Such a beautiful Nigerian black man inside and out.
Graceland → Mike Warren’s journey through drug addiction
What are you doing? This isn’t you. This isn’t what you want. It hurt, Charlie. It hurt so bad. It was like… It was like my insides were ripping out. And I just… I needed to get back to work. I needed to stay upright, and so… I kept taking the meds. And I don’t know what happened or when, but it was like a switch flipped. [snaps fingers] Yeah. It’s like I’ve been living inside somebody else’s body. I… Every pill I take I think is going to be the last one, but it’s just the last one and the last one and the last one…
Someone needs to just give Mike Warren a hug for fuck’s sake.
“Ooh that man is on my list And ooh that man I wanna kiss My only sin is I can’t win Ooh I wanna love that man”

Things that Aaron did in Assassins that fans who missed it might want to know
Only because I’ve missed out so many times, and I know how it feels to not know the deets 😃
- He dances quite a bit, and when he does, he fully commits (think Life is Screwy from Saved commits) - When he is first introduced in the Ballad of Booth he does a little fancy dance and twirls his cane, passing it over his back and catching it again. Booth is in this production every bit the fancy man - When he comes on at the start all the other characters quieten down and he walks in slowly framed by bright light. A girl beside me in the audience gasped when he came came into view 😜 They very much use his heart thob status to give the character and air of importance - They quickly act out his story; his cane gets taken away for a crutch & he sings a beautiful/disturbing bit of song (including a couple of great belted notes) - Throughout the show he sits/stands in the the aisles of the audience and reacts to what’s going on onstage. Little bit distracting 😝 - One character has a whole monologue about how much work goes into making a cola bottle. Later on when he’s working up to shooting the president, Booth is walking around sipping cola & coyly says to him ‘wanna sip?’. Very Tveit. - One of the characters has a bit about Leonard Bernstein (wrote music for west side story) and at the end he starts singing ‘I want to be in America…’. Then the cast do the dance from West Side Story for a moment, and of course Aaron dances like 150%. I was like, damn! Lots of jumping and fancy arms. It was funny too because we were all so close to the stage so every move was super big. Naw. - He was smaller than I expected. But obviously not ‘small’. Just neat & compact & young - So young! Even with his beard. It’s so hard to believe he’s 31, he sounded & looked like a 23 year old - His pants were tight y’all. I’m not gonna lie, he took off his little jacket (I don’t know why I called it little? He just looked so cute like a little doll lol), he turned around & I was like ‘aaaaaaaaaaand there’s the booty’. It’s a wonder he wasn’t self conscious! Like, honestly those pants were so obviously tailored to accentuate certain… assets. Not complaining though 😳 - His hair was on point. I couldn’t help chuckle, he looked so perfectly made up, such a peacock lol - Which was perfect for the role too, and extra funny when he acknowledged this. As we know, at the end after red confetti poors from the ceiling (after JFK’s death), Booth steps forward & swishes his head lavishly to get the confetti off. I remember the audience laughing at this particularly because he was making fun of his dandy-ness - He has a big two-hander scene with Lee Harvey Oswald at the end where he gets very worked up & emotional trying to convince him to kill JFK. He cries at points & loses his cool and screams at others (all of the characters scream in the show, it’s a very emotional show). When he screams though it comes across more as a petulant child, which again is good for the character, who in this production is vain & naive - He cries at several parts during the show, I could see tear streaks on his cheeks in some of his background scenes even - There is a big cheesy song & dance number at the end which I guess is what Aaron referred to as ‘full Broadway’. It’s very cute, there’s clicking and kicks and shimmying (my fav) - Then at the very end they turn their guns on the audience and hold the position as the lights go down. I guess their direction was to be about to shoot & kill someone because all the characters suddenly became sinister & intense again. And of course Aaron was staring daggers at someone (150% again), pointing his gun at them and shuddering with rage. I was like ‘fade the lights already he’ll have an aneurysm!’ lol 😂 - You can see he’s very committed to the performance (re. what he said in an interview about giving it his all every time). He’s a very intense stage actor, and very physical, even with his dialogue. I could just see that he had worked, and was working really hard in the role. It was very humbling. Because this was a very complicated, psychologically heavy show, and more like a play with songs than a traditional musical. I just felt it was really brave of Aaron to take this on, considering most of his stage work has been in big traditional musicals & not so much stage acting or plays. He handled it really well, and whatever he might have lacked in training or experience he made up for with his very admirable commitment, practice & attitude. Bit proud.
