Two teenagers die horribly, one being unjustly murdered, while they other slowly rots his soul away until his nothing more but a shadow of his former self (without even accounting for the other vile crap he was put through) While the youngest is left without her family, forever frozen in time in the body of a child that will never grow up, with only broken memories of her loved ones...

In the same universe:

Pink puffball shrinks down into a tiny ball and proceeds to scarf down as many strawberries as possible on a cake while racing look-alikes.

I thought it was funny how this ask coincidentally built off the last comic XD

"The Only Thing I Know"

"...It's still blood shed..."

A little sketch for the accidental second (or third?) of the Thematically Noir Songs || Gotye's "The Only Thing I Know"

To me, this is 100% a song about the Summer Trio. Or how they came undone when those bonds were destroyed forever.

About Apologies au... I get that it's mainly about Noir and Adeleine's relationship. But, I have to ask. Since Adeleine likes to tease Noir about not having any friends (Aside from Raquelle), did she have any? I get there probably weren't many people on shiver star, and I know Adeleine got bullied. But... I assume she went to school and... Did she at least manage to make one friend of her own? That perhaps Noir didn't know about? Even if it was for a short time?

That is a good question! Time for Dess to actually get wordy (and surprisingly frank!) about the AU’s setting!

[CW: mention of grooming, abuse behind the read more]

...I think that, toward the end, as the environment became increasingly harsh, most kids (...what kids there even were...) tended to grow up under some form of home-schooling.

Now, that would be for people who still lived with some form of privilege in Shiver Stars troubled twilight years. Everyone else was probably bustled off into learning whatever tasks were necessary to keep up the planet's survival instead of math, literature, art...

Noir probably got a shockingly good education for the few year he and his parents still lived on the New World, and I'd like to think that Neichel and Rim continued to try and provide both their kids with an education after fleeing to Earth. (Thus why Noir has a penchant for storytelling and Adeleine for music...that, btw, only transformed into drawing AFTER the death of their parents, when a frightened young Noir, who had the distinct - and not incorrect - feeling they'd been murdered because of who they were - swore himself and Adeleine to silence about the lives they lived before...)

For an actually good Kirby movie idea that still has the mandated "relatable real person": Kirby's clash with Eifilis (which takes place on Shiver Star) causes Kirby to be sent back in time to when Earth was Earth, leading to Kirby making friends with a struggling autistic kid. Kirby, wanting to make sure his new friend stays alive, brings him into the future... Unfortunately, this kid was important to the future of Kirby, being the basis of Zero's negative energy, so Kirby is faced with a dilemma: fix his present, and cause the kid to suffer, or sit in an unfamiliar future, with a friend whose no longer in pain.

Ooh, I think you've got something GOOD going here! In combination with @newthinkerer’s “Kirby movies by decade” this feels like a movie plot that really could have happened! (Give or take the use of the Forgotten Land and Elfilis as major plot points, which would otherwise necessitate it as a “newish” thing.)

Now, I'm a child of the 80s >w> so I can easily envision this as an undiscovered 2D animated movie of that era, in the vein of like, the Rainbow Brite movie, that ends up with surprising amounts of heart despite also playing a little fast and loose with canon! (And experiences a revival in light of the terrible Hollywood Kirby! XD)

It would probably also have a weirdly catchy earworm of an ending song that would have the hardcores combing through used stores and internet archives trying to find the cleanest rip of... (COUGH)

Listen half these lyrics sound like they COULD come from a Kirby movie!!

“frankly if they made a movie with the "relatable real person" and didn't use adeline for the role i would be shocked because of how obvious of an idea it is, she is already a real character who is one of the 2 humans that we see in the setting(with the other one being kirby universe's equivalent of samus),who has very little lore(as far as i remenber the most backstory we get from her is that she went to popstar to study art in the K64 manual wich is frequently ignored) and has ties to what is by far one of the dark matter trilogy wich is one of the best stories to adapt to a kirby movie and you can easily do a emotional climax by having adeline being possessed as a nod to the source material(wich feeds into my extremely Sisyphean hope that the series will one day explore the eldritch horrors of its antagonists form a POV that isn't kirby's)”

I’m of two minds.

I would say my main argument against using Adeleine for THIS is that, as a big Adeleine fan, I’m hesitant to see her worked into the “ingenue in distress” role! I’m a fan of her character (thin as it is, officially) which is why I try to be careful in my own use of her.

You think Magolor and Susie would hire Adeleine for marketing and graphic design for their products?

I could see them both trying!

Adeleine, sweetie that she is, would probably be really shy about the offer at first, not sure she should accept, but also secretly SUPER EXCITED on the inside because, "Da-...ERR, King Dedede! Listen! I got my first 'professional' commission!"

Would it last past that? I dunno, lol...

I think both entrepreneurs would be incredibly happy with her demo piece for them! ...And then Susie, being Susie, would proceed to order a follow-up of 2,500 hand-drawn, personalized copies ("...Does two weeks sound like enough time? I'm on a schedule here. Oh, and if you can sign this ti~ny little non-compete clause!")

