bears, masc and fem gays into their preferred gender expression and community spaces. it's a historically inaccurate argument. have a good day!

holy shit. tumblr staff deciding to roll out and approve fucking dave chappelle ads during a time when most of their userbase suspects theres some reaally weird terf complacent shit going on behind the scenes …. that is uh. Certainly A Choice

i feel like we’re at a point where tumblr staff allowing transphobic shitbags to run rampant on their platform can no longer be excused by just saying “oh it’s just mismanagement” or “oh it’s just the algorithm”. maybe you could’ve justified trans people’s ‘based on your likes’ being regularly filled with nothing but anti-trans rhetoric by ‘the algorithm messing up’ and it’s a BIG stretch but maybe you could justify staff allowing users anti-trans hate speech posts to be paid to be shown to as many people as possible as just ‘it slipping through the cracks’. but now we’re at a point where tumblr is approving ads for VERY notable transphobic comedians to take up someone’s ENTIRE fucking phone screen. like. this is the most blatant confirmation there is to me that there’s some weird terf shit happening with tumblr staff. how on earth could you ignore this. it’s almost funny how blatant this is at this point.

on June 3rd i saw this post on my dash, with every single gif removed for ‘violating community guidelines’. reading through the caption and notes, and just two weeks after another r*cky gerv*is “comedy” special was released on netflix, it was pretty obvious that the original post was gifs of this bit:

it’s a comedian making jokes about lazy bigoted comedians like ricky gervais. this was the content so heinous that not a single gif could stay up on this site. what community guidelines were broken here? was james bullying ricky fucking gervais?? there’s not even a curse here so it can’t be language. or are you no longer allowed to call transph*bes what they are?

many sites (like twitter and instagram) are now banning words like “tr*nsph*be/tr*nsph*bia/tr*nsph*bic” but they don’t even show up in this gif set. is transgender a bad word now? are we allowed to say ‘transgender people’ and ‘little cis boy’ on tumblr or will our posts be taken down?

i wish i could go back and get more information but not only were all the gifs taken down, the original post no longer exists. they have completely erased it.

Transgender lesbian woman tears gender stereotypes apart in viral video

You have probably heard it before: “Wearing a dress does not make you a woman!”

Over at twitter, Eva, a lesbian transgender woman, published this amazing video in response, showing the world what kind of stupid stereotype this is (embedded above).

Jokes aside, early on in transition I would worry so much about if I wasn’t trans enough because I genuinely enjoyed some of the ways I was masculine before I came out.
Re-contextualizing that through the frame of lesbian masculinity has made me feel so much more at ease, and it’s made me so much more comfortable with those parts of myself than as I ever did trying to express them as a man.
I love my shoulders. I love my arms, my muscles. I love wearing suits. I love being tall. I love having a deeper voice. I love having a strong jawline. I also love having long hair, gentle curves, and painting inch long wings over my eyes. I love being trans

that JK rowling is capable of multiple kinds of transphobia post i mentioned at 6 am this morning

alright, 17 minutes till i gotta leave the house to go to work. let’s see if i can get this done before then.

this is definitely something other people have talked about before, so it’s not like i’m all that creative with new ideas but it IS something that bothers me so. here’s my thoughts.

a lot of people, at least from what I’ve seen online, tend to just ignore JK Rowling’s transphobia specifically targeted at trans men and that’s a problem.

now: to be clear - is she a transmisogynist? Absolutely. Let’s just knock that one out of the way. It’s impossible to deny that when she’s written a book specifically preying off of a transmisogynistic lie that trans women are predators.

so, to be absolutely certain ya’ll don’t miss this: She is absolutely transmisogynistic and she is absolutely a problem that needs to be dealt with in that aspect.

the problem, for me, lies in that she is ALSO transandrophobic to trans mascs and trans men, especially in regards to autistic trans mascs/men, and it is quite frankly, what I would call obsessive.

and a lot of people. online at least, tend to ignore that.

The most prominent time I can recall is her terf letter. She was very clear she thought autistic trans men were unable to actually decide if they were trans - that we’d been lured in, seduced, whatever you want to call it. She said that “girls” were being lied to and convinced that dysphoria was their problem, and that the “truth” was that they just hated how society treats women (….sound familar? that’s terf rhetoric. right there, that is terf rhetoric.) and they want to escape it.

Neverminded the fact that we try living as girls and being cheered on with “girl power!”, “girls run the world!” and other encouragement in that vein. Is it necessarily all good? No, but there is not an entire absence of encouragement for girls to be girls even if it’s in untraditional ways that would explain the trans men we see today.

