As the premier Skarlow shipper, I would like to make it clear we do not claim Lily Orchard.

Avatar

Good. No one should claim Lily at all.

I know I never actually use this account at all these days but just in case anyone ever wanted to know my thoughts on the woman who gives Skarlow a bad name.

Avatar

I honestly wish Skarlow could have been a bigger ship because honestly, not only is it one of the cutest ships ever conceived of, even with Skara’s lack of deserved development and on screen interactions with Willow, but it’s also one of the most versatile.

Give me Skarlow fluff. Give me stories of Skara and Willow dates, where they go to Flyer Derby games and Skara hyperfixates on the different strategies and Willow listens because she loves hearing Skara happy. Give me stories of Skara serenading Willow throughout their relationship, from their first date to Skara’s proposal to when they’re old and grey, always bringing a smile to Willow’s face. Give me Willow showing Skara how to garden, causing Skara much pain due to BI plants, but still pushing through in wackier ways to do something with Willow she enjoys.

Give me Skarlow angst. Give me stories of Skara developing a crush on Willow only to remember how she bullied her, and Skara trying to push those feelings down because she doesn’t think Willow could ever feel the same about her. Give me stories of Willow throwing herself into danger constantly for Skara, protecting her from literally everything because she’s so scared of losing her again after The Day of Unity. Give me stories of Skara saying an offhand comment that accidentally reminds Willow of their past, and having the two girls need to talk about their feelings on the matter openly and honestly for their relationship to work.

Give me Skarlow anything. There’s so many different ways I feel you can handle Skarlow, for sweet or bitter reasons, and it’s a shame there’s no real stories out there about them that isn’t done by me or Q, or isn’t really short…

Hello! I noticed that you're a skarlow fan, too, and I just wanted to ask how you'd feel about sharing ideas on how Skara would act as a stepmother to Willow's kid!

I have a fanfic involving Boscha and Willow being divorced and having a kid with Will dating Skara and Boscha dating Bria

Avatar

I've seen your work around the Skarlow tag a time or two. It's cute stuff. I admit I haven't read the fic, but I might if I get the time and know what it's called.

I'd be happy to give a few potential headcannons for Skara being a stepmom. Even after all this time I haven't actually explored that possibility. I always like to have Skara and Willow date from Hexside onward and get married sometime shortly after University. But it would be interesting to explore them not only dating when they're older, but also after Willow already had a divorce. With a kid, no less. Plus, divorced Boscha trying to be a cool mom is too funny a concept not to think about.

Also, I'll use the name and what I know of your fankid, Sage, but I admit I'm not sure about all the lore for them, so if I get something completely wrong, just ignore it, or consider it an AU or completely unrelated universe.

  • Before Boscha and Willow's divorce, Sage considered everyone of her parents friends her aunt or uncle of some kind. Amity the 'Nice Aunt,' Luz the 'Funny Aunt,' Gus the 'Smart Uncle,' ect. Skara, though, was her 'Cool Aunt.' She was the one of Sage's favorite adults because she always had a fun new song she wrote just for her, or a new story about her days in Flyer Derby with her mom, or even her time during New Hexside, beating up Emperor Coven guards or defending the school from the Collector. When she was young, she was excited to be a student at Hexside just so she could take classes taught by her cool aunt.
  • When Willow and Boscha separated, it was Skara Sage would go to the most to talk about her frustrations, whether it be feeling neglected by Boscha, or worrying about Willow, or feeling like all this was her fault. Skara would always make time to listen, whether she was in the middle of grading papers or if it was the middle of the night. It was always important to her that Sage felt cared about during this rough, formative period of her life, that she knew she could trust people like Skara to always be there for her.
  • Skara and Willow started dating a year after Willow and Boscha separated. Skara had always liked Willow, always wanted to ask her out, but never felt like it was the right time to confess her feelings, especially given her and Boscha. But finally, she confessed her feelings in song to Willow when she'd come over to Skara's for a friendly dinner one evening while Luz and Amity looked after Sage. Skara knew that Willow would almost certainly say no, that she didn't feel the same way as her or that she didn't think Sage would approve. But to her surprise, Willow eagerly reciprocated, kissing her with delight as she hugged the Bard close. When Skara asked about Sage, Willow believed Sage would be ok with it easily. She already liked Skara a lot, why wouldn't she approve?
  • The truth was, Sage didn't really know how to feel when she heard the news. She was just getting used to Boscha being gone, but now her other mom was dating someone else? Someone Sage had always seen in a completely different light then as a mom? It made her feel... weird. She reacted nice enough to the news when she first heard it, but over time it became clear to Skara that Sage wasn't entirely happy about this. When she admitted her worries to Willow, they sat Sage down and explain her real feelings. She admitted she didn't want so much to change, that she wanted Skara to remain her 'Cool Aunt,' and that she was tired of feeling like things were happening that she had no say or control over. Willow wasn't sure what to say, but Skara, having worked with kids at Hexside, got on Sage's level and agreed that it wasn't fair to her that so much change was happening without her having any say. So she promised Sage that she would stop dating Willow if it would make Sage happy, because she knew that if Sage wouldn't be happy with her now, things getting more serious with Willow would only exacerbate the problem. Sage didn't know what to say, so she just asked if Skara did love her mom, which she said yes to. Then, she asked if she could at least consider Skara as her 'Cool Mom,' which got a laugh and a 'yes' out of Skara. Sage admitted she was still a bit uneasy, but was grateful Skara listened to her and still cared what she felt like, so she was happy with them dating, as long as Skara was still cool and nice and treated her mom right.
  • Two years later, Skara and Willow got married, with Sage as the flower girl.
  • Skara would often cook for the family, and she always attempted to keep Sage's personal feelings in mind when making her food, while also using her culinary skills to make things she didn't like appetizing.
  • Skara would still sing for Sage, even if sometimes she didn't have the time to make a completely new song and just remixed an old hit. Sage still loved the songs a lot, and always found herself humming them later.
  • At Hexside, Skara loves to remind Sage she loves her, especially if Sage walks by her classes: waving to her, cheering her on when she knows she has a test in her next class, all that jazz. In truth, Sage appreciates the attention, and is grateful to Skara for caring about her at school and not pretending to be professional.

