Two things I keep thinking about,

1.

When he's holding the drawings, the heart that Buck drew, not the actual heart that Christopher drew, is the one that Eddie holds with his left hand.

On his left side, like the heart's actual anatomical space.

2.

In 5x15, there was the case with the guy with his heart on the right side.

This is a medic's job, but we see Buck helping Hen.

And he looks traumatized and worried, this shouldn't touch him, he should even find it fascinating, standing back with L and Bobby, but that's not what happened.

"His heart is on the wrong side."

This felt so connected to the buddie scene in 5x14, imo Buck didn't misunderstand the assignment, he's one of the smartest ppl in the 118, but I think he tried to get a smile out of Christopher and left it on the table, hoping it would have the same effect on Eddie.

And maybe say something heartfelt without actually saying it. 😉

And maybe Eddie heard it...?

"Don't drag him down with you, Eddie" is what Eddie’s parents told him before he left for LA.

And indeed this entire time, since Eddie got to LA and joined the 118, he has been trying his damnedest not to 'drag' Christopher down.

But we never noticed that over the course of time he's been trying his damnedest with Buck too.

After that rescue, I bet Eddie wanted nothing more than to see Buck, make sure he’s ok, hear the parts he wasn't privy to.

He looks so happy to see Buck, his whole demeanor warmed over, those hearteyes, the fondness, you can see that he wants to go over there.

But then something happens, Buck full out laughs, he looks so happy, and Eddie who's been feeling like shit for a while now, and was slowly spiraling, didn't want to 'drag Buck down with him'.

He wants his best friend, his co-parent, his Buck to be happy. That's love and heartbreak all in one moment. 🥺❤😭❤

In connection to this spec post I made today.

Avatar

I know, "Recovery", will be at the Diaz household. How?

Well for one, Buck does not yet have a couch.

Two, I doubt either Eddie or Christopher will want to let Buck out of their sights after everything.

Also, the Madney household is not done, plus there's a sweet but restless toddler running around the house. 😍

And since this storyline is awfully familiar to me (station 19 - Vic, anyone? 👀) Buck is going to be wearing a monitor watch to make sure his heart is not in distress, which also will have to include a lot of rest and require to have someone to watch out over him. (In Station 19, they were Vic's boyfriend and her best friend. - Eddie and Christopher for Buck? 👀😉)

Also, because there is a very big foreshadowing that has announced exactly that earlier in the season.

I am talking about 6x07 "Cursed."

The undefined relationship between Felisa and Alexis (aside from the money thing, obviously) felt very familiar.

Felisa stresses outside the crystal shop (where both she and Alexis are knocked out, btw) that Alexis is all she has.

Eddie's face says it all. He has one of those, and indeed, in the next frame, we see Buck loading Alexis to the second ambulance.

She sits with her in the hospital after she's released and talks to her, suggesting a girls' trip once she's better. - Eddie is a spectator through all of this. And he gets this amazingly tender look on his face when he listens to Felisa as she talks to unconscious Alexis.

Fast forward to the end of the episode, Felisa tells Eddie that Alexis is going to stay with her when she gets out of the hospital.

and eventually tells him that she's going to have the house blessed just in case, before Alexis comes to stay with her.

Another thing she says is that it's easier to believe you're cursed than wrong, and post-therapy Diaz is amused by it.

And yet he still calls his Abuela after Felisa leaves and asks her about his future anyway.

Here, in this frame, everyone thought, at the time, that the focus on Christopher a frame later is because he will be in danger, but the truth is, that the whole of S6a even stretching back to S5b, is about Buck's connection to the Diaz boys.

And as most of you saw the promo pic of 6x11, it also confirms that the Diazes are going to pull Buck even closer to them once he's awake and out of the hospital.

For all his bluster and disbelief of curses in general, when Buck asks Eddie outside the crystal shop if he still thinks Felisa isn't cursed, he answers, "No, but I think I am."

Now, why would he say that? Because Eddie lost his wife, lost his army buddies, nearly lost his son and best friend, and nearly lost himself somewhere along the way.

He also keeps encountering couples in the making that will eventually end up together, there were the ladies from the driver's test in S5, there were Josh and Carson, now Felisa and Alexis, everyone eventually pretty much get over the first encounter and move forward together. - But not Eddie, not with Buck, not yet.

