These are specific to the love it takes, but could be canon if you squint.

Dean: is a never-nude. Hates being naked. Even showers are on thin ice for him. The more layers he can be wearing, the better. Feels more comfortable in the bedroom if he at least gets to keep his socks on. Is thankful that Cas doesn't know/doesn't care enough to ask about it.

Sam: does NOT wear sandals, because then you can tell how short his jeans actually are. Dean calls him a fussy shopper because Sam can and will spend his free time checking up on the nearby thrift stores to see if there are any jeans his actual length and he will mend and sew the pairs he has until they are falling apart. Neither of the boys have ever actually bought an item of clothing new off the rack.

Cas: doesn't like listening to music (it's Just Noise to him) but he DOES love hearing people singing together. These are very different things in his mind. It grosses him out a little bit that Dean is eukaryotic based but he isn't going to let an unsavory little habit like glycolosis get in the way of true love.

Fjord has had a thing for older men ever since Vandran took him under his wing many, many, many years ago. That crush has long since changed into something a little more familial (Fjord will deny ever having one at all) but you could draw a through line from Vandran to all the (older) men that Fjord has been attracted to and find more similarities than differences. Sugar dragon included.

Around these parts we're a firm believer in the power of a triangle. All sides are equal, if ya catch my drift.

At first Marion is the one who hunts Vandran down solo because he's skittish since his last girlfriend tried to kill him (several times). And because, while Vandran and Babenon aren't outright hostile, they do remember each other from their Revelry days and they also remember how much trouble they caused each other.

This is incredibly loosely based on the Spn lore that Spn-God first created the leviathans, and then regretted it cause “they ate everything” so he sealed them up in Purgatory so that life on earth could evolve. 

This is also super unbeta’d, mostly because I’m over 2k into it and I guess it might be turning into A Thing.

Loose spoilers for The Love It Takes verse, but the entire verse is just a re-interpretation of Spn canon so it’s not spoiler-spoilers. Just some general Cas lore!

Sam would not be instagramable tho he would absolutely look/live by what’s easy rather than aesthetics. Dean would make fun of him for it but then get upset that Sam doesn’t ask for his help in reno-ing it. 

Then again trying to picture behemoth of a man Sam Winchester trying to fit into those tiny RV beds... sfafjadklfjsdklj the poor man is gonna need so much work on his back

LMAO honestly... Benny is so true. He’s absolutely Dean’s first choice and maybe he only one they can agree on. Cas may consider Meg, but Dean would shoot that down. 

Balthazar would absolutely be dtf and a lot of fun, but Dean would get worried that Cas would like him more than Dean so sldkjslkjf maybe not. 

Pre-mind wipe Lisa would have been a GREAT choice tbh. 

Crowley would absolutely be down, and is sad that neither of them ask him. (I also think it would be an absolute shitshow, which could be funny!!) 

10. What two songs, two books and two luxury items do they take to a desert island?

I’m assuming it’s 2 collectively, so they get 1 each.

Dean: Ramble On by Led Z. Book: The 50 Shades trilogy. He wants to see what the fuss is about and accidentally gets emotionally invested. Luxury item: COFFEE. 

Cas: Mama Mia by Abba. He grabbed the first book he saw and has no idea of the contents. Luxury item: slippers. He likes the texture!!

27. Why do their friends get annoyed with them?

OVER A DECADE OF PINING!!!! AND DENIAL!!!! 

And Sam is still mad that they had sex when they thought Sam was asleep that one time. He wasn’t asleep. If they wanted the privacy they could have booked a second room!!

Oh my GOD the David arc. Okay lemme see if I can get some coherent thought in this thing.

David was extremely interesting to me as a character, because he's kind of a combination of all four of the animorphs themselves. As a person? I hated his guts very much. I was cheering Rachel on when she stuck a fork in his ear.

Of course, the arc was also incredible in realizing how far the group has gotten from the first book, especially Jake and Rachel. (These two are honestly my favorites.)

Jake has fallen into the role of leader and makes life-or-death decisions for his team, and he's used to that. In this arc, he realizes that he has the power to make life or death decisions for other people. Poor dude, but he knows what has to be done. The solution they found for David showed that they were willing to make hard decisions as a team, and I'm a bit worried to see what that means for the future.

And Rachel, oh my gosh, she is amazing as a protagonist, especially as a female protagonist from the 90s. K.A. Applegate had the chance to make her one dimensional, to be okay with doing what needs to be done, but she took a step back and emphasized that Rachel is just as human (for lack of a better word) as the other animorphs. Rachel and Jake are similar this way, because for them, the ends usually justify the means. They'll feel bad about it later, but they won't risk second guessing themselves in the heat of the moment. (I also love their cousin/sibling relationship so much, if there are any books in the series/fanfic centric on that, lmk 👀)

Also, I don't know if I just read too fast, but was it ever addressed how Jake and Rachel's family dealt with the whole 'my cousin/son was dead, then came back to life, the disappeared'? Cause honestly, oof.

