I find Benny’s relationship with his Maker so sinister, because it’s written out to be a family dynamic like most nests are, but there’s just something underneath it all that just makes my skin crawl.
Benny is portrayed as a wayward son, the rebellious man who abandoned his family, almost like a Dean parallel; yet at the same time he’s almost simultaneously treated as a weird pseudo-wife figure.
It also sounds to me, during certain scenes when Benny describes his relationship with his Maker, as though he knows what it’s like to receive preferential treatment because of…whatever. He climbed the ranks, and he wasn’t alone at the top, but it’s clear he was the favorite.
And then Benny is killed when he dare find someone else to occupy his time with, romantically that is. It reads like Benny cheated on his abusive husband with another woman.