While Magolor would bug her for endless variations and changes until it's an entirely different piece of art; ad infinitum. ("Now, this is all still one commission, so I don't owe you anything extra, right?" "A-Actually..." "Wonderful! Pleasure doing business with you!"

(Note that despite writing them as commissioner horror stories here, I don't see either of them as awful people. They're just quirky, as all our beloved cast members are. And, in this specific instance, a little short-sighted. ^^ )

Cue a burnt-out Adeleine sitting in the grass with a thousand yard stare. That is until Kirby, Ribbon, and Gooey come by to play and help remind her that her art is best when it's both personal and fun!

Haha… Is it clear yet how desperately I would want to be on the writing staff of a Kirby ensemble cast animated series? XD (Comic works too!)

Addendum for the Wave 2 Fans:

Daroach and Dark Meta Knight (respectively) are the ones who show up to “correct” Susie and Magolor about their misuse of Adeleine’s good will.

Daroach gives Susie an eloquent and stirring speech (simultaneously a distraction so The Squeaks can make off with some hot tech in the background) while DMK just haunts Magolor like Poe’s The Raven (or, lol, Brandon Lee’s The Crow) until Magolor tearfully confesses his misdeeds and that he knew he was wrong…! He’ll do better! He promises!!

"U-um... Susie? I'm glad you like the demo, and I really appreciate this, but I... think that might be too much work for me? Two weeks... I mean, I just do this for fun, I'm *laughs* not a robot or something, you know?"

"Oh, I suppose that makes sense. That's the sort of deadline the company usually has for these kinds of things, but we do have a production line. Hm... (I really would like those follow-ups, though. Maybe I should...)"

"W-whatever you're thinking, please reconsider!" .·°՞(≧□≦)՞°·.

(And so, she ended up asking Daroach for help.)

"Apologies AU" Summary Part 1

-

Long, long ago, Earth experienced a radical climate shift that meant within as little as two generations, the planet would no longer be habitable for humans. A desperate humanity sought a new home for themselves and their progeny, eventually discovering the perfect place to start over, a planet they dubbed "The New World."

The New World was to be more than humanity's second chance at life. It would be an ideal society: all of humankind's greatness and triumph built side by side with nature, so the problems of the old world would not follow. Humanity began migrating in waves, the most privileged and wealthy and their loyalists first, of course.

Eventually, everyone would get a new lease on life.

Yes... surely...

One day, upon this fresh new world an alien life form crashed. Mysterious. Powerful. Dangerous. Also weak. Too weak to evade capture. And soon...life began to change. The people of The New World slowly turned their eyes away from those they'd left behind in their ugly past, their gaze fixed on a dream-like future. Advancement. Progress. Technology akin-to-magic. A galaxy of possibilities.

It could be theirs. It would be theirs. At any cost. Those in power would make sure of it.

Animal experiments... Human experiments...

Among these experiments was a woman with a voice so beautiful hearing her was to feel like your greatest Dream had come true...  She would fall in love with a man with a Heart so great he left his home to try and return this troubled species to the right path...

...From their union, two children would be born.

The eldest, a boy, bore great Darkness within him. The abstract nature of his gifts proved of small interest to Lab Discovera at first, and he was tentatively returned to the care of his parents.

The second, a little girl, was a powerful vessel for Soul matter. The ability to create life, not just manipulate it. To bring something into being from nothing.

She, they wanted desperately! For they did not see a child or even a living creature, but a tool from which they could wrest their desired future of absolute control. The wielders of Dream and Heart would not hear of sacrificing their progeny for these twisted goals!

Considered fugitives from The New World for fleeing with precious "experimental equipment" they hid themselves the only place they thought safe: Old Earth, now little more than a dumping ground for exiles and failed or "disappointing" experiments, often sent down as trinkets to pacify the urban warlords who ruled over the depressed, powerless survivors of this slowly collapsing society.

The family of four lived as best as they could in the increasingly cold and harsh modern wasteland, seen as traitors to their neighbors for having worked closely with Old Earth's privileged oppressors. The children were able to avoid capture, at least.

But their parents would not live to see them grow up...

"...You really draw every day. Even when there's only snow outside to look at. That notebook's almost out of room. Both sides!"

"That's because I want to be an artist when I grow up!"

"Are you sure? Not a musician like last time?"

"This time I'm serious! I want to make pictures that are SO real it's like they've come to life before your eyes! Then, I can show people places and things they've never seen before! Even different planets!"

"I wouldn't mind seeing a different planet. You've got me sold!"

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

"........."

(...We're...going to die... Both of us...)

(We're never going to grow up... Even if we avoid getting killed by another whacko... We'll either freeze to death or starve to death... They talk about it all the time... The ports are barely staffed and they don't evacuate more than a handful a year... I've heard them call Old Earth a 'prison colony.' Some even called it a death camp...)