If there was ever a catalyst to get these two to, at least, talk about their shared trauma and living together in the same house, this is it.

Thing about glass,

Is that it shatters, and it leaves deep wounds,

The lightning hurt Buck, stopped his heart cold, but it shattered everyone else.

Eddie is holding the biggest piece because I think he would be the most affected by this, Buck is his rock, anchor, a compass. He keeps him tethered.

For that to be taken away, in one moment, you can see the devastation on Eddie’s face in that moment of realization.

Shattered, unmoored, broken - like glass. 💔🥺

Something I keep noticing, when Buck talks about former dates he had, he rarely specify the gender.

We can see it in several places over the years, but the one most noticeable is here,

Eddie is trying to get a hold of Felisa Valdez to give her her bracelet back, but keeps hitting a wall.

Bobby asks him if he didn't say he'd call her agent, and Eddie replied:

Then Buck goes:

He doesn't specify the gender of the agent or says anything that hints on a personal note, not she, or he, not she/he told me.

They - as in there is something I am not willing to talk about.

They never call back - called me back, told me they don't call back, I observed that this is their pattern of behavior.

It's not specified. It's not personal. It was lightly teasing and a way to make Eddie feel comforted in this frustrating situation.

It's also careful, because as past experience shows, Eddie is never thrilled talking about Buck's love life that doesn't involve him.

They rarely talked about Abby, the never talked about Ali, Eddie hated Taylor at first sight, and he was barely attentive when Buck complained about Veronica for the 0.2 seconds they were seeing each other.

Consciously or unconsciously, Buck is aware of it and keeps it light and helpful and I love him for it.

Eddie's response to Buck’s retort is interesting, too.

There's a dissatisfied nod, whether it's about his situation or the reminder of Eddie not being Buck’s first (😉). It's a face we've seen before, almost always when Buck’s former gfs come up in conversation.

In season 1, in the full moon episode, there is always a follow up question to Buck’s knowledge of certain things, mostly from Bobby, like how did he know a certain pose in yoga, or how did he know about the tape warm.

Even then, Buck's reply to the yoga pose question was that he dated like 100 yoga instructors, lol. Still, there was no specification of gender. But Bobby's question was always out of morbid curiosity met with amusement, Hen too.

Not Eddie, he doesn't ask, and never likes it when the subject of Buck’s exes comes up.

I find it incredibly cute and amusing to no end. 🤗🤗

Tonight's episode was ridiculous, cringe worthy and absolutely fun, I haven't laughed this much in a really long time! 😂❤️

Hen and Chimney's aversion of the bracelet, Eddie reaching out to a sweet woman in need (who I am pretty sure he suspects is into her friend), Eddie and Athena collaboration is something I didn't even know I needed!

And everyone laying off Buck but attacking Hen for not telling them had me in stitches and made me appreciate Hen even more than before!

Eddie at the Nash household talking about his abuela was so sweet and heartbreaking, I loved every second of it! 🥺❤️

And at the beach there were three chairs, I wonder if they were waiting for Buck to join them. I mean Felicia wasn't a guarantee to show up and even then she was there only for a few minutes.

Very touching talk by the way, I love how Eddie genuinely wanted to help her, and that without her being a potential LI. It made it even more beautiful.

I still don't want Buck to go through with the sperm donor thing, he deserves to have an offspring that is as beautiful and sweet and smart as him and to get to raise him as his own. I feel sad just thinking about a baby Buck being out there and Buck wouldn't get to know him, or at least won't get to raise him as a dad.

But the reveal was hilarious, no privacy in the firehouse 😂😂

I'm really hoping we're counting down to some bonus here, because we have two episodes left to the season and I fear an evil cliffhanger for the mid-season finale and I'm not sure we'll be able to survive this. - Especially since Hen's storyline wrapped up nicely, which leaves Buck. 👀👀👀

Okay watched the episode, I cannot stress enough how not okay I am watching the end after such a happy-ish episode.

I mean Hen rocked it, like we knew she would.