Hey, Rowling, I tried living as a girl for 19 years. I tried being a spiteful girl who told the world to not tell me what to do because of my gender.

And it still didn’t fit right because I am not one

So Rowling spreads the lie that we can’t decide for ourselves who we are because we’re autistic, and we’re mentally incapable of it, and therefore can’t declare ourselves boys, men - not a girl

that’s not targeting trans women. that’s targeting us

and when we get ignored, speaking out, when we get told that she’s obssesed with trans women, which I won’t deny she’s obssesed with them too, it is frustrating. i’ve seen that.

but the damage she is responsible for to trans mascs and trans men in the UK alone? do you really think what she had to say about us didn’t have any influence on how gender clinics are now all but available to younger trans kids? do you think she had no impact on legal situations, do you think her tweets didn’t influence how public opinion and honestly legal outcomes resulted (because the people behind that ARE influenceable).

Please just acknowledge what’s she’s doing to us. Please stop ignoring the hurt she’s causing us, and please stop telling us she’s only talking about trans women.

If you look at her tweets, her letters, her public releases, you can’t ignore the focus on us that’s there too.

She’s capable and proven she’s able to obsess and hate all of us. Please, stop trying to help her in her crusade against trans men, even unintentionally.

Yo Biden just announced an infrastructure devolopment/clean energy/environmental justice plan and it's honesty pretty fucking amazing and much more ambitious than I ever would have expected from him, goddamn. He's trying to Eisenhower/New Deal our way out of the economic collapse.

Some notable points addressed by this plan:

  • Expanding American railway systems
  • Fixing the crumbling roads, bridges, dams, etc. that haven't been kept up
  • Capping abandoned oil wells
  • Undoing Trump's financial bailout policies for unclean energy companies
  • Reinvesting in American-made automotive companies
  • Getting America to 100% clean energy by 2035
  • Fixing air, water, and ground pollution issues that disproportionately affect poc
  • Getting justice for victims of environmental racism
  • Reinstating a bunch of environmental and medical jobs Trump had cut
  • Getting the US back on the Paris Agreement/Climate Accord

For those who were wondering what the point of voting for a leftist candidate was, if the leftist didn’t win—this is it.  Biden is trending leftward.  That’s what we want him to do.  He wouldn’t be doing it if the left hadn’t shown itself to be a real force.

I know that the work is never done and all that, but I think we can count this one as a win.

please god vote. register ASAP. check to make sure you’re still registered because they’re kicking people off. look into your states mail in ballot laws

I don’t like the guy, and I doubt if most of this would actually get done, but please, it’s better than the guy actively dismantling anything good we have and pushing us backwards

even if you’re in a state that swings dem and you think your vote doesn’t matter, it does. the popular vote tally means something even if the system is broken. Hillary got millions more votes and that was the voice of the people. vote even just to add to the tally of people against Trump because you know the numbers will hurt his vanity

And for all the “lesser of two evils” people out there who think a Biden victory means rewarding the Democratic party’s ongoing rejection of the left wing of the party, reminder that the alternative, GREATER of two evils, is THIS:

A new policy change to prevent trans women from accessing homeless shelters is teaching people how to police gender presentation and physical features just so the country can legalize a new way to get away with killing us.

This is the shit we would have four more years of if Biden loses.

Shelter workers may use “factors such as height, the presence (but not the absence) of facial hair, the presence of an Adam’s apple, and other physical characteristics which, when considered together, are indicative of a person’s biological sex,” the rule says.
If a homeless person appears too transgender for a homeless shelter, the shelter is allowed to ask them for proof of “biological sex.”

Biden wasn’t even my fifth choice in the primaries.  But we have to focus on the general now.  There are only two possible outcomes this November.  We’ve seen how one of them turned out for us, and we all know damn well it’s only getting worse, and getting worse faster.  Do not forget that the other outcome is not just about Biden; there’s an entire Democratic platform that comes in with him, along with a complete 180 in White House staff, federal appointments, judicial confirmations, etc.  And the judicial confirmations ALONE are a huge deal.  If you are somehow NOT convinced that Biden would be better for us than Trump, I need you to understand the existential threat of these words:

Losing Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat to another Brett Kavanaugh.

Do NOT let your ideological purity put us through THAT.

Anything lesser than the evil we have now is a rejection of how far right the Overton Window has been dragged the last few years.  Don’t forget how much we stand to lose if we don’t live to fight another day.

Hello there!! What did you think/How did you feel about finding out that JKR is a TERF? I’m sorry if it’s abit personal, but it saddened me alot when I found out, but I’m glad I have fanfics to cheer me up. Thank you so much for your blog, it really means alot to be able to find good ones to read!

