I don't know if this was always mentioned, but I personally headcannon Daroach, being the charming gentleman thief he is, likes to playfully flirt with Susie from time to time. Either to steal something from her, or just to mess with her.

Gentleman thief vs Business woman just seems like a fun dynamic to play with!

Anon, I am shaking your hand...!

Yes, I think they have a potentially wonderful dynamic and ought to interact WAY more than they do! Red and Pink. Grey and White. Rich business woman and literal RAT MAN. (Both "ice" themed too.)

...Not to mention that before she was a CEO, Susie fashioned herself as a "corporate spy" working against her father! Spy vs Thief, anyone? She may know some tricks of her own from that particular skillset! And boy, wouldn't THAT be a fun conversation to listen in on!

(And yet you can see how they would have completely different outtakes on life, too! Business and order versus the free life of a phantom thief! A woman who is always looking centuries forward technology-wise vs a rat man who acts and dresses like he's from an 18th century crime novel, including fantasy steampunk tech.)

Now, I'm one of the odd ones who sees *most* of the cast as adults, including those that others don't (it's a personal attachment / investment + wanting to see more spectrum-coded adults in fiction thing) but I can appreciate the fun of having the ones who feel the most "inarguably adult" have a little playful "strictly business" flirting!

-

Not that the ask was specifically about shipping as much as simply how Daroach talks to her (and lets be honest, guy probably flirts w/ MOST people) but when it comes to actual -interest-/sexuality HC, I enjoy me some (Dark) Metaroach and ZanSusie, but those two are at LEAST bi! I feel they can have a little ship tease!/lh

-

Edit: Right as I was sending this post to the queue, my brain whispered “Why do they need to be messing with EACH OTHER when they could COOPERATE?” And floated me a mental picture of some one-shot evil corporation that Daroach and Susie have BOTH infiltrated separately (in disguise) to get dirt on, only to run into each other, recognize each other, and are encouraged to cooperate to get what they need!

…Kirby expanded cast animeeeeee…

You think Magolor and Susie would hire Adeleine for marketing and graphic design for their products?

I could see them both trying!

Adeleine, sweetie that she is, would probably be really shy about the offer at first, not sure she should accept, but also secretly SUPER EXCITED on the inside because, "Da-...ERR, King Dedede! Listen! I got my first 'professional' commission!"

Would it last past that? I dunno, lol...

I think both entrepreneurs would be incredibly happy with her demo piece for them! ...And then Susie, being Susie, would proceed to order a follow-up of 2,500 hand-drawn, personalized copies ("...Does two weeks sound like enough time? I'm on a schedule here. Oh, and if you can sign this ti~ny little non-compete clause!")

While Magolor would bug her for endless variations and changes until it's an entirely different piece of art; ad infinitum. ("Now, this is all still one commission, so I don't owe you anything extra, right?" "A-Actually..." "Wonderful! Pleasure doing business with you!"

(Note that despite writing them as commissioner horror stories here, I don't see either of them as awful people. They're just quirky, as all our beloved cast members are. And, in this specific instance, a little short-sighted. ^^ )

Cue a burnt-out Adeleine sitting in the grass with a thousand yard stare. That is until Kirby, Ribbon, and Gooey come by to play and help remind her that her art is best when it's both personal and fun!

Haha… Is it clear yet how desperately I would want to be on the writing staff of a Kirby ensemble cast animated series? XD (Comic works too!)

Addendum for the Wave 2 Fans:

Daroach and Dark Meta Knight (respectively) are the ones who show up to “correct” Susie and Magolor about their misuse of Adeleine’s good will.

Daroach gives Susie an eloquent and stirring speech (simultaneously a distraction so The Squeaks can make off with some hot tech in the background) while DMK just haunts Magolor like Poe’s The Raven (or, lol, Brandon Lee’s The Crow) until Magolor tearfully confesses his misdeeds and that he knew he was wrong…! He’ll do better! He promises!!

"U-um... Susie? I'm glad you like the demo, and I really appreciate this, but I... think that might be too much work for me? Two weeks... I mean, I just do this for fun, I'm *laughs* not a robot or something, you know?"

"Oh, I suppose that makes sense. That's the sort of deadline the company usually has for these kinds of things, but we do have a production line. Hm... (I really would like those follow-ups, though. Maybe I should...)"