Something that I feel like is severely underused is Hunter/Willow/Skara. Like, Willow has two hands! That is enough hands for her completely smitten boyfriend and her completely smitten girlfriend! Both where Hunter and Skara are platonic, and where they are romantic. Just the idea of, like, Hunter and Skara writing Ruler's Reach fanfics and ranting about how amazing Willow is and bonding over being under the control of someone in power and authority - it's a very promising dynamic that goes ignored by the fandom.

Avatar

To be honest I personally just like straight skarlow.

Well, not ‘straight’ skarlow… more like… just skarlow… you know what I mean.

Basically I prefer skarlow to be its own thing, without Hunter’s involvement at all. Having said that, this isn’t a bad idea honestly. Especially if it involves platonic Skara and Hunter. As someone who grew up surrounded by monogamous relationships, the concept of polyamory, much less polyamory with platonic relationships involved, is fascinating to me.

I remember that this used to be something people would tease about before Huntlow became a big thing, but it’s kinda died out since. Still, while I don’t think I’d do it, it be neat to read someone write that sort of dynamic between the three, especially with a skarlow focus.

Also, if you’re interested in the idea and somehow never read it, here’s an AO3 fic on the subject I read a long while back!

Any new random skarlow headcanons? It has been a while hasn’t it…?

It has been, yeah. I’ve actually been thinking about writing up something about it soon, just maybe a bit on why it’s been so long. But I suppose I can give out a few fun headcannons beforehand.

  • When Skara told Willow she wanted to be a teacher, Willow was so proud of her she learned to make a one of a kind coffee mug just for her, made from spare palistrom in Dell’s workshop, with the words ‘WORLD’S #1 TEACHER’ on it. In reality it’s a terrible mug but Skara loves it to tears and keeps it holding all her pencils for the entirety of her career.
  • Skara composed an anthem for the Emerald Entrails to be played whenever they enter a Flyer Derby field. Skara got the songs sound down first try, but it took several attempts for her to not write a version with lyrics that weren’t entirely about how awesome and cute a captain Willow is.
  • When the two move in together, Skara deliberately buys items too busy for her to carry to watch Willow carry them effortlessly. She may or may not think watching Willow being strong is the hottest thing on the Boiling Isles.
  • THESE FINAL PONTS INVOLVE SEXUAL THEMES FOR SKARLIW POST-TIME SKIP BUT NO ACTUAL SEX!

Skara see’s Viney as a big sister, and during New Hexside Skara would vent to Viney about her frustrations with Boscha, missing her parents, and her worries about where the other Entrails are (especially Willow because Skara is a simp).

I love how your New Hexside headcanons mostly end with "Skara thinking about Willow. And the others. Obviously." Also, now I really wanna write Skara and Willow's reunion after WaD

1. Thank you kindly. I mean, she does care about the others. Obviously.

There’s just one she uh… may care a little more about.

2. Please write it. And please send it to me. Nothing would make me happier then knowing I inspired more skarlow content.

A Couple New Hexside Angsty Skarlow Headcannons cause It’s That Kinda Night.