At that time, I was surprised and a bit disappointed, but not too much. It might be because I'm not that invested in the creators and more focused on their works? And talking about authors, I've always liked Suzanne Collins more.

About the topic, 'Is JKR really a TERF?' I've seen some controversy, I think you could ask for the opinions from someone more knowledgeable than me, aka @bounding-heart !

I was debating whether to reblog this post with all of the additions, because @dewitty1 and @secretlycrazyhummingbird made some really good points in their replies, but... I refuse to give cis people's transphobic opinions a platform in my blog.

It's okay to not know much about what's going on with JKR. It's okay to not know much about radical feminism, transphobia, and transmisogyny.

But if you care about trans people, if you want to be an ally to the community, you need to do better than to encourage people who may also not know much to listen to a cis woman on this. Especially when trans people and their allies have talked about these topics at length and continue to do so.

And, to me, it's alarming that your first choice when you decided to direct people to someone more knowledgeable than you was a cis woman that has repeatedly sided with other TERFs on Tumblr, that calls the fight for trans rights "misogynistic and homophobic", and that goes as far as to claim that "same sex attracted people have a moral right to reject people with bodies that don't fall within their sexuality" in her pinned post.

If you care about us, you need to do better than this.

Reblogging this one because I’m fully repulsed by some of the other commentary and this is what deserves to be seen.

1) TERF isn’t a slur.

2) JKR is a TERF.

3) If you exclude trans people from your feminism, you’re not a feminist.

4) Cis people don’t get to decide what is and isn’t right for, or insulting to, the trans community.

5) JKR isn’t even a feminist or an LGBT+ ally—her books have a lot of gross ‘not like other girls’ bullshit, and there’s literally no canon LGBT+ representation. Now, they were written forever ago, but instead of saying ‘I wrote these books before I was educated on the importance of thoughtful, well-rounded minority representation, and while I can’t go back in time to change it, I can do better going forward, and I appreciate everyone who’s talked to me about this’, she chose to pretend certain characters have always been part of a specific community.

6) It’s disappointing to see a fanfic author whose work I’ve enjoyed take such a regressive, antagonistic stance, but I’m glad I know now. I hope that person talks to people who were affected by JKR’s words instead of burying her head in the sand in the name of ‘being right’.

7) Using sexual assault to justify your bigoted views is disgusting and insulting to all other survivors.

That’s about all I’ve got on this. I hope certain people wake up and grow up. Grossed out that there are still so many people with these views in 2020.

JKR is not a TERF and has made it clear she finds the term insulting. You all need to decide: is it an insult or is it a factual label? Because whenever a feminist mentions the fact that TERF is misogynistic hate speech–which it is–you (TRAs) come back with, ‘It’s just a label!’ JKR does not refer to herself as a TERF, so by your own linguistic standards, she’s not one. You can’t demand people respect your labels if you’re going to ignore other people’s.

She’s not transphobic either. If you think that speaking out in alarm at the way this specific, extremist brand of trans activism is harming women, and threatens to harm us even further if certain legislation is passed, then you need to self-examine and ask yourself why women’s rights and safety is so unimportant in your mind.

JKR laid out her reasons for being concerned about TRA ideology and aggressive misogyny very clearly and kindly in her essay. If you haven’t read her essay in good faith, giving her words and ideas a real chance, then anything you have to say on the subject is invalid. JKR laid out numerous facts complete with sources. She expressed her passionate support of trans people and her feelings of solidarity with trans women, as we’re all vulnerable to male violence.

Women have the right to determine and define our own identity. Fighting for these rights is not transphobic, nor is it incompatible with supporting trans people and fighting for trans people’s rights.

Disagreeing with TRA ideology and particularly TRA methods of enforcement of that ideology is not transphobic, it’s just common decency, ie, not being a terrible human being. If you support the TRAs, you are not the good guys. Your supporting a deeply misogynistic, homophobic movement that ignores the sex based oppression of women all over the world, in favour of a small handful of mostly white, mostly well-off Western folks who’ve been brainwashed into supporting a nonsensical academic philosophy of gender.

How could anyone who read her works be surprised that Jo Rowling would stand up and speak up for women’s rights? How?

WTF though; OP’s comparing being a ‘TERF’ (i.e. someone who acknowledges the reality of biological sex and understands its implications for women) to being a fucking PEDOPHILE?! As if they are EQUIVALENT?!

And the most OP can muster for finding out someone is a pedophile is 'disappointment’? For fuck’s sake, what a piece of shit.

