A writer with a love for ToH, and it's most beloved Enemies-to-Lovers ship, Skarlow. Check out more of my socials at my linktree here. Check out my commissioned art blog at "The Beautiful Art of Skarlow."
I honestly wish Skarlow could have been a bigger ship because honestly, not only is it one of the cutest ships ever conceived of, even with Skara’s lack of deserved development and on screen interactions with Willow, but it’s also one of the most versatile.
Give me Skarlow fluff. Give me stories of Skara and Willow dates, where they go to Flyer Derby games and Skara hyperfixates on the different strategies and Willow listens because she loves hearing Skara happy. Give me stories of Skara serenading Willow throughout their relationship, from their first date to Skara’s proposal to when they’re old and grey, always bringing a smile to Willow’s face. Give me Willow showing Skara how to garden, causing Skara much pain due to BI plants, but still pushing through in wackier ways to do something with Willow she enjoys.
Give me Skarlow angst. Give me stories of Skara developing a crush on Willow only to remember how she bullied her, and Skara trying to push those feelings down because she doesn’t think Willow could ever feel the same about her. Give me stories of Willow throwing herself into danger constantly for Skara, protecting her from literally everything because she’s so scared of losing her again after The Day of Unity. Give me stories of Skara saying an offhand comment that accidentally reminds Willow of their past, and having the two girls need to talk about their feelings on the matter openly and honestly for their relationship to work.
Give me Skarlow anything. There’s so many different ways I feel you can handle Skarlow, for sweet or bitter reasons, and it’s a shame there’s no real stories out there about them that isn’t done by me or Q, or isn’t really short…
I’m still down to answer questions or hear beadcannons btw, in case anyone has anything to ask me or wanted to write out.
Just, please, don’t ask me something stupid like I don’t know how the Hexsquad would react to a random racially charged human fight and yes that… that has happened.
A Couple New Hexside Angsty Skarlow Headcannons cause It’s That Kinda Night.
Skara only became a Scout to find Willow. And the other Entrails, of course. To that end, she would often sneak away from the others to try and check locations she thinks Willow could be hiding out in, even going to The Owl House at one point, but leaving when all she found were rats and graffiti.
Skara kept a diary of the events of New Hexside, documenting all sorts of adventures, like fighting a crazed group of Emperors Coven loyalists, or finding a weird bug in her rations once. But she tends to get sidetracked on the less eventful days, rambling on about how much she misses Willow. And the others, too.
One day, Boscha tried to ‘make amends’ with Skara, summoning her to her ‘private quarters’ (I.e. the Principals Office) for a ‘feast’ (a bunch of sweets she confiscated, many of which were Skara’s favorites). She sweet talked Skara, promised to get Miki under control, even (reluctantly) apologized for some of the more… extreme behavior that ended up ruining their friendship. And Skara’s all happy to join Boscha and be her new right hand. Until Boscha mentions ‘Half-a-Witch.’ And Skara immediately bristles at that. She grabs a handful of sweets to shove in her pockets and leaves without saying another word, pissing off Boscha something fierce.
Viney and Skara play makeshift games of Flyer Derby in the New Hexside halls when the others are asleep. And afterwords they reminisce about ‘the good ol’ days,’ before The Day of Unity. Skara in particular loves talking about how cool it was seeing Willow in action, how good of a leader she is, and how much she misses her.
Viney knows about Skara’s feelings before even she does. Skara mistakes/lies to herself about them being standard friendly feelings, but Viney can tell how much Skara feels for Willow. How desperate she is to find her again. How much it hurts her each day Skara doesn’t find her. Viney knows Skara likes Willow, and she wishes it didn’t have to be this way…
Later, Boscha spots Skara and gets angry at her. She mocks her for leaving the meeting, yells at her for abandoning her like Amity did, and Skara just keeps walking, trying to get as far away from this as possible. But when Boscha mentions ‘Half-a-Witch,’ Skara snaps, hurling her former best friend back with a massive wind spell. When Boscha stands up, Skara casts a Bard spell to silence her, telling the triclops to never say those words again. But when Boscha recovers, she croaks out an angry ‘She’s probably dead.’ And Skara just stops, stands there a moment… and runs away.
