I’m back
In a show that often had to leave stuff out and cut to the essential, it never ceases to amaze me how TCW always took the time to establish the Jedi Council as genuinely likeable people.
Eeth Koth gets captured (and tortured) by Grievous because he ordered his troops to flee while he stayed behind. He’s even upset that rescuing him was made a priority.
Plo Koon is the ultimate Dad.
Kit Fisto is always smiling and is soooo gentle when he rescues Barris and Ahsoka. He’s just so warm and fun, winking at people and cracking jokes.
Yoda spends the first TCW episode ever teaching three clones that they have value, that who they are matter and that he knows them and cares. He’s always smiling and chuckling when he’s around kids.
Even Piell is really funny and enduring, cracking jokes minutes after being rescued from weeks of torture.
Shaak Ti is really soft and warm and gentle and everything you’d want a teacher to be.
Jocasta Nu is a delight.
Adi Gallia is incredibly badass and very gentle when she rescues Eeth. She’s always leading her men from the front, like every other Jedi we see.
Saesee Tiin looks and sounds *really* sad when he reminds Obi-Wan that Ahsoka looks hella guilty.
Ki-Adi-Mundi is the most stern of the bunch imo, and even he is shown to goof around with Anakin when Obi-Wan himself wouldn’t play the “who destroyed the most droids” game.
Mace banters with Anakin (who calls him by his first name several times), spends 75% of his onscreen time protecting clones and smiles fairly often.
Obi-Wan… Well, is Obi-Wan. I ain’t got a thousand years on my hands to elaborate on his goodness.
It’s all the little details, and the fact that those little details are even there says so much about how the Council is intended to be perceived. Lucas and Filoni took extra care to establish them all as good guys. Even more, as nice people. They could have easily been a bunch of old hardasses from the same species, but they’re not. They’re diverse, they’re of varying ages and personalities, and many of them have very developed senses of humour.
Like, I’d want to hang out with them.