@goodwife-two-shoes

Even though your insult is a little bit much, I deeply regret that thoughtless line about MJ. In my haste, I made such terrible word choice, it was my mistake and definitely not what I wanted to convey. When making the answer above, I purely thought about talented people with their extraordinary works and their impact on generations. Not that the MJ case was any less than horrifying.

But hey! This piece of shit knows that your definition of TERF is quite wrong.

J.K. Rowling wrote a controversial statement about transgender people in response to being called a 'TERF.' Here's what that means.

This video actually explains JKR's transphobia really well.

"Let’s be clear from the start. J. K. Rowling is transphobic. We can see this in the opinions that she has shared and in those she has publicly endorsed. But like so many TERFs, her transphobia often manifests in a form more insidious than blatant."

"Maybe it’s time to let go. Give the Harry Potter books over to those to whom they have meant, and continue to mean, so much. Allow Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood to end up together after all; allow Remus Lupin and Sirius Black to be lovers. Allow Wiccans into Hogwarts; allow Hermione to be black, yes, but trans too, if readers and imaginers believe it.

And allow the universe we really live in to change, too. Older people may want to declare their history books complete. They would do better to hand over their quills and give younger people the chance to add chapters of their own, while making space for those who’ve so far been excluded from the pages."

I'd encourage y'all to actually read (or in the case of the video, watch) all of these if you don't believe JKR is a terf.

No one is saying that you MUST have sex with trans people.

Or fat people

Or disabled people

Or dark-skinned black people

Or or or….

When activists say things like “It’s transphobic to say that you aren’t attracted to trans women,” that doesn’t translate to “You absolutely have to find a trans woman right now and bone down!” Instead, what they’re saying is “The only thing that all trans women have in common is that they’re trans women. They all look different, act different, think different, have different bodies and are at different stages of transition. There is no way that you find every single one of them unattractive. To specifically single them out as a group that you dislike is based on stereotypes and bias, not reality.”

It benefits all of us to take the time to examine our internal bias. Recognizing that prejudice and reflecting on it is a good thing. Maybe your sexual or romantic leanings will never change. That’s okay. But let’s not just brush past these things by saying “It’s a preference” when really: these thoughts are based on a culture of discrimination, stereotypes and bigotry. Labeling them as such is a reflection on that culture, not on your love life.

from @munroebergdorf TW: Murder, Transphobia, Graphic Violence.

This week we lost another two black trans sisters to transphobic violence, with next to no media attention or public outrage. At times like this we are reminded just how little care there is for black trans lives, let alone when we are murdered.

On Tuesday, the body of Dominique “Rem’mie” Fells was pulled from a river in Philadelphia. She had trauma to her face and head, her legs were severed mid thigh. Also on Tuesday, Riah Milton was shot multiple times, then robbed and her car stolen. She died at the scene.

All black lives cant matter, until black trans lives matter. The violence that we continue to face as a community needs to end. Both women are being misgendered in the small amount of media attention that these cases have attracted.

Whilst wealthy white cisgender women like JK Rowling and others who follow the abusive strand of “gender critical feminism”, tweet falsehoods and ignorance about our community, black transgender women are facing unimaginable violence, poverty and injustice. This violence is massively disproportionate when you take into consideration that trans people make up 0.6% of the American population, this is reduced even further with the intersection of blackness.

The conversation surrounding the trans community needs to change. Ignoring these deaths in favour of dehumanising debates over what bathroom we should use, or whether trans kids should have access to healthcare, needs to stop. It is upholding an environment of hostility and violence towards us and lives are being lost because of it.

"J.K. Rowling is transphobic. She wrote a transphobic novel. She tweets transphobia. She's also written a racist one (maybe more than one, given the stereotypes that are strewn throughout the Potter books, but I'm only talking about the mysteries here). But the thing that really haunts me about the Strike novels, and what they reveal about Rowling, is that their worst traits and authorial decisions seem fueled by a kind of defensive contempt. She became a beloved juvenile fiction celebrity for writing a story about a very privileged group of "misfit" friends who fought exaggerated avatars of classism and racism. But at every turn, success seems to have made her more vindictive, more resentful.

As they grew older, many of the young readers who loved these stories, but struggled to see themselves in them, started asking Rowling why her attempts at inclusion only came via retcons after the series was finished. Countless people aspired to be the next J.K. Rowling, and offered their own thoughts about how her stories might have been better. And confronted with criticism and questions about her work and the biases and prejudices that may have shaped it, Rowling's response was to take another name and lash-out in another series where she finally just said what she thinks of all those people who think they might deserve better than being ignored."