Skara ends up in the Secret Room of Shortcuts, where Viney is hanging out with Puddles, while she begins to have a panic attack. She rants about Boscha, yells about how unfair the apocalypse has been, but mostly she just cries, and cries, and cries, about Willow. She misses her team captain, misses her smile, her determination, her confidence. Willow would have beaten The Collector and ended this by now, she knows it. If anyone could save the Isles it would be her. And she just grabs Viney’s shirt and begs her to tell her Willow’s out there, pleads with her to say that Willow’s ok and safe. And Viney just hugs her friend and strokes her hair and tells her it’s going to be ok as Skara continues to sob. And it’s that night, after her panic attack, after Viney helped her get some sleep curled up with Puddles, that Skara finally accepts that she doesn’t just miss Willow. She loves her.
The next days diary page is mostly a rambling mess, both in terms of its writing and in terms of it being covered in tears. But a few words stand out. ‘Sorry’ is used often, along with ‘Love’ and ‘Deserve Better.’
I've answered this before a looooooooong time ago, here with double date headcannons for some other ships. The basic idea was that they'd go on chaotic dates, mostly thanks to Luz and Skara's chaotic bisexual energy. But I think I can do a bit better now, and write something a little more detailed.
So, what would an official Skarlow-Lumity Double Date look like?
Since the four are such awesome friends already, they often hang out together a lot without ever calling them double dates. Hanging out at lunch, sleepovers, their own group chat. So a lot of their double dates aren’t even necessarily official. However, they still do officially make double dates on occasion, usually whenever big events are happening, like a fair or a Grudgby game. Skara’s usually the one who suggests a place to go, since she spends a lot of time scrolling through Penstagram ads already to find the stuff like new outfits to woo Willow with. Once she finds something, she sends it to the others, who, schedules permitting, agree to go, with Amity and Skara usually buying the tickets.
A popular trope for the four is games of Grudgby or Flyer Derby. Given that all of them love sports to one capacity or another, they’re always happy to attend the BoneYard, Bonesburough’s local stadium, to watch whichever game is going down. Amity and Luz are particularly fond of the Grudgby matches, since Amity likes to regale Luz with stories of how she totally owned all her opponents back when she played in the Banshees. Willow and Skara, meanwhile, adore the Flyer Derby games, though Skara often spends most of the matches either jotting down notes for strategies she gets inspired to make or yelling about clearly bad strategies the teams try to pull off. On more then one occasion, Skara’s had to get gently reminded by Willow to stop rambling angrily about one bad play or another. The four usually end up having an awesome time together though, especially since the BoneYard sells decent (or in Luz’s case, edible) concessions.
Another popular date night for the four is fairs and carnivals. These often get Luz and Skara excited the most because they love the rides and games, while Willow and Amity enjoy the atmosphere and seeing their partners giddy. Whenever they go to one, Skara will no doubt spend a decent chunk of her Snails trying to win a top-shelf prize for Willow, though she’ll often end up with a slew of lower shelf prizes Willow is no less grateful for. Willow just plays a round or two of games of strengths, which tends to mean Skara gets teddy bears the size of herself. Amity often complains the games are rigged, but she still try’s to win something big for Luz anyway, which Luz appreciates and often reciprocates. And after the games and some Rotten Candy, the four love to go on rides together, whether they be romantic boat rides with their partner through the Tunnel of Love, or wild, mad roller coasters that are probably more dangerous then anything in the human world.