Sorry for the load of rambling! I thought I would end up disliking the David arc when I first started them because I didn't like David all that much and now it's probably my favorite set.

I don’t think there was ever a “this is how we explained everything away” which is... tbh... almost worse. Your child is in a life-threatening car accident, miraculously heals!! and then... vanishes. Traumatic!!! 

I LOVE THE DAVID ARC!!! It’s one of the best in the series, esp as a turning point for the characters. From this point on I always felt like a line had been crossed, and the knowledge was there that our heroes could and would do awful things to win the war, including to other humans who had previously been totally off-limits. 

I’m too far out from reading Anific to remember any good ones specifically, but gl looking them up!

As an older reader I now come out of the David arc with a LOT of sympathy for David. He’s a 13/14yo child in a very sad scenario and it’s unfortunate that he just doesn’t grasp what’s going on, and then takes things to the Wrong Conclusion that ultimately leads to him thinking he has to kill everyone to prove his strength. And I’m just like ‘oh baby boy... if only someone had given u warm soup and a blanket and told u everything would be ok...’ while at the same time going ‘you little shit!!!!’

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

I am assuming this is mb anon who is reading the series so I’m not gonna share my after-the-end-of-the-series thoughts cause I wanna give you time to finish it! But!! that being said? 

A heartbreaking Jake hc: 

It’s less hc and more fact, but defs quite subtle in the series, but Jake is/was the first to recognize the necessity for him needing to be 2-faced to everyone! He had to play Friend, to keep the group together, but he also had to be The Leader to make the call to use his friends as weapons/blunt instruments where need be!

 The others are slower on the uptake, in recognizing this change in Jake, but he honed it to a fine edge with all the practice he got in faking being an annoying little brother while his brother, enslaved and the enemy and would infest them all if Jake slips up once, lives in the same house as him.

Alternatively, Tom was supposed to practice basketball with Jake to help him prep for trying out on the basketball team, but Tom was too busy with the Sharing and so Jake never practiced and ultimately didn’t make the team (as seen n the first book)

(Note: the spn fic is divided between not one, not two but THREE documents that are collectively shy of.... oh god... 70k. Sam’s section is the most complete, hence why most of these are Sam’s pov)

Ask

“Sam, is there-- are you on demon blood?” Dean asks quietly. 

“No,” Sam says immediately, and he hates that Dean has to ask this of him, that that is going to haunt him forever, “no, I’m not. I’m clean.”

Knife

“Dean,” Bobby says, and he takes a deep breath and Dean prepares himself for a sappy speech, “I wanna make this clear, so we don’t have to do this again: I’ve known you since you were nine. Half the shit you think you learned from your Dad, you learned here from me. Hell, I took a knife for you, rather than hurt you, remember? You and Sam? You’re my boys, and you’re not getting rid of me until I’ve gone to dust, okay?” 

Blade

Castiel’s vessel moves after his true self has, like the body is the ripple, the afterthought, of his true motions, and he parries and swipes with his angel blade, making cuts into the other vessel but nothing to kill.

Narrow

Cas narrows his eyes at Sam, and Sam recalls threatening to find a way to kill Cas, and Cas rising to that threat like Sam was an ant to be crushed under his heel. Sam’s maybe a little out of line, but he’s still riding high on his insane spellwork and how he just saved the day.

Blue

“They’re coming back with reinforcements-- I’ll take care of it,” [Cas] says, and gives them a lop-sided grin, with enough teeth to it that it’s more like a snarl. There’s red blood in his mouth, but his eyes are fantastically blue with grace. All at once Sam understands why Castiel would have been the angel chosen to lay siege to Hell to save his brother's soul.

Wow what a big question! And thank you, I’m absolutely flattered!

This is a two-parter, so i’ll be as brief as I can:

1) What is my writing process?

Short Answer: A nightmare

Longer Answer: 

I often think about my writing more than I actually spend writing, as I normally only get an hour to write if I’m lucky. Usually I’m struck by a concept or a scene that I’d like to write, and I have to figure out how to get there (Little Monster). Or the opposite, I get an idea of a concept and then have to figure out where the heck we go from here (Sunset in Reverse, From Eden, Royally Screwed)

2) How do I add “voice” to characters?

There’s a lot of nuance and tips I can share, but the basic advice I can give is: it’s all practice. I’ve been seriously writing for over 10 years now, and so I’ve developed and honed my skills to be where I’m at. Character voices/ensemble adventures were my passion projects, and so I spent a lot of hours learning that. This also means I’ve written a lot, and I mean a lot of bad stories. (Many of which are still out there on the internet!)

But tips! I can always offer those:

To go to the basic elements of drafting a character voice, imagine you have the something like the power rangers. These characters have specific color themes, and these colors represent personality traits. Red = angry, reckless and aggressive. Blue = level-headed, rational, perhaps they’re The Smart Person. Yellow = cheerful, optimistic, naive. You get the idea. (You’re probably thinking of some characters who fit these descriptions)

We’re gonna call these the Primary Character Colors.
