This is why you vote & vote Blue

They ran on doing this; not on how this was impossible.

This is why we want candidates to campaign on these issues: Because people want these jobs done.

Voting matters. #VoteBlue 💙

I think it's really important to take a good look at who you're voting for in primaries, too. It's not being talked about that a lot of the people who got this done are a) younger and b) marginalized in one or more ways and c) aren't entrenched in establishment politics.

One of the reasons that things got done is because the people pushing those agendas aren't following the old "well we have to appeal to the right to our own detriment" Democrat defeatist stuff, and because they're young and because nobody had yet told them it couldn't be done, they just did it.

If you haven't yet seen the video of the young man responsible for the gig work reform bill being literally carried around on the shoulders of Uber drivers after the bill passed, go look it up. It's good stuff.

Yes, vote blue, because the Republican party is... *waves hands* but pay attention to who you're voting for. Show up at primaries. Don't just vote in the incumbent if they're not getting shit done.

Hell, run for shit, and if you do? Don't let 'em tell you that it can't be done.

Yes, Omar Fateh (the guy behind the gig workers bill) is really respected in his district, and he specifically ran in both the primary and the actual election as a person committed to Getting Shit Done. And then he did!

It is so important to keep an eye out for folks like this in your primaries and give them your vote. Even if they don’t win, many candidates use primary results to help them choose which issues to address during the main campaign and in session.

And if your preferred political party has caucuses, or meetings, or whatever in preparation for the primary, try to go! That’s a great place to share your concerns with potential candidates or get a feel for what plans everyone is likely to focus on.

Minnesota Candidate Delivers Convention Speech While In Labor

Minnesota Candidate Delivers Convention Speech While In Labor

“I think that they would’ve stopped this convention for any other medical emergency, but instead they put a Black woman through immense pain and put her in front of the room during one of her most vulnerable moments in life ― in front of a room of 200 people,” added Emma McBride, political director of Women Winning, who works with Maye Quade’s wife and was a campaign surrogate. “I just felt really disappointed that nobody in the room who had the power to do so was putting a stop to this.”

Both McBride and the Maye Quade campaign said they didn’t fault any single person for what happened Saturday. But they were disappointed that there wasn’t a process to properly respond.

“Watching what happened, and watching a DFL process fail yet again another woman, another woman of color, and put somebody through something so difficult as that just reaffirms why we do what we do. We need pro-choice women in all places where decisions are being made,” McBride said.

Maye Quade successfully delivered a baby girl around 2 a.m. on Sunday. Both the mother and daughter are doing well.

4.17.21. Brooklyn Center, MN

Police dispersed a protest shortly into the night, then forced all journalists to surrender and consent to photographs of their faces, credentials, and IDs. Police also arrested marked medics for being present.

A local church opened to injured protestors the night before, and dozens of police responded by surrounding the church the following day.

Police are the acting arm of fascism.

police response is similar in other cities, like LA and NY pictured here. All cops have an interest in their own power and demanding their ability to kill with impunity.

That picture of the cops surrounding the church looks like a joke. It’s not.

It’s not a joke. In fact most of those guys standing around doing absolutely nothing of value for their community are earning overtime. Which will cost their community more. For nothing of value.

When people say “Defund the Police” this is part of what they mean. Useless displays of force that only serve to brutalize their citizens and result in cities paying out millions of dollars in settlements.

In memory of George Floyd. Words seem to fail in these moments of considerable pain and grief but some words remain absolutely vital for championing change, humanity, and justice: Black Lives Matter.

Finally, some accountability. Rest in peace, George Floyd. The work continues.

On Monday night, the police officer who killed Wright was identified as Kim Potter, a 26-year veteran of the department.

In a press conference, Gannon said Potter had meant to use her Taser on Wright, but accidentally shot him instead.

In body camera footage of the incident, Potter can be heard yelling, “Taser! Taser! Taser! Oh shit, I just shot him.”

Potter was placed on administrative leave pending an independent investigation, but on Tuesday she resigned from the department.

In an interview with Good Morning America on Tuesday, Wright’s father, Aubrey Wright, said he “can’t accept” the excuse that the fatal shooting of his son was a mistake. “I lost my son. He is never coming back. I can’t accept that,“ Aubrey Wright said. "A mistake? That doesn’t even sound right.”

Potter is president of her police union, the Brooklyn Center Police Officers Association, a role in which she has represented other officers who’ve killed people, KSTP-TV reported.

Gannon said officers pulled Wright over Sunday afternoon over an expired registration tag on his car, and when they ran his name through their system, found he had a warrant out for his arrest. He had missed a court appearance for two misdemeanor charges: carrying a handgun without a permit and running from police last June, according to court documents obtained by BuzzFeed News.

While officers attempted to arrest him on Sunday, Wright tried to break free and get back in his car. Body camera footage shows Potter warning Wright she would tase him, but then she fatally shot him.

(We know they’re still going to get that nice police pension though, right?) #Shameful

for people who are unaware of why the riots in minneapolis started happening, here’s the facts:

  • it wasn’t george floyd’s protesters who started reacting violently; it was the cops.
  • the protest was peaceful until the cops showed up in riot gear, and started using water cannons, followed up by tear gas and rubber bullets. i got videos from friends who were there, of people screaming and running away from the cops shooting the water cannons, rubber bullets and throwing tear gas at them. they were even shooting at the protesters dragging people away to get medical attention.
  • speaking of medical attention, dispatch refused to provide any medical attention to the protesters. people literally had to drive their bleeding friends to the hospital because they refused to send ambulances.
  • cops are using non-lethal weapons in a lethal way. they shot rubber bullets into people’s heads and injured them. there’s dozens of photos of protesters with bleeding head wounds from the rubber bullets.
  • multiple people used police scanners and heard that there were undercover cops pretending to be violent protesters who were throwing rocks and whatnot at the police, with dozens of eyewitness accounts confirming that information.
  • the person who instigated all the chaos last night (it was a fire at an autozone) with the looting and burning buildings is highly suspected to be an undercover cop pretending to be a protester, because the video of him keeps getting taken down. protesters tried to stop him but couldn’t because he had a hammer and they were scared for their safety.
  • the cops jammed cell phone towers and cut live streams to interrupt broadcasts and to prevent people from seeing what was really going on and who actually started the violence.
  • the cops lied about protesters being armed and about throwing rocks and are literally trying to continue the violence happening and yet no one is holding them accountable for that.
  • and during all this, the cop that murdered george floyd still hasn’t been arrested. he has had more than ten complaints filed against him and was involved in three other civilian shootings in the past. and yet he’s still out free along with his three other buddies involved, probably sitting on his couch while all this chaos is happening.

so don’t get it twisted. the cops just want to change the narrative to make it look like they’re the wounded and righteous party, when they’re the ones who started reacting violently in the first place and are still acting violently. so don’t you ever forget who started this tragedy and murdered someone, and who are continuing to react to the situation with violence.