Occasionally, the four set up impromptu sleepovers at the Owl House together, which aren’t really called double dates but have the same vibes. They’re usually a lot more chill then their other options, with the girls doing anything from watching movies to truth or dare to spooky ghost stories. These tend to be the dates the four most intermingle in, often even with pillow fight with Luz and Skara on one side and Willow and Amity on the other (Willow usually wins, of coursec, but they still all enjoy them). Still, both couples like to snuggle up after it’s all over and fall asleep. Luz, rubbing her chin against Amity’s shoulder as they gently fall asleep. Skara, holding onto Willow in a foolish attempt to stop her from flailing about the entire night and throwing her out of their sleeping bag.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how much would you say you like Skarlow?
A more appropriate scale would be something like… 1 to (insert the amount of money I paid for skarlow art commissions plus the amount of hours I’ve written skarlow fanfiction for). But either way the answer is infinity, so
So how would Skara and willow become an actual couple? I’m only asking because you have a few different answers.
Unfortunately, I'm not certain what to say, because if you're asking me 'How canonically would Skara and Willow get together,' it's kind of difficult one to answer.
The reason I've given so many answer's as to how Skara and Willow become a couple is because A) People asked often for different variations of it, and B) The show itself doesn't give a lot insight into their relationship, so a lot of speculation's can be made. We know Skara bullied Willow in the past, and we know now the two are friends, but a lot of specifics and nitty gritty details are less clear. The show never even gives a hand-wavey explanation for why Skara and Willow became friends, for Titan's sake. It can make for pretty fun speculation fodder and fan theorizing, but it also means creating a perfectly 100% show accurate answer to how Willow and Skara start dating involves a great deal of headcannoning, and also would involve explaining how Huntlow would break up since it's fairly obvious the intention at the end is that the two are in some form of romantic relationship.
I dooooooooo have something of an idea, a potential outline for a long-term Skarlow focused post-timeskip fanfic I'd be happy to see someone tackle, but with life, GS, and another project, there's too much for me to ever do it myself. So if you would like to take up the challenge of writing it yourself, feel free to take the idea and do it yourself. Hell, I might even beta-read it for you.
It starts from Skara's perspective as it follows her developing feelings over Willow while the pair are at Hexside. Over the years, Skara can't help but grow fond of her team captain and friend, eventually realizing she likes Willow a lot more then she should. She refuses to act on her feelings though, both because of her past as a bully and the fact that she's dating Hunter, so Skara mostly just vents to her bestie Viney about it all. After Hexside, Skara becomes a teachers aide and thinks she's fully gotten over her feelings for Willow until Hunter's 21st birthday, where he proposes to her in front of all their family and friends. Willow runs off, panicked, Luz and Amity follow after, and the party attendee's, unsure what to do, try either to help cheer Hunter up, or slip away before things get bad, which is Skara's method. Later, she hears that Willow broke up with Hunter, and a tiny, selfish pang of hope in Skara's chest reminds her that she hasn't given up her feelings for Willow. Even if she wishes she really had.
Later through Willow's perspective, we see how her relationship with Hunter was like. How she always liked him, cared about him, but never felt the same way for him as she did for her. How she always saw Amity and Luz and her dad's and wondered if she would eventually feel as happy with Hunter as they seemed with their partners. And how she never wanted to hurt Hunter, but after he proposed to her, she just didn't know how to react other then to panic. Essentially, she'd always love Hunter, but never felt in love with him, which leads to a lot of her personal conflict in the story. How she never wanted to hurt her friends, but now seems to have created this painful awkwardness in the Hexsquad because she could never be honest with Hunter or herself...
The main focus would be on both girls and their complicated emotions, both regarding their respective situations and, after a while, their feelings for each other. It would also feature a number of subplots, such as Skara being a teachers aid, Boscha and her relationship with Maya, and Hunter's own journey of self discovery after the breakup.
Not all the details are worked out perfectly, but I think there's at least something here, ya know?
Alright, part three of the whole TOH season 3 with more skarlow, what if Skara was more involved in Watching and dreaming?
Hmmm, that’s a tricky one. This worked with Thanks and Future a lot better because they focused more on the Hexsquad, whereas this episode focuses primarily on the Owl trio so there’s a few less things I can do. Still, I’ll try to wrap this trilogy now, since it’s been bothering me I haven’t.
