Hey writers and readers of fanfiction, I have a question for you. A fic I am writing is quickly approaching the ominous milestone of being the longest in it's fandom. I've outlined the entire thing so I can say it's length will be massive, this gives me real pause. What is the longest fic you've ever read or would be willing to read my friends? Maybe give an old, nervous writer some encouragement.

Draco saw Harry across the room by the liquor table, still chatting with some of the eighth-year boys. He was leaning up against the bookshelf, a foot propped up so his knee was bent showing off how good his legs and ass looked in those dark-washed fitted jeans. Harry had clearly been aiming for casual tonight with a baggier-looking tan sports coat over a tight white t-shirt and looked straight out of a Calvin Klein ad because of it. His raven black curls were long enough that they were pulled into a small bun at the back of his head, a few unruly ones framing his face and when he caught Draco looking his green eyes sparkled in the firelight. ‘Fuck me,’ Draco thought to himself, he really did have a type. It wasn’t brunettes, it wasn’t bright eyes, it wasn’t tanned skin or athletic builds, it was Harry Potter. It had always been Harry Potter. It would never be anyone other than Harry Potter. And he was royally fucked because of it. He had been chasing Harry this whole time. When he was turned down for his friendship Draco had made sure he had just as prevalent a role in his life as his rival. When Draco realized he was gay, he had subconsciously been chasing a man like Harry because there was no way Harry Potter liked men. And when it came down to it, during the war Draco would have given his life to keep Harry Potter safe, because as with all things… ...Harry Potter was the exception.

i think the intersection of fanfiction and tik tok is so interesting. you’ll get a tok that has a screenshot of a page of fanfic, only to find out it’s the actual literal author posting it trying to get people to read it. adding on the discussion of famous ppl in fandom, it feels a little weird to see self promo like this? do u know what i mean?
like fanfic is about writing bc you want to, for whatever reason. but it feels in the wake of miss king bean and zar, it’s starting to feel like ppl are searching out notoriety? i think what makes fandom such a cool place is that it’s anonymous. like idk who this person is but i know they write beautifully, and they’re in school for a medical degree, and they have shit going on in their life but they’re trying to post semi regularly. u know? it’s about the people in it, not the being known of it.
and i haven’t personally written any fanfiction, but i don’t think it’s about how many hits or how many kudos you get. u know? it’s like who doesn’t want validation that way right? but that’s not really what ao3 is about. it’s a way to show appreciation sure, but it’s not a popularity contest. idk maybe i’m overstepping here but it feels like new writers want to be popular overnight, and we’re in one of the largest fandoms on ao3. that’s just not possible.

Some new drarry fanart inspired by another old fanfiction, my favourite drarry fanfiction, at that: Arc of the Pendulum by brummel (actualite) on AO3.
As usual I did not re-read the ff before drawing this, because I didn’t want to get too bogged down in the details, I’m already slow as it is, but the story is basically a loose Beauty and the Beast AU where a mad Lucius turns Harry in a reverse werewolf, meaning when he is in wolf form he has his huma mind, while in human form he behaves more wolf-like, and Draco gets stuck with him at Malfoy Manor trying to break the curse.
It’s very good, long but not too long, with a very interesting twist to a classic trope/AU. Maybe there are better written fics, maybe fics with more interesting twists but this… this checks all the boxes while maintaining a high quality for each one of them. Fanfic is pretty old (2013) so don’t know how longer it will stay up but give it a go.
Summary: After his father casts a mysterious curse on Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy is forced to try to make things right. Rating E, 30k words
