I just spotted Hermione in the photos, half-asleep in the library on the chair. She was the first cat I got when I moved to America, as a kitten in 1992, along with her sister Pod. She did not mingle with the other cats, nor did she go out of the house. She liked libraries.

This is a really good point. I don’t think libraries have ever been more important to protect and support. As a very popular post out there somewhere once pointed out, can you imagine if libraries were proposed today? They’d be tossed away as “social garbage.”
So yeah, support them and actually USE your card too. Most library systems have apps for ebook borrowing so you don’t even have to go in.
As a librarian: PLEASE DO!

The Biblioteca Joanina, sometimes known in English as the Joanine Library, is a Baroque library in Coimbra, Portugal, located at the heart of the University of Coimbra. The Biblioteca Joanina is regularly considered one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.

Olaf Thorvald Boeck (1835-1901) was a Norwegian lawyer, civil servant and book collector. His library was known for its time as the largest private library in Norway. Backer’s painting incorporates only one part of the library.
The Cincinnati Old Main Library, aka “Old Main”, was once one of Cincinnati, Ohio’s most beautiful buildings. Now it’s a parking garage. The old library building, located in Downtown Cincinnati at 629 Vine St., a few blocks from the current Main Library, was demolished in 1955.
The Main Library occupied a prominent position in downtown Cincinnati since 1874. Above the entrance were busts of of William Shakespeare, John Milton and Benjamin Franklin. Inside – the interior designed by architect J.W. McLaughlin (November 1, 1834 – March 4, 1923) – Old Main featured cast-iron book alcoves and a towering atrium with a skylight ceiling. Of that dramatic atrium, Harpers Weekly said: “The first impression made upon the mind on entering this hall is the immense capacity for storing books in its five tiers of alcoves, and then the eye is attracted and gratified by its graceful and carefully studied architecture…” The building closed in 1955, when the “New Main Library” opened at 800 Vine Street, opened.

Books are good company, in sad times and happy times, for books are people—people who have managed to stay alive by hiding between the covers of a book.”