Skara would make an appearance in Luz’s nightmare during Gus’s entertainment bit, reciting a poem or song about how Luz let her friends down, and reinforcing the idea that this is all her fault. She’d also appear with the rest of the group for the ‘Witches Battle,’ before telling Luz ‘You got this girl’ as she’s pulled up out of the dream.
Skara is with the other kids at The Archive House, and while saving the puppets she rescues Willow’s dad, earning a hug that makes Skara blush hard, though she reciprocates.
After the battle, while everyone is being reunited, Skara watches as Willow hugs her dads. She attempts to walk away, but Willow pulls her into another hug, this time along with her dads, causing Skara to start tearing up a little, before bawling at not only having an awesome new girlfriend, but also feeling part of an awesome, caring family.
During the timeskip, Skara is still a teacher (or more likely at this point, teachers assistant) singing to kids. However, Willow drops next to her instead of Hunter. The rest can pretty much go the same, except with Skara instead of Hunter.
This kind of just popped in my head, but skarlow if Skara was also a late bloomer turned great bloomer like Willow?
I actually think there was a time this was what TOH was going for. Like, Skara performs next to no unassisted magic, to my knowledge. The only times we’ve seen her do any magic on screen is the scene with Bo tutoring her, and there’s like 2 instances of her doing it in sorta cannon stuff, once in a promotional piece about the covens where there’s a picture of her using a harp, and once in the FTF end credits. Plus there’s stuff like her punching Steve as opposed to like, casting a spell, or being the alt/strategist for Grudgby instead of playing on the list. I’m probably looking too deeply into things but I can imagine a version of the show where Skara was meant to have little magical power, and Willow learning that and treating her with compassion instead of mockery was what made Skara realize Boscha’s an ass and leave her.
But yeah, I like this idea a lot.
I’d imagine Skara would recognize her lack of magical ability early on in life, probably even around the flashbacks in Understanding, and try to hide that from Boscha. She’d help bully Willow because it let her feel better about her own lack of magic, but she’d also be terrified of being found out as the weak link. When her friends can’t animate a simple doll at Boscha’s Moonlight Conjuring, she’s scared it’s because of her. When Boscha makes her an alt player, Skara believes she’s onto her. Part of the reason Skara sucks up to Boscha and stays her best friend is because she hopes that even if Boscha finds out about her lack of magical ability, at least she might not bully her as she does Willow, right?
But of course Boscha finds out eventually. She learns about Bo’s tutoring, and soon realizes Skara’s been trying to not use magic around her to hide her lack of ability. And Boscha’s angry and disgusted by this. She turns against Skara, turns Cat and Amelia against Skara, calling her a liar and a phony and a half-a-witch. Skara’s devastated, hiding in a closet out of shame, where someone knocks after hearing her crying and-
It’s Willow.
Skara tries to stay silent, but Willow says she knows it’s her, and she just wants to talk. That she heard rumors about Skara being half-a-witch. That she isn’t there to mock her. So Skara let’s her in, opening the door to hear her out. And the two sort of stand there, unsure what to say or do, until Willow says that she’s sorry Skara has to go through this. And Skara snorts, not sure why Willow isn’t rubbing her nose in the fact she spent years making fun of her for the thing she’s going through now. But at least with Willow she got cool Plant powers. Skara doesn’t even have that! And Willow says that she knows what it’s like to be bullied, for people to leave you because they think you’re half-a-witch. Skara just winces, because she was one of the people doing that, and now she’s getting her just desserts.
But Willow tells Skara she’s there for her. She knows how cruel Boscha is. How hurtful she is. So Willow is willing to help Skara through this, if Skara wants it. And after a pause?
Skara tells Willow she’s sorry. Sorry she bullied her. That she encouraged it. Sorry she didn’t push against Boscha for years. Sorry she helped to make Willow feel this way herself, despite no one deserving this. Sorry she doesn’t know what else to do but say, over and over again, that she’s sorry.