(...One prediction says Summer's only going to last around 10 more years before it'll be too cold to go out in ...We'll be in our twenties then...What point is there in thinking about the future when you know you have none...?)

"Noir?"

"I want to be...your big brother."

"My...? Noirrr, that's not an answer!! Don't tell me you haven't thought about it! It's THE most important question! ...Okay! Looks like it's time for me to step up and be the big sister! First, we list your positive qualities! Second, we look at your aptitudes and......"

Inspired by this post by @desultory-novice where he talked about what would happen if the Dark Blade chose Adeleine instead. I'm calling this Apologies AU, AU: The Armed Painter and the Dyed Knight aka APDK

I uh... might have gone too far on the second page...

CW: Heavy blood, character death, and body dismemberment

Woke up feeling a little sick today but the details you put into this!!

I love how you took a bad end AU and (while it's still not happy, though that was the original premise) found a way to extend it into new territory!

Really liking the stuff with the paintbrush and the name of the AU.

The Sword quietly offing Raquelle too (gotta separate Adeleine from all her loved ones) then taking her form is very in character??

In fact...

(I'm sorry. I had to bring the braids back in the way they'd hurt the most)

Do you have any theories about the existence of batamon? They are a Kirby enemy.

Hey there, Batamon Anon! Yes, I see you quizzing the other blogs about Batamon! Your love and interest in this mysterious creatures is something I respect! I haven't read everyone else's theories about Batamon, so apologies if anyone goes over the same things!

Now, let's get to it.

First, you should know there is a word in Japanese to describe "cheap bootleg merchandise you can acquire through unlicensed channels." Can you guess what that word is?

...Battamon!

"Oh no! Adeleine has turned into a Battamon!"

image

There's a one letter difference (an extra T) but that is a common trick in Japanese to fantasy-fy a name. So, we know the Batamon are "bad copy Kirbys." But why?

Here I'd like to note Batamon only show up in Dream Land 3.

...After Zero has taken over Popstar

The connections between Void and Zero (...I'll answer that Void ask one of these days, I swear...) are too much to ignore, even if nothing can be stated about them definitively.

And what does Void do? Void COPIES things. (Like Kirby!) If Zero is a mature Void-born, capable of producing additional Dark Mater... can it (attempt to) produce Kirbys as well?

But Zero and Kirby are opposing forces!

...And MAYBE that's why the Batamon are bad copies. Because Zero, possessing only negative emotions (or no emotions) can only fake at the happiness and love that gave birth to a being like Kirby!

The Batamon don't hurt you. But neither can you reach out and touch them and hug them and share food with them either. Their hearts are sealed off. As Zero's is.

...Maybe!

It was inevitable that at some point my roughly canon-inspired-character-turned-pseudo-OC and the canon-character-I-rewrote-to-make-his-HC-backstory-work would show up here, right? ^^

But seriously, despite the name of the prompt, this image immediately struck me as looking like one model desperately trying to pull the other model away from something and so...!

Hahah! I'm back at it! My version of a happy ending @desultory-novice 's Apologies AU! Part 1 here!

Part 2/4

The portal to the New World is still open and much more stable, thanks to Elfilin. Adeleine takes a deep breath before entering the portal. Although time works differently in this world, it's night there too. “Luckyyyy, this makes sneaking around easier!” Adeleine is taking any positives to calm her nerves.

Part 2!!

Adeleine's thoughts here... They're so bittersweet! ; _ ; And Adeleine bravely trying to fight off a gnawcodile with her brush! (Honey, no!) But I'm loving the way the New World and the Beast Pack have developed in this!

...Adeleine wishing she could revisit her past now that it's out of reach... This is very similar to her mood in Arc 3, tbh... She really bought into every lie Noir told her and so thought she'd have time. That they'd BOTH have time to grow up and talk about things...

(And oh man, this reminds me I have to share what Noir told Adeleine about Raquelle, don't I? Haha... :suffering:)

"Whoever said 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions' left a lot of stuff out..."

[Name:] Noir Fontaine "...It's pronounced 'fawn-tan'"

[Reference Image:]

[Notes on Personality:]

"My pronouns are he/some-kind -of-planet-invading hellspawn, I guess."

A kindhearted teen beneath the surface, growing up amidst humanity's depressive twilight hours on a hostile, frozen wasteland, plus a lifetime of tragedies no one his age should have to bear, has hardened Noir into a sarcastic, sassy little edgelord with a bitter tongue that's as sharp as his cursed sword, both of which he'll turn on anything he finds threatening with little provocation.

Noir's oodles and caboodles of twitchy paranoia combined with him having the approachability of a flea-ridden alley cat, makes breaking the thick ice to touch the heart of the scarred boy hiding beneath a task for only the most patient (or masochistic) of souls.

...And even then, he'll still sass you.

Likes: storytelling, games, the night sky, his siblings Dislikes: violence, crowds, touch, food, opening up

[Backstory and Lore:]

"...My life had way more talking plushies playing key roles than I'd have guessed."
