Can we just focus on the fact that Elena always tells Damon "I love you" twice when she declares love to her husband boyfriend? Twice
- Episode 4x10 "I realized something today, about you.. about us. And you can say that it's the sire bond. You know what? maybe it is. But i'm telling you, it's the most real thing that i've ever felt in my entire life.. I love you, Damon. I love you."
- Episode 4x23 "Fine, then I’m not sorry either. I’m not sorry that I met you. I’m not sorry that knowing you has made me question everything, that in death you’re the one that made me feel most alive. You’ve been a terrible person, you’ve made all the wrong choices, and of all the choices that I’ve made this will prove to be the worst one. But I am not sorry that I’m in love with you. I love you, Damon. I love you."

I think Elena needs to tell him more than once. And I say she needs to because she knows how insecure Damon is. He's never really been loved; no one ever showed him kindness, affection, or love. She knows it and she feels like somehow she has to fill the void in his heart. And I truly believe Elena is the only one who could manage to give him his confidence back. He needs to hear it more and she needs to tell him repeatedly. They complement each other. And it's really beautiful.