  • Skara only became a Scout to find Willow. And the other Entrails, of course. To that end, she would often sneak away from the others to try and check locations she thinks Willow could be hiding out in, even going to The Owl House at one point, but leaving when all she found were rats and graffiti.
  • Skara kept a diary of the events of New Hexside, documenting all sorts of adventures, like fighting a crazed group of Emperors Coven loyalists, or finding a weird bug in her rations once. But she tends to get sidetracked on the less eventful days, rambling on about how much she misses Willow. And the others, too.
  • One day, Boscha tried to ‘make amends’ with Skara, summoning her to her ‘private quarters’ (I.e. the Principals Office) for a ‘feast’ (a bunch of sweets she confiscated, many of which were Skara’s favorites). She sweet talked Skara, promised to get Miki under control, even (reluctantly) apologized for some of the more… extreme behavior that ended up ruining their friendship. And Skara’s all happy to join Boscha and be her new right hand. Until Boscha mentions ‘Half-a-Witch.’ And Skara immediately bristles at that. She grabs a handful of sweets to shove in her pockets and leaves without saying another word, pissing off Boscha something fierce.
  • Viney and Skara play makeshift games of Flyer Derby in the New Hexside halls when the others are asleep. And afterwords they reminisce about ‘the good ol’ days,’ before The Day of Unity. Skara in particular loves talking about how cool it was seeing Willow in action, how good of a leader she is, and how much she misses her.
  • Viney knows about Skara’s feelings before even she does. Skara mistakes/lies to herself about them being standard friendly feelings, but Viney can tell how much Skara feels for Willow. How desperate she is to find her again. How much it hurts her each day Skara doesn’t find her. Viney knows Skara likes Willow, and she wishes it didn’t have to be this way…
  • Later, Boscha spots Skara and gets angry at her. She mocks her for leaving the meeting, yells at her for abandoning her like Amity did, and Skara just keeps walking, trying to get as far away from this as possible. But when Boscha mentions ‘Half-a-Witch,’ Skara snaps, hurling her former best friend back with a massive wind spell. When Boscha stands up, Skara casts a Bard spell to silence her, telling the triclops to never say those words again. But when Boscha recovers, she croaks out an angry ‘She’s probably dead.’ And Skara just stops, stands there a moment… and runs away.
  • Skara ends up in the Secret Room of Shortcuts, where Viney is hanging out with Puddles, while she begins to have a panic attack. She rants about Boscha, yells about how unfair the apocalypse has been, but mostly she just cries, and cries, and cries, about Willow. She misses her team captain, misses her smile, her determination, her confidence. Willow would have beaten The Collector and ended this by now, she knows it. If anyone could save the Isles it would be her. And she just grabs Viney’s shirt and begs her to tell her Willow’s out there, pleads with her to say that Willow’s ok and safe. And Viney just hugs her friend and strokes her hair and tells her it’s going to be ok as Skara continues to sob. And it’s that night, after her panic attack, after Viney helped her get some sleep curled up with Puddles, that Skara finally accepts that she doesn’t just miss Willow. She loves her.
  • The next days diary page is mostly a rambling mess, both in terms of its writing and in terms of it being covered in tears. But a few words stand out. ‘Sorry’ is used often, along with ‘Love’ and ‘Deserve Better.’

Is it sad to feel a bit frustrated with the fact that pre-ASIAS, MoringMark hinted heavily at being a Skarlow shipper, especially with the HootTube comic ending with Skara reacting dreamily to Willow’s workout, which made me hope we’d eventually get him to make the ship something the fandom would support, and then now he’s writing a Skarney comic long form fic?

Like I know he doesn’t owe anything and if he likes Skarney and Huntlow he’s got his rights but I miss the days when I thought Skarlow had a chance at being as big as Boschalow and being a beloved fandom ship.

So what would it be like if Willow or Skara found the human counterparts of their partners?

Avatar

There's certainly a fun idea here. I actually toyed with it a touch back in a far earlier post, this one right here. But there's a bit of a problem here, sadly, in that we don't really know much about the counterparts, or even if that's what they are. We know theymay have one, but we don't know anything about this counterpart as a person. That, and we don't even know if the Boiling Isles and human world even work like a parallel universe or if Luz's school just has weirdly similar students. A rational man would probably just shrug the question off, move on, and ignore it with all that going against it. I mean, I'd have to basically create two OC parralel universe versions of prexisting characters, so may as well throw in the

Skarlow’s experience at a pride parade?

Avatar

•Since the Isles doesn’t have a concept of sexuality, Luz introduces the Hexsquad to the idea during their time in the Human Realm. After Luz’s descriptions and several hours long presentation on all things LGBTQ+, it’s here that Willow recognizes that she’s what humans call ‘Pan’. Later, while the two are on a date in the Human Realm and pass a Gay Pride flag, Willow explains the idea of sexuality to Skara. Upon thinking it over, Skara recognizes that she’s bi, leaning towards girls.

•When next June rolls around, Luz is thrilled to invite… pretty much everyone she knows on the BI to the Gravesfield Pride Parade. Most everyone agrees to go, including the whole Hexsquad, Raine, Eda, and all the Blight’s (except Odalia who wasn’t invited).