Henren stole my heart all over again. - And tbh it looks like Eddie’s too, I mean we always theorized, Karen and Eddie bestiesm, but seeing it was so amazing!

Magda taking over the Buckley-Han residence, was just hilarious! Maddie and Chimney hiding in the bathroom, totally cracked me up. - Good on Maddie for sending the nanny invader home.

Let’s coo over Jee-Yun for a second she totally earned it, for being the cutest toddler on the show!

Hoover, poor, misguided Hoover lol. tearing two houses in one episode, totally had me feeling sorry for the owners and kind of sad for the dog, I’m glad they found him a new home eventually.

I want to take a second to capture Marisol and her brother’s moment in the ambulance, it felt vaguely familliar to 4x14, and yet not so much, I’m thinking maybe Eddie misses his sisters and maybe a foreshadowing for a Diaz siblings invasion.

I want to see Buck and the Diaz sisters interact, they would totally drive Eddie up the wall.

Athena hiding her allergies from Bobby, because he was so happy to have Hoover was super sweet, I love Bathena so much! - I was also happy to see May, I was afraid she’d be absent now that she chose to go to college, but it seems she suffers from a full noisy house symptom, I get her.

Also Bobby immediately passing Hoover over because both his wife and his daughter have allergies, I can’t  😍😍

Christopher’s “Separation anxiety” (I made a whole post just for that), killed me! I love that kid, and I don’t think he’s wrong. I wonder if he was projecting his past experience or Eddie’s.

Buck actually does invite Eddie lol They really are together more often than not these days, and I am totally here for it!!

Let’s take a moment to admire how hot they look here, coming to help Marisol, also I am totally fond of her, best guest star yet this season.

One more thing I have to bring up is Bobby’s puppy-dog eyes, I mean, it totally worked, with combination of Hoover’s and Denny’s excited “Is that a dog?” LOL such and awesome scene!!

I would love to see Buck trying those eyes on Eddie, he will melt in seconds lol

Maddie’s trust issues are now made clear with Noah’s betrayal. - It’s too bad I really liked him and was hoping he will become part of dispatch permanently.

I wonder if it’s also a foreshadowing for trust issue on both Buckleys part, because the way JLH talked about it in the interview it sounded like both Buckleys will share that problem.

I am super curious to see what’s next and also terrified! I’m really hoping for 6x06 to have a happy ending 🙏🙏🙏

Every time I'm watching Eddie urging Josh to go talk to Carson in 5x16, I keep thinking about that first contact between him and Buck in 2x01. When Eddie considers Buck after Chimney bugs him, and realizes the only way to get Buck on his side, is meeting him head on.

I can't help but seeing the differences -

Between this: And that:

Eddie is literally reading the situation right, and urging Josh to make it easier on himself.

Eddie had to courage to go up to Buck and try to get him to be friends, to get to know each other. (Not enough to get together yet 😉 but still he made a brave move there.)

In 5x16 Eddie is reading Josh like an open book, with super cute perceptive looks, and encourages him to make the same move, to just go and talk.

But unlike Eddie, Josh is a mix of busy and terrified so he's refusing with the excuse of Sue dealing with the girls and that he has the floor.

Why do I call it excuse?

Because if he was really truly busy he would have just called Eddie, instead of going down to his office personally. 👀

I love this scene so much!

In addition it also somewhat redeeming the bad writing Josh was given in 5x11, and showing that connection, we all hoped to see between Josh and Eddie the entire season, starting to form.

I've been going back to that last scene in 5x14, and I kept obsessing about the clothing, because to me those brown colors provide a sense of comfort and familiarity.

When I was a kid, I used to go horseback riding with my dad and sisters, I loved the settings, the people, the horses. There was a sense of peace at the ranch and out on the trail.

Brown was apparently unintentionally a dominating clothing colors on those days of visiting the ranch and I never really paid attention to it, until I watched Buck and Eddie's scene, and didn't understand why the colors of the clothes they wore provided such feelings from me.

So I went and checked, and according to this site,

Brown is the color of safety, security, and material wealth. It means stability, structure, and support.

It is the color of physical comfort, simplicity, and quality. The color of physical security and the accumulation of material goods.

