eddie telling chris he loves him until chris hears him. making absolutely certain that chris knows eddie wants him back and will welcome him back with open arms, will go get him immediately, whenever chris is ready. things that happen to you at thirteen get so distorted with time, and this could have eventually become a you didn't want me or you gave up on me - but eddie made sure that if there is one thing chris remembers vividly, it'll be how much his father loves him and wants him and would never willingly give him up unless it was what chris himself wanted.