•When Skara see’s video footage of pride parade along with Willow, she’s instantly excited. The energy, the cute clothes, the love on full display throughout the parade. It was enough to make her squeal with delight at the idea of attending one. Willow was just as giddy, eager to have a chance to show off her wonderful girlfriend to the world.

•For their attire, Skara threw on a pair of overalls, a gift from Luz, while Willow wore a tank top with a colorful frying pan on it (also a gift from Luz, though Willow didn't get understand it). Both girls couldn't understand how they found themselves a partner that was so cute.

•Once Luz and all the Witches got to the Parade, Skara’s first order of business was to grab herself a bi flag . She made a beeline to the nearest stand for it, too, dragging Willow along. She was so excited to wear the flag like a cape, thinking it was the cutest idea she’d ever seen, spinning around as soon as she got it. Willow grabbed herself a pan flag, but kept it in Luz’s bag, intending to wait to put it up in her room.

•Willow spends a lot of the day taking photos of the event; Luz and Amity kissing while wrapped in their own flags, Raine playing the most hardcore music of the night atop a float, Eda scaring away some loser protestors. But the ones she took the most of were Skara being Skara. Hanging around the stands with a smile, gleefully getting her face painted, meeting Vee’s partner and their friends. Her favorite photo was one taken by Skara herself though, as she pulled Willow in for a one-armed hug, took Willow’s camera, and got a shot of the two together, Skara giddy at the camera while Willow stared at her with a smile. It’s a photo that Willow would later put alongside their family pictures when the two were married.

Anonymous asked:

What would a skarlow-lumity double date be like?

I've answered this before a looooooooong time ago, here with double date headcannons for some other ships. The basic idea was that they'd go on chaotic dates, mostly thanks to Luz and Skara's chaotic bisexual energy. But I think I can do a bit better now, and write something a little more detailed.

So, what would an official Skarlow-Lumity Double Date look like?

  • Since the four are such awesome friends already, they often hang out together a lot without ever calling them double dates. Hanging out at lunch, sleepovers, their own group chat. So a lot of their double dates aren’t even necessarily official. However, they still do officially make double dates on occasion, usually whenever big events are happening, like a fair or a Grudgby game. Skara’s usually the one who suggests a place to go, since she spends a lot of time scrolling through Penstagram ads already to find the stuff like new outfits to woo Willow with. Once she finds something, she sends it to the others, who, schedules permitting, agree to go, with Amity and Skara usually buying the tickets.
  • A popular trope for the four is games of Grudgby or Flyer Derby. Given that all of them love sports to one capacity or another, they’re always happy to attend the BoneYard, Bonesburough’s local stadium, to watch whichever game is going down. Amity and Luz are particularly fond of the Grudgby matches, since Amity likes to regale Luz with stories of how she totally owned all her opponents back when she played in the Banshees. Willow and Skara, meanwhile, adore the Flyer Derby games, though Skara often spends most of the matches either jotting down notes for strategies she gets inspired to make or yelling about clearly bad strategies the teams try to pull off. On more then one occasion, Skara’s had to get gently reminded by Willow to stop rambling angrily about one bad play or another. The four usually end up having an awesome time together though, especially since the BoneYard sells decent (or in Luz’s case, edible) concessions.
  • Another popular date night for the four is fairs and carnivals. These often get Luz and Skara excited the most because they love the rides and games, while Willow and Amity enjoy the atmosphere and seeing their partners giddy. Whenever they go to one, Skara will no doubt spend a decent chunk of her Snails trying to win a top-shelf prize for Willow, though she’ll often end up with a slew of lower shelf prizes Willow is no less grateful for. Willow just plays a round or two of games of strengths, which tends to mean Skara gets teddy bears the size of herself. Amity often complains the games are rigged, but she still try’s to win something big for Luz anyway, which Luz appreciates and often reciprocates. And after the games and some Rotten Candy, the four love to go on rides together, whether they be romantic boat rides with their partner through the Tunnel of Love, or wild, mad roller coasters that are probably more dangerous then anything in the human world.
  • Occasionally, the four set up impromptu sleepovers at the Owl House together, which aren’t really called double dates but have the same vibes. They’re usually a lot more chill then their other options, with the girls doing anything from watching movies to truth or dare to spooky ghost stories. These tend to be the dates the four most intermingle in, often even with pillow fight with Luz and Skara on one side and Willow and Amity on the other (Willow usually wins, of coursec, but they still all enjoy them). Still, both couples like to snuggle up after it’s all over and fall asleep. Luz, rubbing her chin against Amity’s shoulder as they gently fall asleep. Skara, holding onto Willow in a foolish attempt to stop her from flailing about the entire night and throwing her out of their sleeping bag.