And Willow sits there, listening, letting Skara say what she needs to say as tears start to form and Skara begins to just apologize for everything, from things she did to, to things she didn’t do, and all because at the end of the day she wasn’t strong enough. She wasn’t strong enough to stand up to the bullies. She was so weak she became one to survive, and look where it’s gotten her?!?
She’s the real Half-a-Witch.
And Willow sits there, thinks it over, and tells Skara that she doesn’t think of her as Half-a-Witch. She see’s her as a fully capable Witch, deserving of respect as anyone else. And, Willow believes, second chances.
And so Willow helps Skara off the floor, and Skara thanks her by promising to stand up for Willow, her friends, and anyone else Boscha bullies. It doesn’t matter if Boscha is better at magic. It doesn’t matter if Boscha mocks or belittles or threatens her. If Skara has so little power, then the least she can do is use it to help those who need it.
Like how Willow helped her.
And soon, after standing up to Boscha, after becoming Willow’s friend, and after a few way too many attempts at asking Willow out with Luz’s help, Skara began to recognize herself as Half-a-Witch.
If Skarlow were to watch a horror movie who would be the one scared and who’d be the one to comfort the other?
First, quick apology; I’m swamped with asks I want to answer but real life is sadly a thing. Answering skarlow and owl house stuff is a full time job and having to move into a new place is also a full time job so. I’ll be getting back to it hopefully sooner then later, but I’ll try to do a few at a time.
As for the question itself…
Skara is the one who gets scared.
Easiest call of my life.
Sure, in real life Skara will stand up to the Titan itself if she insulted Willow. But no matter how much Skara postures herself as the bravest girl alive, or tells Willow that she’ll hold her during the scary parts, Skara is cowering in Willow’s lap, shivering with her head in her partners chest before the first jump scare. Willow, for her part, is always happy to turn it into an excuse to cuddle with the Bard, paying more attention to her Skary then the movie. Which is actually good, cause Willow also tends to scare easy, just less easy then Skara.
How would willow and skara interact with the collector post series?
A question I honestly never really considered. There’s certainly… a lot to consider here.
Willow would be the more amicable of the two, willing to forgive the Collector as he is, well, a kid. He was a kid with no good guidance either. It isn’t his fault how things went down, how the Isle’s were screwed. Sometimes she’s upset with him, still; how he collected her dad, how he helped lock her and her friends in another realm… but if there’s one thing Willow knows, it’s that plants don’t grow best when having their flaws held against them. They grow best when they can learn from their mistakes. And Willow is happy to help the Collector grow.
Skara is a… bit less eager to forgive. She spent 2 months in hiding at New Hexside in order to survive, every adult she trusted turned into a puppet. He stole two of her old friends for his games. She had to be constantly on her toes to make sure none of the Collector’s Scouts got her, or worse, got into New Hexside. She had to endure Boscha’s command and inaction. And worse, she spent all that time terrified about where Willow was, her Petals, becoming a scout just to search for her. And come to find out she never would have even found her cause he partially forced her into another freaking dimension.
It takes Skara longer then most of the Hexsquad to forgive the Collector, even longer then most of the New Hexside kids. She declines any invitation to meet him, even when he returned after several years to try and make amends with everyone on the Isles. It’s only with Luz’s reassurance that he was safe, that he’d learned from his time away from them, free from Belos, that Skara finally decided to accept a chance to meet him.
When the two did meet for his apology, the Collector was eager, talking about how much her other friends had gushed about her, especially Willow. Skara blushed at that, but spent most of the time trying to be quiet, avoiding speaking as much as possible. The Collector tried to be friendly, mentioning that he heard she was a Bard and saying how cool it could be to jam together, but Skara still didn’t say much, wanting to avoid snapping at him about how he hurt her friends.