"W-whatever you're thinking, please reconsider!" .·°՞(≧□≦)՞°·.

(And so, she ended up asking Daroach for help.)

Ah, yes! "Botsu-san" my beloved!

So, in the 20th Anniversary Pupupu Encyclopedia, released in 2012, a certain page detailed some unused settei ("development material") from the legendary unreleased Kirby Gamecube game!

Among those was who we are calling "Botsu-san." While no information was included with him, his design, colors, and size spelled it out pretty clearly: he just had to have been planned as the last boss of the cancelled Kirby GC! (tbd) And we just love our last bosses! (Whether they exist in this reality or not, apparently! XD)

It's not hard to see why people latched onto him, especially as this book released a year after Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and he basically looks like Magolor's big scary cousin! (Again, we have no information on "him", so any potential relation is left to speculation!)

So why do we call him "Botsu-san" and what does it mean? Well, 没 means "rejected/unused", as in "unused production materials."

For example, THIS is a "botsu" Magolor:

And THESE are "botsu" Susies:

The "-san" in his name is just a cutesy addition to indicate we are talking about this unused design as if he were a real character.

Still, there's nothing unusual or stand out about the word "botsu." It's used all the time in anime, manga, and game production as designs go through several stages before they meet approval!

What makes Kirby's "Botsu-san" unique is just the fact that people find him compelling, due to the fact that his extremely cool design already speaks to him having an interesting story! (Is he an Ancient? A Halcandran? Someone like Nightmare or Necrodeus?)

Lastly, what's sprung him into popularity in recent years is the revelation that Morpho Knight was also originally an unused design from the GC days that was later brought back as a full-fledged character! So there is still hope we might see "Botsu-san" again!!

And now you know!

...UH OH...

Just kidding as this is all very good stuff, Mechalor Anon! Can't draw it, because it's a lot, but I will drop some corresponding text/lore on you, based specifically on your "The HWC misguidedly brings Zero Three back in Planet Robobot" concept (with a touch of the sword/brush thing) because it did latch onto my brain!!

(This is the LAST major event I do in this doomed timeline though)(1)

I recently found out that “weekend Susie” is a mistranslation and it’s actually called “susie on vacation” in jpn. I’m pretty sure she’s supposed to be Susie in the future like Manager Magolor..any ideas on why shes missing her hairclip and the “Secretary” title she always has in jpn? Susie is so hard to figure out..like how she only smiles three times in the entirety of robobot (once when she takes the program controller and twice when singing the noble haltmann but ONLY when saying the words father in jpn) so I’m curious on what your thoughts are on her (and unfortunately has the worst localization ever…i had to look at the robobot translations from @/kaialone on tumblr) sorry for rambling but shes so interesting to me and it’s a bit sad seeing how a lot of the details she has in characterization never get talked about

Anon...Did you somehow know I've been replaying Robobot in Japanese?! And it's basically strengthened my confirmation that some people - though less than before - are a bit too harsh and/or restrictive in their takes on both Susie and her father.

That said, I do I try to give people room to "safely hate" these fictional characters as, for a lot of people, it may be one of their only ways of processing a gross problem that affects the real world/so much of history that they can't do much about.

But I love the silly/tragic Haltmann family. I'm sympathetic and even semi-defensive towards 'em. Which is why I'm happy to answer any good faith Haltmann asks.

Ahem! Also, before I get into it, I wanted to say that technically "Weekend Susie" vs "Susie on Vacation" is not a mistranslation per se.

What it IS is a localization.

A-ahem. Starting over again...

@newthinkerer found THS post and said to me: "I'm sure the Kirby fandom has done something to grind your gears."

Which, in truth, the answer is not lately / not really no. ^^; But it wasn't hard to reach in and find some "comical outrage" style gear-grindy answers for those who find such rants entertaining! So, here those are for everyone's (hopeful) enjoyment

[Original Response Below] Ohhh? Did you want "Salty" Dess? XD Let's go down the list...!

