My friend drove thru town with her baby and, more importantly, the baby Dracula book I had sent to her and it’s more hilarious than I could have imagined

There’s also a page where Jonathan is like “no wonder he wants to buy a new house!” When he sees the castle

In this house we bite and run

“No biting!” The theme here is that Dracula is a recalcitrant toddler. With a stuffed dragon

“That night, everyone slept very well.”

Perfection. Zero notes. I can’t believe I can send this to a baby and no one can stop me. Sorry, your baby is a new hilarious flavor of Dracula nerd now

I would like everyone to know that my friend texted me, and this book is apparently a huge hit with said baby, now a toddler, this year. They are teaching him not to bite and so every time Dracula bites someone he shakes his head and goes “no no!” Amazing. Dracula bringing the relevance to toddler fandom

I wish it was easier to talk about mobile phone addiction without sounding like a boomer

Phone addiction (specifically social media addiction) is real and it's not a joke and it is everywhere. Phone addiction literally reduces the grey matter of your brain. It's no secret young adults are more anxious and depressed than ever; more lonely than ever; more aimless than ever. Do you remember being a hugely creative kid, and feel like that spark is gone now? Can't sleep at night? Yeah, your GABA receptors are probably fucked from getting hits every 60 seconds from checking your phone. What's your daily screen time like? 6 hours? 12? These are common numbers. It's insane! It's insane and it's deliberate. Companies make more money from you when you're brain is fried from scrolling 10 hours a day through meaningless content.

But it can be reversed. Start small. If you hit this post then take 5 minutes to put your phone down in another room and do something. Do a crossword. Go for a walk. Be present! CBT is a hugely successful therapy for phone addiction and can even reverse the damage done to your brain.

I get it. I have dozens of beloved friends online, and I'm more informed now than I would ever have been without access to the Internet, but wouldn't it be nice to wonder sometimes? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go outside and not itch for your phone screen? To have that creativity and confidence back? Start small. Start now.

Jamie transfers to Arsenal or whatever and everyone spends the entire season talking about him like he's dead and they're playing football to honor his memory. They're always like "we have to work together. It's what Jamie would've wanted 🥺" meanwhile Jamie is like 5 miles away on his lunch break watching someone play with slime on TikTok

a much appreciated fresh spin on the classic "old enough to be your father" trope, from (who else but) daddy Twelve

Disability pride month PSA that schizophrenia and related disorders often starts to present in your mid 20s, so if things have been getting harder, life is less manageable, you feel less and less connected to reality, don't be afraid to get an assessment. It is not life ending, and living as someone with schizophrenia is worthwhile!!! It is a neurodivergence like any other, one that is disabling but doesn't make you less human. Getting early screenings and treatment is shown to give better outcomes for patients!!

person with schizophrenia here adding that I’ve seen so much fear surrounding this diagnosis, people saying it turns your life into a nightmare or a hellscape or removes your personality and turns you into a husk, and I want to say that’s not true and definitely isn’t true if you have good access to medical support. medicated schizophrenics are some of the coolest and most creative people I know who are able to live fulfilling lives outside of the expectations and constrictions of “mainstream society”. the way people with autism and adhd are just kind of known for doing their own thing and finding their own happiness applies to people with schizophrenia too (I also know some people who are completely indistinguishable from a neurotypical person to an outside observer, because it’s a spectrum).

its awesome theres a vampire on sesame street because you need to introduce children to the concept as early as possible

Especially given he didn't need to be a vampire specifically at all for the character to work. He just needed to be a Count, so that the pun on 'counting' was there, and they decided to use Count Dracula as inspiration. Imagine if they'd based him on Count Rochefort from The Three Musketeers and he ended up looking like this.

The vampire aspect is because, according to the original Slavic lore, vampires *count obsessively*. Throwing beads or grains on the floor is a surefired way to escape as they cannot continue to pursue you until they have counted them.

Honestly fascinating that OCD (or specifically arithmomania) is rooted in vampire lore (witches too, I believe). Another win for neurodivergency.
