SHINee ✨ CLASH Magazine (August 2023) FULL Interview → HERE
As humans we’re constantly evolving; how have the members’ identities shifted since the release of ‘Don’t Call Me’ (2021), and how is this change reflected on ‘Hard’? KEY: After ‘Don’t Call Me’, I’ve personally gained more confidence, and had the opportunity to experience many new things. With that said, I feel honoured and grateful to have received even more love. TAEMIN: I decided to give myself a break and not to be so hard on myself. I wanted to focus more on the feelings of happiness and the positive energy that people give me from recognizing my work instead of contemplating what I’m lacking and overanalyzing my shortcomings. And because I was able to take a different approach and attitude toward this album, I was able to enjoy this promotion and feel more comfortable. MINHO: I feel that we took another step forward through ‘Don’t Call Me’ and also showcased a new side to SHINee with our eighth full-length album. I do want to express that we haven’t changed after ‘Don’t Call Me’ – I’d word it that we’re continuously growing and evolving.
I watched videos taken from the latest concert – SHINee World VI – and could hear how much fans enjoyed your older tracks and watching you enjoy performing them. Recently, On MBC World’s I Live Alone, however, Key was looking back on the difficulties of performing such songs as four members, and I wondered when that feeling began to ease and the members grew to love performing their classics again. ALL: Being SHINee allows us to share our past, present, and future vision together. Although it’s not always easy, we hope that those who watch our performances never feel a gap or emptiness. The unwavering support and love from our fans have been instrumental in helping us recover and strengthen our bond with them. We’re truly grateful and fortunate, and always genuinely wish for our voices to reach the skies and the heavens when we sing.
The words ‘icons’ and ‘legends’ get thrown around too easily these days but SHINee really are both. Does it seem real for you, especially as you’re still an active, progressive group? Do you ever consider the band’s legacy and what you’d like that, ultimately, to be? KEY: I believe that we’re currently shaping SHINee ourselves. I feel that it wasn’t wrong for us to try to create and shape our own path and, actually, I’m curious about where this journey will lead us to in the end. MINHO: Rather than focusing on a specific end goal, we’ll always strive to fill our days with happiness alongside our members, staff, and our beloved fans. But I’m always grateful for the compliments we receive, and although it may feel challenging to live up to those descriptors, we’ll make it happen. TAEMIN: One of my juniors once said to me, ‘I feel like idols’ careers are extending because you continue to be active. Thank you.’ Hearing those words made me feel proud because it seems like we’re pioneering something, and when I see friends who consider me as their role model, it also helps me release all the built-up stress inside of me. Because of that, I feel a sense of motivation, I want to work even harder to inspire people, and I hope SHINee will be remembered as a group that continues to shine and remains in people’s hearts for generations to come.

MINHO • Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore
In between a radio hosting gig and appearances on variety shows and dramas, he spent four months working on his mini album. Released last December, the hip hop and R&B-inflected album, Chase, gave Minho a chance to show off his own musical style, as he finally made his debut as a solo artist. “When you record as a group, the members are each known for their different skills. Rapping was always my strongest suit so I focused more on that, but with this album, I wanted to show a different side of me to the fans.”
Minho not only raps and sings in the six-track EP, he also personally chose the songs to be featured, co-wrote the track “Runaway” with South Korean rapper Gemini, and conceptualised the direction of the album cover. He was also very much involved in the filming and directing of the music video for the first single from the album, also called “Chase”, which he is very proud about. Rather than a typical music video featuring the slick dance moves and glitzy sets associated  with SHINee, it unfolds like a movie and lets Minho showcase his acting chops. “I wanted to tell a story with this album, especially with the music video. It is something different from what the fans are used to. Watching a group is always interesting for listeners because they get to experience the different voices and performances from the members. But as a solo artist, I had to focus on entertaining them on my own.” (Full Interview → HERE)

221117 ELLE Singapore Interview ✨ Minho on his solo album
Q: What can fans expect from your first solo venture? MH: There was a lot of preparation that went into this album, so I hope you will enjoy the songs on the album from the beginning to the end. Q: What was it like making your own solo album? Have the other members heard the song? MH: Because this was my first solo album after all, I had to put in more effort as I had to do the preparations alone without my members. My members were very supportive and gave me tips in the process and that gave me a lot of strength.

ONEW’s Anan Interview ✨ © trans: pieciub
Q: What did SHINee members say about this album and the tour in Japan? ONEW: The members congratulated me a lot *laughs* “Finally, our Onew is going to have a tour”. It seems to be something that the members have always been hoping for. They said they always wanted to see me singing on stage. The members have been on the same stage every time, singing the same songs, watching over each other on stage, but they never saw me from the audience perspective. That’s why they wanted to see it. I think I understand that feeling too. I’d like the members to come and see the tour if they have time, but now it’s difficult to come in Japan due to the times… Everyone says they want to come and see it though.