Marx / Reduced to one single trait

Look, I know the games don't give people much to go on, but a lot of people (1) seem ha~ppy to come up with pages and pages of backstory for all the other characters - but Marx? Nope. Marx is the one character who people seem almost allergic to rounding out when he is RIPE with mystery and potential. "But the game doesn't tell us anything about him so maybe he isn't that big of a deal, Dess?" Tsk! The game tells us just as little about Meta Knight! The only difference is the number of appearances! Use your imagination, people!

Okay wait no I need to hear more about those grief nights with alcohol and yelling

"...Oh, routine maintenance. Then one of the Haltworkers decided to ask me if we could '...replace the company song.'"

"Ah..."

"'Replace the company song.' What do they recommend we change it to exactly? 'Ding dong, my father's dead!?' Ugh. I feel just the worst... Tell me your day went better...?"

"My day wasn't SO bad. Not really. At least...it wasn't til I overheard some of the drones talking."

"God, what did they say?"

"Nothing unexpected really! The same thing they write to me in all the official appeals, just...whispered behind my back this time... 'We need a new leader, it's well past time!' 'Taranza can't keep putting it off forever!' But... can't I...?"

"Bah! Let them wait! Really! Screw anyone who doesn't understand that mourning periods don't run according to the company clock!"

"And that's the aggravating thing! They only live for seven years! I know it seems like forever to them but Joronia and I...we spent seven years building the first and SMALLEST of her summer palaces!"

(It actually started out as a tree fort that got way out of hand...)

"Haha! If my life had ended at seven years old, it would have been a BLESSED one! They ought to be grateful they'll only have seven years worth of trauma to bear!"

"Even if I COULD replace her - which I CAN'T and WON'T - how long do they think that process is supposed to take?!"

"Everyone's always so quick to kick memories out the door! They'll miss them when they're gone... TRUST me."

" " Thank god you understand" "

Have you gone over your interpreted dynamics that Magolor, Susie and Taranza may have with each other? (asking for 1-on-1 each, so three dynamics total)

My apologies if you've gone over them already, I just don't recall.

Avatar

I have not!

In fact, I don't think I've done many character + character dynamics, so please, everyone interested, I request you send me even more combos! (Must...clean all this angst...off my dashboard...!)

Now then! Onto the dynamics!

Yknow, revisiting the early Apologies stuff, now I'm wondering how Taranza would react to finding out Susie has genetic samples from Sectonia. Would probably go very differently from Adeleine learning about DMS (since unlike Adeleine, who was finding out about Noir's fate for the first time, Taranza knows what happened to Sectonia), but I still imagine it might dredge up some bad memories.

Anon, you have very good ideas.

"What happened to the other sample I was keeping in here?"

Kirby Characters + Poker

:guilty look: I, uh, completely and unrepentantly stole this ask from @stardustshimmer because I love card games so so very much! (Even though I myself am not all that great at them.)

Anyway, I just really wanted an excuse to write a about the Dream Team + Dream Friends various competitive poker abilities so I did. >.>

-

Kirby: Knows the basic rules but not much else. Has no poker face and plays absolutely no mind games but is blessed with amazing luck and will pull off hands that don't seem physically possible and as a result, they do decently in spite of everything. Whenever they're playing with Dedede, everyone tends to gather around to watch because without fail Dedede will lose. It's completely uncanny.

Bandanna Waddle Dee: Doesn't like to play mind games or bluff but always maintains a level head so he usually never ends up the biggest loser at the table. When he wins, it's almost always an honest win.

Meta Knight: Ostensibly has a great poker face, given his mask, but it's the rest of his body and posture that gives him away in the end. And while he always maintains his cool in the first half of the game, making wise decisions and analytical judgements about the deck, as the night goes on, he slowly begins giving away every.single.hand.

King Dedede: Competitive games are his thing! His poker face is to be SMUG CONSTANTLY. Great player who runs into problems only because it is monstrously easy to bait him. Also addicted to getting high card combos and will never settle for the "smaller" win. ("High card pair? HA! I bet I can get a straight flush!" :gets dealt nothing:)

First off, Anon, thank you! Second, I loved your ideas (which is why I'm going to paste them at the end of this ask) but I also ended up spinning this off in a completey different direction! ^^

I started with summarizing Marx and the Haltmanns because I had the strongest concept for them. Buckle in folks, this is LONG...!!

It's time for a Villain Swap!! (With pictures!)

Bonus doodles because I had WAY too much fun with this one!
