New Artwork!

We’re delighted to share the new artwork for the HP Next Gen Fest, lovingly rendered by @mad1492. We could (and will) stare at it all day and find fun new little details (@thebooktopus‘ personal favorites are Teddy’s nails and Victoire’s necklace, for example). 

As a reminder, prompting opens this Tuesday, 2/1 - keep an eye out here for the post, which will include links to the prompting form and the Airtable where you’ll be able to see prompts already submitted in real-time. Claiming will begin 2/15 at 10AM EST. 

Also, the previous artwork has served the fest well for many years and we want to thank @this-bloody-cat for creating it!

WIP fest

Hey guys, I was thinking of setting up an HP themed WIP fest, because for me, having an agreed upon deadline makes it much easier to actually get myself to finish something, and I doubt im the only one. 

So, would there be an interest in that? It would be HP themed, not just Drarry

Your WIP can sit in a google doc or word file or already be partially published, that doesn’t matter.

In which James has a little something to say.

“Do you think they’re going to care?” Teddy asks, running his hand through James’s mess of hair.

“Is who going to care about what?” James stretches across the couch lazily, arching into Teddy’s fingers on his scalp.

“Your family. Or like…people in general. D’you think they’ll care? Will it be weird for them, us being together?” Teddy tries to ignore the feeling of doubt curling around in his stomach. He and James are this whole new thing, and it’s thrilling and intense, but facing the reality of letting other people into their blissful little bubble has Teddy feeling anxious.

James wriggles and twists around until he’s sitting cross-legged facing Teddy, his brow wrinkling. “I mean, why would it be? I’m not some sort of twelve-year-old kid any more! Nobody stays twelve forever, mate,” James says, and then snorts. “Last time I checked, twenty-three was considered a fucking full-blown adult. Well…maybe not full-blown, but I pay some bills! I vote!”

“I’m a little bit older than you though,” Teddy says, laughing.

“So? It’s literally only like six years. And what, I’m not supposed to be with someone I care about just because once upon a time they were alive and I wasn’t or some other nonsensical horseshite? How does that make any sense?”

James takes a deep breath before soldiering on. “There was like over a decade’s difference or something between your mum and dad, and as far as I’ve heard, nobody gave a flying fuck about that.” James is getting agitated now, his disastrous hair sticking up in all directions and a flush building under his freckles.

Teddy runs a soothing hand down James’s arm. “These are all incredibly valid points”.

“Of course they are,” James scoffs with an eyeroll. “You’re being weirdly illogical about this whole thing right now. We’re two consenting adults, in a relationship and living our lives.”

“I know, I know. I just—I love being close with your family. I don’t want to jeopardize that, or make things awkward for you.” Teddy isn’t usually this doubtful, and it’s a testament to how absolutely gone for James he is that he’s so worried.

“Edward Tedward Teddy Lupin. Look at me.” James grabs both of Teddy’s hands and gives him a blazing look. “My family loves you. My family loves me. They’re going to love us together, it’s a universal fact. It’s not like we’re actually brothers or blood-related or something. It’s not like I’m a child. My dad didn’t…raise you or something. There’s nothing strange going on, nobody’s doing anything wrong. Y’know, you’re not actually that wise for someone with all those extra years on me,” James says, grinning infuriatingly.

“And for someone who’s practically an infant, you’re too clever by half, Jamie.”

“You love me though, you dirty old man,” James says with a wink. And, fuck it all, Teddy does. He pinches James anyway.

“Besides,” James continues, “if anyone on the outside looking in has some sort of weird problem with us, they’re just literally fucking idiots anyway and I don’t really care what they think. I’ve never cared what they think. Clearly logic is beyond their grasp.”

And isn’t that the fucking truth. People can keep their uninformed negativity to themselves.

Best Of 2017

I was tagged by the amazing @staganddragon , thank you so much! (You’re also helping me procrastinate haha)

2017 has been an amazing year for me art wise, as you might’ve seen in my digital art journey post already. But I still wanted to take this opportunity to list my personal Top 5 drawings of 2K17!

The Color Palette Drawings. I had so much fun with all of those, but this one in particular might be my personal favourite so far. Contrary to my expectations, I love working with these limited color palettes. I especially enjoy all the requests I’m getting and will definitely continue working on them in 2018!

This was the first time I drew Jeddy and I’m still very grateful for @goldentruth813 for suggesting them and writing such a wonderful headcanon! My favourite part about this drawing, however, is that it is my first digital work with a somewhat complete foreground, midground, background structure. The composition of this piece is probably what I’m most proud of, because I’ve always been struggling with backgrounds and the like, but actually like how this one turned out. Which is quite rare, believe me!

This Portrait of Draco still holds a special place inside my heart because this is probably the closest I ever got to transferring the Image I had in mind onto my paper / screen. This was also the first HP drawing I did 100% digitally.

My favourite traditional drawing of the year. Draco in Chokers also became one of my favourite concepts throughout 2K17. And drawing the Sectumsempra scars (or scars in General). I have no idea why I’m so obsessed with them, but I just love adding them to my drawings.They kinda tell a Story of their own.

Of Course I had to add at least one Drarry drawing. This pair has taken over my life over the past three months and I have Zero regrets. It also represents my preferred drawing technique of this year, which is coloring a traditional Sketch digitally. (This was originally supposed to be anatomy practice, so I’m rather happy with their muscle Definition as well! ;)

(Also this was my first post to reach 1K notes and has by now surpassed 1.5K!! I squealed when I saw that bc I never thought I could get that many notes for one single drawing. Thank you!)