(210925) Choi Yoon Kyum, Minho's father, mentioned Minho about his appearance on Dynamic Pitch and his love for soccer.
When asked about Minho’s appearance on a professional K-League program, Dynamic Pitch, coach Choi says that he was afraid Minho might have some mistakes so he was watching it nervously.
Coach Choi couldn’t catch the broadcast real-time due to his schedule so he watched the replay. He talked to Minho on the phone after he watched the broadcast and told him that he was afraid he might say something wrong but luckily there wasn’t any spoken mistakes so Coach Choi went ‘Yah, even so you won’t get cursed at.’ Minho responded saying that ‘There are so much more that I wanted to say but because there was an overrun, there were many things I didn’t get to say’.
The news says that even though Minho is a Hallyu star in his 13th year of debut, his dad still feels uneasy for his son’s broadcasts.
Coach Choi asked Minho ‘Those were written for you by the writers right?’
To which Minho responded ‘No. They decide on the outline only and the rest were my thoughts.’
Coach Choi shared that ‘Minho not only watches K-League, he watches soccer abroad a lot as well. He memorizes the annual income of all the players abroad. Things that even I don’t know, he knows more than I do.’
Coach Choi added that Minho is really close with player Lee Donggook and Park Jooho. Minho’s parents’ house is in Incheon while Lee Donggook’s house is in Incheon as well but ‘this brat doesn’t go home but goes to Lee Donggook’s home instead.’

Minho interview

Q: You won a special award from judges at the 40th Golden Filming Awards Ceremony, right?

Minho: It's such an honor,  The movie was released in 2019, and it's awarded in 2021. Especially, the director gave me this award so I think I could tell you that it was very impressive.

Q: For you acting, movies and dramas, what else are you serious about?

Minho: In the past, I used to be greedy to do well, but now I've changed my mind to show more about who I am as a person than a box office hit.

Q: Are you done with military humor?

Minho: I've done ten thousandths of it now... (laugh) I even tried to control myself as much as I could...

GQ Korea magazine - February Issue

What are you enjoying the most these days?
Minho: I'm spending a lot of time with my family because I can't go anywhere freely. We spent Christmas and New Year together. I think it's good because I haven't done this since my debut.
When is your SNS profile picture from?
Minho: When I was three or four. I thought about this all sorts of things. Should I upload a selfie or act cool (Pretend to be cool)?
Do you remember the first compliment you heard while acting?
Minho: Well, a lot of people around me say good things, but I've never considered it a compliment. Because I think I haven't made a remarkable achievement yet.
Minho: When I debuted as SHINee, I was practicing so hard that I felt like I lacked confidence. But after the first concert, I felt less anxious and worried for the first time. I realized that there are so many fans who support me. All I could think about was doing my best.
Minho: I had a lot of time to think deeply about myself. Looking back on the past time, I remembered what I liked and felt sorry for, and I found myself not knowing well because I was working as SHINee Minho. Instead of saying that something has changed, I became more clear about myself. I found out that what I thought was an advantage could be a disadvantage, as I became clear about what I could be honest with others and what I should be careful about.
Can you tell me a song that represents SHINee's identity?
Minho: The title track of the 4th regular album 'View', was SHINee's turning point. Before that, there was a strong perception that it was a group that focused on performance, but through this song, we were able to show the musical color we were aiming for. We tried the deep house genre, which was unfamiliar to K-pop at the time, and there were concerns, but we achieved what we expected. The album with the song itself has that meaning.
What do you talk about with the members?
Minho: Since we're preparing for the album, we talk a lot about the team, SHINee's direction and hings we need to show. That's why you appeared in Taemin's waiting room on the day you were discharged from the army with the military uniform.
Minho: I ran straight from Pohang to support Taemin, all the SHINee members gathered and there were staff members who have been with us for more than 10 years. I wanted to see my friends of the army, too.

TMI interview with Changmin for GQ Korea magazine ☆ 200408 (youtube link eng sub)
Question: When do you miss Minho (SHINee) the most? (Currently serving military service)
Changmin: Me and Minho both love soccer. Minho is a friend that I enjoyed watching soccer games together having drinks. Since he’s gone, I don't have friend who I can have serious conversation and enjoy soccer with. I miss him a lot nowadays.

