as much as i like wintergreen, no matter what he will always be a disappointing slade enabler and defender.

he defends slades insane behaviour towards his kids by claiming “oh thats just how he expresses his feelings, of course he loves you!” and he excuses it no matter how weird it is.

also the excuses for his behaviour by claiming “thats how he shows love” only conditions them to believe that thats the only type of ‘love’ theyre worthy of from their father.

this panel too makes me crazy like… non of the behaviour is excusable on slades part and i understand that in a way, yes, that IS pretty much slades thought process but… you shouldnt be encouraging it? you shouldnt be telling his kids that its normal and what else should they expect? wintergreen KNOWS its horrible but he doesnt really care

he also makes them feel guilty and as though they have to stay around for his sake. like, this current behaviour is the nicest theyll ever get from slade and they shouldnt expect more. regardless of how much he may care for rose, he will always care about slade more.

i like wintergreen - but sometimes i think its important to recognise that he is nowhere near the good, loving father figure we want him to be for rose.
