I want someone to call my name like it’s the most beautiful sound they have ever heard. I want them to say it slowly, drag it out as if they never want to hear it end. I want someone to have so much love for me that they speak my name as if it were a rare, fragile artifact that they were terrified of breaking. I want my name to dance slowly off of their tongue as the morning sun wakes them. I want someone to say my name and mean it.

You know what would be great right now? Laying in bed in a hotel room in a country that I’ve never been to. The sun shines through the open door that leads to the balcony, and the wind is commanding the curtains to dance slowly to the melody of the noise from the street below us. On my chest rests my lover’s head, and their eyes are fighting to stay open. They are caught between listening to me read or succumbing to sleep. I’m holding a book in my right hand, and with the other I’m running my fingers through their hair, giving them an unspoken permission to give in to their exhaustion. Eventually, they do, and the noises of the people sauntering in the street are muffled by their heavy breathing. Everything is quiet, peaceful, and it feels like a dream.

“I spend too much time thinking about things that aren’t now, things that have not yet been. I have become a master in the art of cultivating false realities in my mind in an effort to distract me from the now. The problem is that my heart is ready to give all that it has in a single beat. I am human, and I so desire to be loved, and give love, with every fiber of my being. I romanticize about fictional occurrences so much that I am devastated when I am snapped back into reality. The reality here is that, as much as I wish I didn’t, I still feel lonely and unhappy. I am afraid of love, but yet, I desire it every day.”