Minho’s idealism
Always serious, gentleman and masculine, Minho thinks of "ideality theory". He carefully selected the words one by one and answered them to SHINee World J. With no blur - Minho's uniqueness can be transmitted, right?
The "ideal" that the Flaming Charisma Minho was asked about Everything was straight and hot.
--Ideal Man Minho: I can't think of any specific person, but I think the ideal image of a man is "a person who takes responsibility for what he does and works hard". The ideal actor, hm... I can't think of it right now. But I've always been watching actors since I was a child because I've watched a lot of movies on video and so on and now that I can get the job of an actor and appear in the work, I was born to want to play more roles, so I think I'm continuing to be an actor. Now, I want to be an actor who can play any role properly, rather than just wanting o do such a work. And I hope that the people who watch the work will have dreams, gain vitality, and (I hope to) be able to make a positive impact. The most difficult role to play was from the movie "Two Men". I played a character called Jinil, the leader of the bad group but I worked hard because I had to express something that I didn't have. As an actor, it's interesting tat you can discover new aspects that you didn't even notice and withdraw as you gain experience in creating characters while talking to the director, not limited the work.
--Ideal Holiday Minho: If I take a day off I want to sleep as much as I want without waking up with the alarm and stay home all the time, lingering on my bed or couch, unleash my body and tension feelings and relax. In such a case, I don't go outside, so I cook food myself. Ramen that can be made quickly if I'm very hungry. If I have a little more spare time, I look at what I have in the house, think about it and make something. I have recently made sprouts soup. I made it while checking the recipe properly, not just learning from someone. I would like to meet my friends on the day off but if it's only one day, I would give priority to myself.
--Ideal Travel Minho: If I get a longer break, I want to travel travel to places I haven't been to yet and experience something new. More specifically, I think I wan to go to Cuba. I've had the opportunity to visit various countries and places and the whole world but I'm interested in Cuba because I've never been there. What's delicious in Cuba? (laughs) If I'm traveling, it's good when I'm with friends, instead of alone. When traveling, it's up to others to make a detailed plan, but I think I'm the type that decides by pulling everything ahead optimistically. Otherwise, I will eventually run, feeling like I can't move on. I make a solide schedule for the day and go around sightseeing spots energetically, spend the next day slowly without overloading, I decide where to go based on my mood. It's good to decide like that. I want to enjoy both the atmosphere, whether it moves exactly as planned or the mood to relax. It works exactly as planned, I want to enjoy the atmosphere while spending the time with a relaxing mood.
--Ideal Food Minho: Speaking of ideal, scorched rice is my favorite. I pour hot water on the scorched rice and eat it as porridge. Don't people eat this in Japan? It's very popular in Korea. It's an off-season dish that was made with cooked rice, but now the scorched rice is conveniently sold off-season. So it's really delicious to buy it yourself, add water, boil it and eat it salty or with kimchi. Does it look like Ochazuke* in Japan? If you have salt and kimchi, it will smell good and the texture will be better! When I cook food alone, doesn't it feel troublesome sometimes? That's why I often lake this scorched rice, which is easier to make. I can't always eat ramen (laughs).(*Ochazuke is a Japanese dish made by just pouring tea or hot water over cooked rice.)
--Ideal Friend Minho: Ideally, I think we should trust each other and share both sad and fun things. For example, I will always be there when they are in pain or sadness, listen to their stories, go out to eat, and have fun and so on... It's alright at this time, I think a friend you can trust will just do that naturally. But I don't talk to my friends very much even if I have trouble and I often solve it myself. On the other hand, there ate many people who I listen to, so in such cases, I try to look at things as objectively as possible and give opinions. Sometimes I call my friends and we get together somewhere and talk. I don't tell them when I'm in trouble but I'll tell my friends if I'm happy. For example, when I want to share about a rewarding job, when I want to talk about really trivial events ad what they ate, when I want to send photos, these kind of things often happen. The secret to a long lasting friendship is alcohol (laughs). Friends around me have a similar flow when drinking, how much they can drink and the pace. You don't have to worry about that aspect, it's easy to talk about anything because I'm relaxed.
--Ideal Member Minho: I've been with SHINee members for a long time so we really know each other. So we take care with consideration about things to other member doesn't like, we are active on the things we think we like, and something I think it's good is that we say everything we think. It feels embarrassing to praise them face to face when you have a long relationship, but I want to be honest (with them). I check on many of the other member's actives. When monitoring something or when I'm seeing their work, I speak a lot, like: "Isn't this better if done like this?" Or "Maybe you should fix this part". I don't say "You can't do that" directly (laughs). But the other members don't watch my actives very much (laughs). Well, if they watch it occasionally, it will talk to them properly.
--Ideal SHINee Minho: I feel happy when the fans and staffs say, "You're really working hard on the stage". We're always working hard with our strength on the stage, so I'm glad when they say such a thing. I think SHINee is a team that is strong in performance so I want to show new performances in the future. And of course, I want to make sure that the fans get what they want. That is a dream and an idealization. I had a really nice time at the fan meeting last year and I was really impressed. So, if possible, I would like to make such an opportunity again and spend time with Japanese fans.