After several minutes of him being friendly and Skara just trying to contain herself, though, the Collector stopped. He sighed, and mentioned how he heard from some of the other former Hexside kids about New Hexside. About his drones and how his games scared them. He knew a lot of them never were going to forgive him, and he’d accepted that. If Skara felt she couldn’t forgive him, he’d leave. And Skara honestly was about to say he should, until she remembered something Luz had mentioned, about the Collector being ‘free from Belos.’ And she thinks on it.
How the Collector had spent his life under the thumb of a horrific influence.
How he’d never realized how much his actions hurt people until someone showed him.
How he probably never had a real friend until one of the people he hurt tried to be.
How he would spend the rest of his life making up for, and living with, the terrible mistakes they made in childhood.
It was hard not for Skara to see… something of a connection with this child from beyond the stars.
So instead, she asks him if he’d like to jam out with her. And the Collector eagerly pulls out the kazoo, and Skara summons her harp, and the two have a small duet, before The Collector thanks her and flys off, Skara promising to jam out with him any time.
Skara isn’t entirely sure if she can forgive The Collector for everything. But maybe, she thought, it isn’t about forgiveness. If being a teacher taught her anything, kids don’t need adults to hold their mistakes against them. They need to be allowed to grow, and know they can be better then their worst mistakes. So Skara may not often be the first to throw herself to see the Collector, but she doesn’t say no to a jam session either.
Been in a Mountain Goats mood (the band, not the animal, though both are cool) and I can’t help but imagine a world where Skara and Willow drift apart after graduation, and Skara does karaoke every Friday night in a local bar called The Treasure Shack and always sings “You Were Cool,” dedicating it to “someone more special to me then she’ll ever know,” and she sings it sincerely and honestly because she means every word, and when she sings about how she hopes Willow loves her life now she smiles and when she sings how she hopes “the people who did you wrong have trouble sleeping at night,” she winces because she knows she’s the one having trouble sleeping. And then she bows out and leaves without saying a word.
Until one day Willow comes in for an Apple Blood and sees Skara get on stage, and she stops and listens to her sing, and Willow waits until Skara gets off the stage to tell her how awesome it was and how she’s amazingly talented, and how someone who ‘used to be cool’ wouldn’t mind catching up with Skara over a drink of Apple Blood.
It’s a dumb idea but I kinda just really like it.
Also, listen to the Mountain Goats, they’re based as fuck!
So I know you already technically did something like this but… Willow has a nightmare from when she was the collectors puppet, and she’s not handling it well. Guess whose gonna have to comfort her about it?
If I may, I’d like to use this as a way to showcase how both girls, as adults living together, handle this scenario. Because Skara would have plenty of reason to have nightmares herself.
Skara’s nightmares are sporadic, but they’ll be really bad when they happen. Sometimes it’s her being 15 again, working with Barcus and Matt to find supplies, before getting attacked and collected by drones. Sometimes it’s about ‘Miki,’ and being under Boscha’s thumbs, forced to endure harsh punishments for insubordination. And sometimes it’s about feeling guilty, where she imagines a collected pair of Amelia and Cat blaming her for not being out in the front lines, blaming her for why they spent two months in a horrific internal prison because of a child god. It doesn’t matter that the real Cat and Amelia have assured her none of this is her fault; her brain will think it was anyway and punish her accordingly.
