A little sketch for the accidental second (or third?) of the Thematically Noir Songs || Gotye's "The Only Thing I Know"

To me, this is 100% a song about the Summer Trio. Or how they came undone when those bonds were destroyed forever.

I could see them both trying!

Adeleine, sweetie that she is, would probably be really shy about the offer at first, not sure she should accept, but also secretly SUPER EXCITED on the inside because, "Da-...ERR, King Dedede! Listen! I got my first 'professional' commission!"

Would it last past that? I dunno, lol...

I think both entrepreneurs would be incredibly happy with her demo piece for them! ...And then Susie, being Susie, would proceed to order a follow-up of 2,500 hand-drawn, personalized copies ("...Does two weeks sound like enough time? I'm on a schedule here. Oh, and if you can sign this ti~ny little non-compete clause!")

While Magolor would bug her for endless variations and changes until it's an entirely different piece of art; ad infinitum. ("Now, this is all still one commission, so I don't owe you anything extra, right?" "A-Actually..." "Wonderful! Pleasure doing business with you!") 

(Note that despite writing them as commissioner horror stories here, I don't see either of them as awful people. They're just quirky, as all our beloved cast members are. And, in this specific instance, a little short-sighted. ^^ )

Cue a burnt-out Adeleine sitting in the grass with a thousand yard stare. That is until Kirby, Ribbon, and Gooey come by to play and help remind her that her art is best when it's both personal and fun!

Haha… Is it clear yet how desperately I would want to be on the writing staff of a Kirby ensemble cast animated series? XD (Comic works too!)

"Apologies AU" Summary Part 1

Long, long ago, Earth experienced a radical climate shift that meant within as little as two generations, the planet would no longer be habitable for humans. A desperate humanity sought a new home for themselves and their progeny, eventually discovering the perfect place to start over, a planet they dubbed "The New World."

The New World was to be more than humanity's second chance at life. It would be an ideal society: all of humankind's greatness and triumph built side by side with nature, so the problems of the old world would not follow. Humanity began migrating in waves, the most privileged and wealthy and their loyalists first, of course.

Eventually, everyone would get a new lease on life.

Yes... surely...

One day, upon this fresh new world an alien life form crashed. Mysterious. Powerful. Dangerous. Also weak. Too weak to evade capture. And soon...life began to change. The people of The New World slowly turned their eyes away from those they'd left behind in their ugly past, their gaze fixed on a dream-like future. Advancement. Progress. Technology akin-to-magic. A galaxy of possibilities.

It could be theirs. It would be theirs. At any cost. Those in power would make sure of it.

Animal experiments... Human experiments...

Among these experiments was a woman with a voice so beautiful hearing her was to feel like your greatest Dream had come true...  She would fall in love with a man with a Heart so great he left his home to try and return this troubled species to the right path...

...From their union, two children would be born. 

The eldest, a boy, bore great Darkness within him. The abstract nature of his gifts proved of small interest to Lab Discovera at first, and he was tentatively returned to the care of his parents.

The second, a little girl, was a powerful vessel for Soul matter. The ability to create life, not just manipulate it. To bring something into being from nothing.

She, they wanted desperately! For they did not see a child or even a living creature, but a tool from which they could wrest their desired future of absolute control. The wielders of Dream and Heart would not hear of sacrificing their progeny for these twisted goals!

Considered fugitives from The New World for fleeing with precious "experimental equipment" they hid themselves the only place they thought safe: Old Earth, now little more than a dumping ground for exiles and failed or "disappointing" experiments, often sent down as trinkets to pacify the urban warlords who ruled over the depressed, powerless survivors of this slowly collapsing society.

The family of four lived as best as they could in the increasingly cold and harsh modern wasteland, seen as traitors to their neighbors for having worked closely with Old Earth's privileged oppressors. The children were able to avoid capture, at least.

But their parents would not live to see them grow up...

Soooo, that last post about Noir and Adeleine's parents inspired a series of Apologies AU lore questions on the Kirby OC Tournament Discord! There was a lot so I'll just share what I wrote here!

A Pokemon who feeds off of gloomy emotion and a Pokemon who doesn't like being exposed to strong negative emotions!

They're the perfect partners for these two!

What's that about their typing? Ohhh, you can IGNORE that! Silly French people...!

"...You really draw every day. Even when there's only snow outside to look at. That notebook's almost out of room. Both sides!"

"That's because I want to be an artist when I grow up!"

"Are you sure? Not a musician like last time?"

"This time I'm serious! I want to make pictures that are SO real it's like they've come to life before your eyes! Then, I can show people places and things they've never seen before! Even different planets!"

"I wouldn't mind seeing a different planet. You've got me sold!"

(...We're...going to die... Both of us...)

(We're never going to grow up... Even if we avoid getting killed by another whacko... We'll either freeze to death or starve to death... They talk about it all the time... The ports are barely staffed and they don't evacuate more than a handful a year... I've heard them call Old Earth a 'prison colony.' Some even called it a death camp...)

(...One prediction says Summer's only going to last around 10 more years before it'll be too cold to go out in ...We'll be in our twenties then...What point is there in thinking about the future when you know you have none...?)

"Noir?"

"I want to be...your big brother."

"My...? Noirrr, that's not an answer!! Don't tell me you haven't thought about it! It's THE most important question! ...Okay! Looks like it's time for me to step up and be the big sister! First, we list your positive qualities! Second, we look at your aptitudes and......"

It was inevitable that at some point my roughly canon-inspired-character-turned-pseudo-OC and the canon-character-I-rewrote-to-make-his-HC-backstory-work would show up here, right? ^^

But seriously, despite the name of the prompt, this image immediately struck me as looking like one model desperately trying to pull the other model away from something and so...!

A kindhearted teen beneath the surface, growing up amidst humanity's depressive twilight hours on a hostile, frozen wasteland, plus a lifetime of tragedies no one his age should have to bear, has hardened Noir into a sarcastic, sassy little edgelord with a bitter tongue that's as sharp as his cursed sword, both of which he'll turn on anything he finds threatening with little provocation.

Noir's oodles and caboodles of twitchy paranoia combined with him having the approachability of a flea-ridden alley cat, makes breaking the thick ice to touch the heart of the scarred boy hiding beneath a task for only the most patient (or masochistic) of souls.

...And even then, he'll still sass you.