It promotes a sense of belonging, especially to a family and friends. It is friendly and approachable, faithful and trustworthy, dependable practically and realistically.

The psychology of color treats brown as sincere and genuine. It refers to the diligence and reliability.

These are all things we can recognize in both man, when it comes to each other. In this case specifically this is Buck, being all these things for Eddie.

Eddie is wearing the brown jacket, Buck's plaid jacket has brown woven into the other colors.

Buck is there to help Eddie, to offer comfort, someone to lean on, and give a new perspective, one that will provide clarity and a clearer direction.

It is sensual, sensitive, and warm, practical, and meaningful and represents a healthy heart.

I highlighted the sensual, as well as the healthy heart, because Eddie knows his heart, it's Christopher and Buck.

And both men have displayed sensuality with each other, if it's the way the seamlessly work and move around each other, if it's the way they give each other the heart eyes we all rave about, or even about the way they talk about one another to others.

It is materialistic because it promotes quality. Brown, together with green, is the predominant color on our planet. It offers comfort and stabilization, while the green color provides balance and youth. It isn’t carefree and spontaneous, and it does not like surprises. Therefore, it may seem dull and uninteresting for many.

Buck is stability for Eddie and Christopher, just like they are to him. Apart, they tend to spiral. And we can see that when Buck finds Eddie in 5x13, Eddie is wearing green.

Having just found out what happened to his army buddies. He wasn't prepared for it. It was too much.

Buck brought back balance. The two have an uncanny talent to balance each other out.

Some shades of a brown color show a certain degree of sophistication and elegance.

Buck is crazy smart, there is no way he didn't know what that assignment meant, he drew the heart to get a smile out of Christopher or Eddie, probably both, since he did leave the drawing on the table for Eddie to find.

It is the color of the structure, although, in no way, it encourages perfectionism, tidiness, and organization.

The psychological meaning of brown may vary, depending on the colors that mix and form brown.

Buck keeps the structured routine for Christopher, as he also helps Eddie into a routine, managing the schedule as Eddie gets much needed sleep and keeps going to therapy.

This time when he comes back from therapy, Eddie trustingly asking Buck "I'm supposed to feel better at some point, right?"

Favorable properties of brown are good quality, practical, affordable, stable, reliable, protective, sensual, sensitive, warm, reassuring, honest, sincere.

All very Buck and Eddie qualities in the last two plus seasons, and it only gets more profound with time.

This, here, is Buck being all these things for Eddie, and Eddie taking his lead and letting Buck guide him through this unfamiliar territory he found himself in.

In 5x14 we see progress, Buck's words succeed where Frank's didn't quite hit the mark.

Treadmill said to me running in place, you're stuck, you can't go back and you can't move on.

If Eddie was running outside, I'd say, ok he's either running towards something or away from something or both.

But this is static, one place, every day, only thing that changes are the shadows on his face and the spark dying out in his eyes.

The white shirt, as amazing as he looks in it, and obviously looking better than usual when a certain blonde visits, also said giving up to me, he's waving a white flag of sorts, he already looks worn down, he's accepted his fate.

He watched his teammates (read Buck) in danger on TV, helped when he realized that they may not know what to look for, and then probably watched that last minute jump Buck took after falling back on the truck bed before the truck exploded.

Then been reamed out by Josh (not my Josh, I don't know who that guy was) for saving the 118 and 147 and the family in the truck.

He didn't explain himself, simply apologized and promised it wouldn't happen again (giving up - the old Eddie would have pushed back).

But as soon as Christopher gave his blessing, Eddie was feeling like there might be a way out from that treadmill run he was stuck on.

Bobby's decision notwithstanding, Eddie was ready to give up on everything for Christopher, no matter how much he himself was slowly fading away from existence.

🥺🥺🥺

Eddie was having a minor panic attack, that Buck helped him avoid, he seemed at first struggling to breath - when Buck asks if he’s okay, it seems like it was the first time Eddie was able to take a deep breath before speaking.

After Buck says “We put it away and we Save the next one.” He hands him a new canister of Oxygen.

Buck is not just Eddie’s anchor in that moment, it’s Buck’s way of saying “I’ll breath for you, I’ll make sure you have a new canister of Oxygen, all you need to do is let me.”
