It's been ten days and the Empty still can't sleep because Cas is singing Meg love songs in Enochian.
My One Big SPN LGBTQIPA+ Headcanon:
One day, Castiel makes an announcement.
Meg: You're what?
Cas: Demisexual. I saw the word in a pamphlet concerning human sexuality.
Meg: (trying not to laugh) And what exactly do you think it means?
Cas: Based on the word structure, I assume it means one who is sexually attracted to demons. And since I... have those feelings toward you, I consider it an apt description.
Meg: (really laughing now) That's not what that word means, Clarence. It means someone who only wants to fuck people they already like. Like, they're attracted to someone once they see who they really are.
Cas: It does? Oh. (He looks down, then slowly places his hand on top of Meg's.) Then, I believe it still applies.
These are some thoughts I’ve had relating to the finale. This will include my thoughts on Sam & Dean, multishipping, and a possible found-family coda after the end. These are all personal; I don’t speak for anyone else! If you ship something else that’s fine!
Do I ship Sam and Dean? Yes and no. As has been theorized since season 5, to me they’re soulmates. That means they’re more than brothers, more than best friends, more than partners. They are soulmates. (I read a cute fic equating it to the Star Trek term “T'hy'la” which is a Vulcan word meaning friend, brother, or lover, which seems to fit.) To me, their bond is the most important thing for them. It doesn’t have to be sexual (I’m panace and usually just glance through/skim most smut scenes regardless of pairing). It doesn’t necessarily have to be romantic (I’m fine either way as long as it’s consensual between them). As long as their bond is the strongest, I’m fine either way. So, I ship their bond in any way.
It’s also important to note, even though they’re soulmates, they still had to make choices pointing to each other in our canon universe. We’ve seen alternate universes in the show; sometimes they’re not close (like in the Djinn dream 2x20), sometimes they become close (Wesson & Smith 4x17). So their bond means more to me in the main universe, as it’s been shown that it doesn’t always happen that way.
As I mentioned, as long as their bond is the strongest thing (platonic/romantic/whatever), I’m fine with other pairings. I’m a multishipper by heart; I just want my fave characters to be loved. Dean and Cassie? Great; first woman he told about their secret. Dean and Lisa? Great; he had a nice time with her and Ben. Dean and other people? Great. Dean and Benny? Amazing! This one is my soft spot; Benny was so gone on Dean. Sam and Jess? Great; first Sam ship we see. Sam and Castiel? After they both get to better terms with each other it’s p sweet. Sam and others? Great. Castiel and Meg? Amazing! So adorable; both were what each other needed and were so soft, the whole unicorn and Clarence.
(I’m a be real honest, I have this thing against possible ‘abuse’ of authority/possible consent issues in any way (so I don’t read sex worker aus or a/b/o aus unless they’re subversive/take the gray consent into account). Also, I was raised culturally religious, though I’ve been distant for a long time. These two things impact my feelings on d*stiel. I see Castiel as Dean’s guardian angel. I love them as friends and brothers! However, I cannot get into shipping them. But I do ship sastiel (sweet) and megstiel (adorable!).)
The finale (found family). I love that it focused on Sam and Dean. I’m fine either way that Sam had a life after Dean (the wife and kid), since it also showed that they never forgot each other. A way to incorporate others, would be if, after Sam arrives, he gets into Baby with Dean again. They drive up the road and meet with the others. We could see Bobby (and his friends/partners), Castiel and Meg, Jack could visit with Miracle the dog. Dean could be just with Sam (or my fave Benny!, or with someone else). Prior to this episode, I would’ve wanted Sam with Dean (in whatever way) and/or Jess. But since he got married, he could introduce his wife to the rest of them, and that could be when we finally get a closer view of her — we meet her as team free will (and Mary and John) meet her; at the same time because it goes along with the whole ‘fandom as family’ and ‘found family’ team free will had.
Common arguments against Megstiel (And why they don’t hold water).
Hello, Tumblr! It is I, Jo, bringing you once more a meta-analysis of one of the aspects of the Hell that is Supernatural and its fandom and particularly the Circle of Hell that is shipping one of its minor ships. Especially one that has so much canon fodder (see what I did there?) as Megstiel does. I have seen so many extensive (like… you would not believe how many of them, holy shit, they’re everywhere) meta-analysis, essays, theories, hastily put together thoughts, you name it, that people write stating why their ship is/should be/will be canon.
And if someone dares say “Well… I just don’t see it”, they’re likely going to be bombarded by a mountain of evidence of why they’re wrong. Admittedly, some of this evidence is well-thought out and compelling and some is… not… that. But I’m not writing this to argue against that mountain of evidence because I understand those analysis come from a place of love for those characters (and because I would be here all day). I’m doing it because whenever someone brings up Megstiel in these things, it’s usually to belittle it, disregard it or flat out deny its existence. And I, as a Megstiel shipper, have a thing or two to say about that.
Now, let’s make something entirely clear: I’m not here to convince you to stop shipping your ship and start shipping mine. I’m not here to attack you personally. You’re not a horrible person for wanting something different to be canon than I do. I don’t mean to start a shipping war. Full disclaimer, I am a snarky person and sometimes this topic fills me with rage, which is why this essay will be peer-reviewed. Meaning, I will have other Megstiel shippers who are a tad nicer or more jaded than me read it and give me notes before I post it to tone down my salt in the interest of keeping things civil. And because if I’m excessively mean, Senpai won’t hang out with me.
If you have another argument besides the ones I bring up here or if you’re not convinced by my counterarguments, tell me. I will be happy to have a conversation. Unless that conversation starts with you stating I murdered your puppy and destroyed your crops, in which case, I’m not interested in getting to know you and your mom is probably disappointed in you. If you still feel compelled to send me insults because I like a different ship, it will result in you being a) blocked, b) referred to the present essay or c) mocked. Depends on what mood you catch me in.
Okay, so now that we’ve established that, let me tell you why your arguments against Megstiel don’t convince me.
They’re unhappy because the rabbit’s fake.
They can only think in ovals.
Conversations between Meg and Cas. I love that she takes so seriously his worry about unhappy dogs.
You know that really sexy kiss moment. Pizza Man moment. Actually I was having a lot of trouble. I didn’t even know why but I was having trouble doing the turn and he picked me up and he kind of rotated me which looks awesome but it was actually very practical. It was just a very cool friend thing to do uh, cause it made my life so much easier. To me that’s like the perfect articulation of him and the whole Supernatural group. We got each other’s backs.” - Rachel Miner
Remember me, Clarence?
but do you guys realize that meg and cas didn’t just see each other’s vessels
they saw each other’s souls and they still fell in love
meg saw a bright light while cas saw the black smoke of hers but neither of them cared
spn ladies meme | favorite kisses • meg and cas in “caged heat”
i think a lot about the fact that castiel always saw meg’s true face
the saints can’t help me now, the ropes have been unbound;
The fact Meg called Cas ‘Clarence’ makes me so emotional because Clarence was the angel who saved George Bailey’s life. He was George’s guardian angel. He accepted George for who is was, showed him his worth and ultimately saved him from himself.
Meg called Cas ‘Clarence’ because she saw him as her friend, her saviour and her guardian angel *sobs*