But the worst nightmares are about her as an adult. Where she’s teaching her Baby Class, and in the middle of story time, a Collector drone smashes through the window. Skara tries to stop them, but an EC Scout tackles her to the ground. And all Skara can do is watch in horror as her class is collected, turned into puppets and dragged away to some stupid crown castle and-
Skara wakes up in tears from these nightmares, sometimes sobbing in her sleep and waking her wife Willow, who gently shakes her awake. Skara gets up, but she cant really do anything but continue crying. When this happens, Willow knows exactly what to do: Cuddling her Skary, she summons Clover to bring her the Emergency I-Scream in the freezer. Starberry flavored, Skara’s favorite. When Clover arrives, Skara chuckles and takes a new spoonfuls, calming down, before curling into Willow and addressing her nightmare. Willow simply listens, before taking Skara’s hand, squeezing it, and giving her knuckles a lil’ kiss. She promises Skara that she’s safe, that the Collector’s good now, and wouldn’t hurt her and their friends. She assures her that none of what happened at New Hexside was her fault, that she and the others were scared children, not knowing how to handle the end of the world any other way. Skara lays her head on Willow’s chest, using her wife’s heartbeat to ground her in reality. Willow cuddles her, holding her protectively, arms around her waist as she playfully threatens all the nightmares that may come for her! Skara gets one last smile out of that, before falling into a deep, lovely sleep, complete with a dream about her awesome wife being awesome.
Willow, however, has her own nightmares. Like Skara with Amelia and Cat, Willow imagines her dad, collected, begging to know why she didn’t save him. She imagines herself barely missing the Human World portal, the Collector grabbing her and turning her into a puppet. She imagines the empty void she felt trapped in when the Collector transformed her, and she starts to panic, feeling trapped and too weak to escape.
Worst, she imagines herself seeing Skara, trying to flee a Collector spy, before tripping and being collected. Shes able to stop the drone, but she can’t save her wife. She calls out to help, summons all her magic, but nothing turns her Skary back. Willow just the puppet of the woman she loves in her arms and cries tears of grief, rage, and sorrow.
Skara recognizes these nightmares because they’re the only time she wakes up to her nose being tickled by a vine. When she opens her eyes, she turns to see that a collection of plants from around the house are reaching out for a thrashing, pleasing Willow, muttering about how she can’t do it, she can’t stop this, she can’t save them.
Knowing that her wife is in pain, Skara summons her harp to calm her, to soothe her. She plays lullaby music she’ll play for her Baby Classes nap time, with the occasional flourishes to make the music more Willow’s style. As she plays, the vines retreat, Willow turns and tosses less, and soon enough she opens her eyes, first glowing green, then simply their normal, beautiful emerald color.
She clutches onto Skara, holding onto her whole world. She doesn’t always cry when she does. Sometimes she just needs to be anchored back in reality. But sometimes she needs a good, long cry, and that’s where Skara just holds her sobbing wife, feeling pained and guilty she can’t take this hurt away from her. All she can do is assure her that they’re safe, that Willow is safe, that Skara is safe, that everything is going to be ok.
Eventually Willow is able to calm herself enough that she lets go, pulling away, and thanking Skara for being there for her. Her wife nods, asking if she has any requests for her to play. Willow chooses something silly and simple, like Twinkle Twinkle Wailing Star, which Skara is happy to play for her. Willow falls asleep to Skara’s music. Skara then disappears her harp, before cuddling her wife and gently falling asleep alongside her.
i hc that willow can sing rather well, she probably has a very soft voice. its nothing particularly special but she enjoys singing and she’d have joined the hexside school choir if one of eda’s incidents hadnt resulted in it being disbanded
It’s hearing it for the first time that makes Skara confirm to herself that she loves Willow.
It’s a lovely day in the Human Realm, and when Luz sends them photos of just how clear and big the sky is, Willow and Skara decide to have an impromptu date in the Gravesfield park, where a place they’ve enjoyed together before. They get a few sandwiches for a picnic, find a perfect spot under a large oak, and enjoy themselves, laughing at personal jokes, talking about each others days, and enjoying each others company. An hour or so in, Skara curls up in Willow’s lap, yawning. She earns a smirk from Willow, who takes advantage of the opportunity to stroke Skara’s hair gently. And, of course, sing.
It’s an old Boiling Isle’s lullaby. Nothing incredibly special. And it’s the sort of song that Skara’s heard before, a thousand times, even from her own mom. But even so, when she hears Willow sing it, she stops, looking up at her in absolute awe. She’s never heard her sing before, but it’s just like Willow herself. Soft and gentle, but strong and confident. It’s this combination, these seemingly disparate elements mixing together so seamlessly, that made her voice so perfect.
It was these disparate elements mixing together so seamlessly that made Skara realize she truly loved Willow.
When Willow finishes singing, she see’s Skara staring up at her in awe, and starts getting nervous. She apologizes, talking about how she’s embarrassed at her singing voice, getting flustered and thinking Skara’s going to make fun of her, even if she knows she won’t but-
“I love you.”
It’s not the first time Skara’s thought it, but it’s the first time she’s said it aloud, and the first time she knew it wasn’t just infatuation, but genuine love. Willow wasn’t expecting that reaction, not at all, and she just stares at Skara, staring at her, still in awe of her and her lovely, lovely voice.
Then, Skara blushes beat red as she realizes just what she said, and now it’s her turn to be nervous and flustered as Willow stares. She says she’s sorry for making things awkward, that if she wants to break up and leave her alone forever she totally gets it-
And Willow just laughs and brings Skara to her chest, holding her close and telling her that she loves Skara too, before kissing her, smiling all the while.
Both girls are still blushing, but no longer in embarrassment. They’re both just happy to be loved. So Skara kisses Willow again and curls into her, asking for another song, which Willow proudly delivers, and which Skara mindlessly drifts off to, softly whispering ‘I love you’ every so often just to let Willow know she does.
And Willow, kissing Skara’s forehead as she drifts off to sleep, says “I love you too, Skary.”
So a couple days ago I wrote this post about Skarlow at the University of Wild Magic and one of the things I talked about was Skara helping Willow during a rough patch by bringing her into class as a special guest and I can’t stop imagining just how cute that would actually be.
Skara introducing her to the whole class as ‘The most #1 Flyer Derby Captain this side of the Titan, the Strongest Plant Witch alive, AND the single cutest girlfriend EVER! Also helped save the Isles or something, I can’t keep track of all her amazing accomplishments!’
The kids raising their hands and asking stuff like ‘Is it true you single handedly destroyed Belos?’ And ‘Are you really strong enough to arm wrestle The Collector?” And Skara has to admit she may have added a bit of Willow-centric flair to a couple stories.
Willow introducing the kids to Clover, and them all thinking they’re the cutest Palisman ever, making Daisy jealous and earning a laugh from Skara as she has to reassure her own Palisman that she’s really cool too.
Willow teaching the kids how to play Flyer Derby, and explaining some of her favorite moments playing it in Hexside, occasionally veering off into just talking about how cute Skara was in her uniform or how smart her strategies were, making Skara blush.
The two college kids setting up a friendly match with half the class each, playfully trash talking/flirting with each other while coaching their kids through the game in the most encouraging, down to earth way possible. Skara’s team winning, and Willow exclaiming that now she has to kiss the winner, and the kids getting grossed out as Willow pulls Skara’s face in for a surprised, but very welcomed smooch.
Willow being given a ‘Thank You for Saving The Isle’s’ card by one of the kids, signed by the whole class, and her opening it with a tear in her eye as she makes out words in the scribbles, like ‘HERO’ and ‘AWESOME’ and ‘GREAT,’ including the message from Skara in the original post.
Willow flying off after an hour or so, waving goodbye as she and Clover leave. Skara waving back until a student tugs on her pants to ask if Willow’s gonna be coming back, cause they all like her and her Palisman, and Skara making a mental note to ask Willow if she wants to come again.
Willow arriving to Skara and Luz’s dorm after Skara gets back to kiss her awesome girlfriend and thank her for the huge pick me up. The two cuddling up on the couch, Willow teasing Skara by saying that she’s jealous Skara gets to hang out with so many awesome kids, and now Willow wants a kid herself, which makes Skara sputter like an idiot, just as Luz walks in, and turns right back around to tell Amity that it’s possible that that they’re gonna be aunts soon!
Titan if that’s not the fluffiest post cannon piece you could make idk what is!
